You're As Nice As Peanut Butter

Saturday, January 24, I got out for my morning walk at the park.
It was a misty mountain morning, which was appropriate because I was listening to the soundtrack to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as I walked.

January 24 was National Compliment Day, the anniversary of when the California Gold Rush began, and National Peanut Butter Day
We had fun complimenting each other. "You're as good as gold," was an obvious one. Jeremy started getting creative with peanut butter brands. Here are some of the ones we came up with (paraphrasing): You're so helpful. I know you'll be there in a Jif.
This tastes so good, it makes me want to Skip-py.
When I'm around you, I feel like I could fly like Peter Pan.
I got a little silly. "You're as great as Winco Brand Peanut Butter."
Creativity. Isn't it great?

Even More Celebrating in January

January 19 was Whisper "I Love You" Day. I whispered it. I tried whispering while texting but it didn't translate over very well. I had to explain to Jeremy that what I was writing was whispered.
It was also National Popcorn Day but we were so busy that we celebrated National Popcorn Day Observed. Jeremy tried some new flavors of popcorn seasoning (at the same time but in different bowls). Thank you, Jeremy.

January 20 was Penguin Awareness Day. Lucky created a slide show of penguins to the music, "Ride of the Valkyries," and called it "Ride of the Penguins."
The kids watched Penguins: Spy in the Huddle that day. It's become tradition when we can manage it. We also ate fish sticks which is also tradition because penguins eat fish.

January 21 was National Hugging Day. You better believe there was hugging. It was also Granola Bar Day and people did indeed eat granola bars.

January 22 was National Hot Sauce Day. I made baked mac 'n' cheese that had sauce in it and added cooked ground beef that needed to be used. #shelfcooking
We also took our last baguette and Jeremy made garlic bread out of it.
That evening for FHE treat, we had cake batter blondies for Blonde Brownie Day but we didn't have white chocolate chips and I wasn't going to go to the store for them so I used regular chocolate chips and Jr. called them "brunettes." Heh Heh.

January 23 was National Pie Day. We celebrated that one observed because I was too tired at the end of the night but when we did celebrate it observed, we had vanilla pudding pie with pumpkin pie ice cream on it like we did for Thanksgiving. I forgot to take a picture but I put a picture of our Thanksgiving pie and ice cream on my blog January 2 of this year.

January 24 was National Compliment Day. Lucky and I gave each other compliments. It was also National Peanut Butter Day. Jet had peanut butter on a tortilla. He loves that.

Pie Day (Observed)

Pie Day was on January 23. Since we were too busy eating Chinese food that day (yumm), we celebrated Pie Day (Observed) the next day.
I made Chicken Pot Pie but in actual pie form with an actual pie crust- the same crust I use for my apple pies. Yumm.
The recipe for the pie came from budgetbytes.com and I do want to make it again. It wasn't as craveworthy as some foods but I did like it.

The 24th was National Compliment Day and National Peanut Butter Day. People ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because peanut butter and jelly compliment each other.
People in the family also complimented each other. Jeremy and I compliment each other in a lot of ways.

Better Than Gold

Family Home Evening on January 24.
It was the anniversary of the beginning of the California Gold Rush. At dinner we told the kids a little bit about what the California Gold Rush was and made comments about how members of our family were as good as gold or better than gold. That fit right along with National Compliment Day
For our FHE activity and treat, we started watching The Apple Dumpling Gang and ate peanut butter cookies that Jr. made for National Peanut Butter Day.
These cookies from The Food Nanny are our go-to cookie when we need or want cookies for something. We make them so often.
By the way, January 24 was also International Day of Education. I think we celebrated that with teaching the kids what we did about the California Gold Rush, don't you?

March Comes In Like a Lion

Mmm, not so much. Beautiful first day of March we had.
A few days later it did rain, but by the evening, it was nice again.
morning and afternoon pictures

The first day of March brought us Share a Smile Day. We smiled. It brought us Peanut Butter Lover's Day. People ate peanut butter sandwiches. It also brought us National Pig Day. I decided to create another version of my "Pig Island" picture from 2015. I went around singing the song as well.

The second day of March brought us Dr. Seuss' birthday. "Do you like green eggs and ham?"

The third day of March brought us I Want You to Be Happy Day. Double Chocolate Chunk Muffins make us happy. It brought us National Cold Cuts Day. People ate ham sandwiches. It also brought us National Soup It Forward Day. I took that opportunity to try a new soup recipe, Easy Chicken Parmesan Soup, from sixsistersstuff.com and it was so yummy. Jeremy, Nichole, Jet, and I all loved it.

The fourth day of March brought us National Sons Day. I let the boys pick what we'd have for dinner so we had pepperoni pizza, BBQ chicken pizza, and Pineapple Fanta. It brought us Grammar Day. I corrected people's grammar from time to time. It also brought us National Dance the Waltz Day and National Marching Music Day. Like last year, Jet and I danced the waltz to "Stars and Stripes Forever" in 3/4 time.

The next day we had enough ingredients to make more pepperoni and BBQ chicken pizzas so the kids made more pizzas. Thanks, kids.

National Peanut Butter Day 2021

Sunday, January 24, was National Peanut Butter Day. So what did I suggest every time someone said they were hungry? Something with peanut butter. People ate tortillas with peanut butter, peanut butter sandwiches, etc. The kids asked for Chuckles but I never got around to making that (I forgot). Jr. did make peanut butter cookies, though. Thanks, Jr.

P.S. We had Chuckles for After School Snack the next day.

Eliza Doolittle Day 2020

The 20th of May was Eliza Doolittle Day. I celebrated with "lots of chocolate for me to eat" after the kids went to bed. Bwah ha ha ha.
I tried out "The One" Chocolate Mug Cake recipe from Budget Bites. Mmmm, chocolate and peanut butter... and all for me!

Croissant Pancakes

For National Croissant Day on January 30, Jr. Jr. (with some help from his sister) made us chocolate chip pancakes in the shape of croissants/crescents.
I put peanut butter on mine.

I didn't mention but the day before Lucky came home with his 100 days hat. It says, "I'm 100 days brighter." Just like his siblings before him around this time of year, his class celebrated the 100th day of school. He loves getting those kinds of hats at school and showing them off to us.
And that is his "smile for the camera" smile. Even his school picture has that smile. Awesome kid. Reminds me of both Jr. and Jr. Jr. and their "camera" looks in the past.

Don't Forget the Peanut Butter

January 24 was National Peanut Butter Day. For dinner I made pancakes upon which we could put peanut butter and raspberry syrup. I may have been the only one who actually used peanut butter. Sigh.
Earlier in the day, I finally made a smoothie because I finally found the time. It's been a while but I really wanted one. I got the blender out and started putting in ingredients. I got the frozen berries in there. I got the bananas in there. I got yogurt and milk in there. I blended it all up and tasted it but I couldn't figure out why it didn't taste how I wanted it to taste. I explained it to Jeremy and he asked, "Don't you usually put a little peanut butter in there?" Oh ho ho. On Peanut Butter Day, too. Silly me. I put the peanut butter in and all was well.

Catch of the Day

Jeremy:  I guess Nichole decided to make herself a peanut butter sandwich.

General Conference Weekend

Conference nachos and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, April 2.
Yeah, we know how to celebrate.
That and going to an open house for one of our college friends who is getting married.  One of the nicest people in the world.  So happy for her.

Pigs in a Blanket Day

March 1st is National Pig Day.  Since we ate pigs in a blanket and Jr. bundled up in a blanket while watching a movie and called himself a pig in a blanket, Jr. Jr. kept calling today Pigs in a Blanket Day.  He's cute.

March 1st is also Share a Smile Day.

And it's Peanut Butter Lovers Day.  The kids had tortillas with peanut butter rolled up on them.

Heh Heh Heh.  Pig Day.

Snowman Sandwich

Jr.:  This is the way to eat a snowman sandwich.

I learned something new.  A snowman sandwich is any kind of sandwich (in this case, peanut butter and jelly for Jr. and peanut butter for Jr. Jr.) with raisins stuck onto the outside of it to make a face.

Jr. Jr.:  This is the way to eat a snowman sandwich.

Jr.:  I made a snowman plate.

Jr. Jr.:  I made a snowman table.

Peanut Butter is So Great!

January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day.  January 24 is also National Compliment Day.  We were giving each other lots of compliments today.  And peanut butter is so easy to use any day.  We had peanut butter on tortillas.  The kids had apples with peanut butter for after school snack.  We also had snacks of peanut butter on spoons.  For dinner, we had pancakes and several of us had peanut butter on our pancakes.  I'll compliment peanut butter by saying "Peanut butter is so great!"
We watched the movie, Matilda, and talked about how some of the characters didn't compliment others much, but Miss Honey did compliment others quite a bit.

And since I didn't get any pictures of peanut butter or complimenting, I'll tell you about the handmade gifts I did for Christmas this year.  Rice warmers.

Nichole and Jr. asked me to make rice warmers for them after I did for a friend a while back.  It only took me about 2 1/2 years to finally getting around to making them.  They were happy to get them for Christmas and I made one for Jr. Jr. and one for Jeremy as well.  The kids' all were shaped like the one I made for the friend, but Jeremy's was long with all four segments stretched out.

It's so he can wrap it around his neck or shoulders on cold mornings.  He was happy with it, too.
I never got pictures of the kids' rice warmers laid out on a flat surface, so I got pictures of them being used they way they are used.  Here you go:

At Least I'm Not in the Hospital

Today, September 13, is Positive Thinking Day.  I have a cold.  That's not so great, but on the bright side, it's not that bad, which is a good thing since it's Friday the 13th (you never know).  Also thinking positively, chocolate is supposed to be good for a cough or something that that comes with a cold.  And since September 13 is also International Chocolate Day, I drank some hot chocolate.  And since September 13 is also National Peanut Day, I put some peanut butter in my hot chocolate.
Hey, there's something to this Positive Thinking Day.  After school the kids were helpful in getting snacks for themselves since I didn't feel up to it.  Nichole wanted something that would fit with today's holidays so she got herself a bag of chocolate chips and peanuts.
She helped get her brothers some chocolate chips, too.  She's awesome.  All my children are awesome.  That's a very positive thing.
One other way we celebrated was I read Jr. Jr. a book about counting to 100 using Reese's Pieces.  That also fits in with chocolate and peanuts.  Jr. read the book earlier.
So I may have a cold but I can still celebrate and do some positive thinking.

Peanut Butter and Jelly! Peanut Butter and Jelly!

April 2 is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day.  Thanks to my friend, Kathryn, for commenting and telling me about this one last year on April 2.
It's also International Children's Book Day, but the kids had friends over from morning until evening so they played Wii most of the day.  C'mon, it's Spring Break.  And no, they don't always play Wii the whole time they have friends over.

Wait, wait.  I just remembered.  They read a bunch of Winnie the Pooh books this morning.  And they'll read more books at bedtime.  My children are definitely readers.

Also there was a point during the day when I found Jeremy at the computer watching a dancing banana singing about peanut butter and jelly (the banana was singing, not Jeremy).
The song the banana was singing got stuck in the kids' heads, but luckily it's been long enough now they don't remember it.  Phew.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

I've been wanting to try a cookie recipe that my sister-in-law-in-law shared on her blog, two hands, but we ran out of peanut butter and when we got more we ran out of chocolate chips and when we got more we ran out of peanut butter again. Etc. etc. etc. Well, last night Jeremy picked up a new container of peanut butter, so while he and Nichole went on a field trip to the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point today, Jr. and I had a chance to make these Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. Yumm yumm.

Rae let me know they take about 10-15 minutes in the oven (depending on the oven). And they are easy and great to do with kids.
I love bonding time with my son.
