Catching Up March 2025 part 1

March 1 was National Pig Day. We had our traditional "Pig Island" dinner. Pigs in a blanket with peaches and blue koolaid. It's based on the Sandra Boynton song, "Pig Island." "They play on the beaches the colors of peaches There by the turquoise sea, oh my, Under a blue blue sky."

March 2 was Dr. Seuss' birthday, also known as Read Across America Day. Let me tell you about the cuteness that is my youngest child with Dr. Seuss. Jet wanted to read "Toast and Ham" one day. Most of us know it as Green Eggs and Ham. Anyway, Jet made up his own version and "read it" to me a few times. It was a little different each time. Some here and theres and sharing with the Fox but her is the gist of it:
Hey, that guy stole my paper. Do you like toast and ham? I don't like toast and ham. Do you like it in the house? I don't like it in the house. Do you like it in the car? I don't like it in the car. Do you like it in the dark? I don't like it in the dark. Do you like it in the water? I don't like it in the water. One second. I want toast and ham. Give me it. You want it? Yeah. I want it. I like toast and ham. I like it in the house. Do you like it? I do like it. Thank you very much. The End.
On Dr. Seuss' Birthday, Jet also hopped on Pop.

March 3 was National Cold Cuts Day and Soup It Forward Day. Soup and Sandwiches to celebrate.
I'll do some more catching up later.

March Comes In Like a... Pig

March 1 was gentle so it didn't come in like a lion but March 2 we got hail so... draw your own conclusions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Great Airplane Catastrophe

(Part 1 of Lucky's Conclusion)

People screamed from the rooftops as they jumped on the airplanes with a thud, hail scattering around them. They crawled all around the airplanes attacking the windows, throwing rocks at the windows and biting the airplanes' wings. "Those things' teeth must be really strong," said a reporter before getting hit on the head with a chunk of hail. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, I get it. Hail. Acting like pigs. Drawing his own conclusions. Thanks, Lucky. I'm interested in reading Part 2.

Now let's go back to what I was originally going to talk about. March 1 was National Pig Day. I planned a "Pig Island" dinner like we had before. We also listened to Scott Bakula singing the Sandra Boynton/Michael Ford song.

We also watched the Doctor Who episode, "Aliens of London." That episode has a pig in it.

March 1 was also Share a Smile Day. We did.

March 2 was Read Across America Day. There was definitely reading going on around us. It was Dr. Seuss' Birthday so we of course ate green eggs and ham.

March Comes In Like a Lion

Mmm, not so much. Beautiful first day of March we had.
A few days later it did rain, but by the evening, it was nice again.
morning and afternoon pictures

The first day of March brought us Share a Smile Day. We smiled. It brought us Peanut Butter Lover's Day. People ate peanut butter sandwiches. It also brought us National Pig Day. I decided to create another version of my "Pig Island" picture from 2015. I went around singing the song as well.

The second day of March brought us Dr. Seuss' birthday. "Do you like green eggs and ham?"

The third day of March brought us I Want You to Be Happy Day. Double Chocolate Chunk Muffins make us happy. It brought us National Cold Cuts Day. People ate ham sandwiches. It also brought us National Soup It Forward Day. I took that opportunity to try a new soup recipe, Easy Chicken Parmesan Soup, from sixsistersstuff.com and it was so yummy. Jeremy, Nichole, Jet, and I all loved it.

The fourth day of March brought us National Sons Day. I let the boys pick what we'd have for dinner so we had pepperoni pizza, BBQ chicken pizza, and Pineapple Fanta. It brought us Grammar Day. I corrected people's grammar from time to time. It also brought us National Dance the Waltz Day and National Marching Music Day. Like last year, Jet and I danced the waltz to "Stars and Stripes Forever" in 3/4 time.

The next day we had enough ingredients to make more pepperoni and BBQ chicken pizzas so the kids made more pizzas. Thanks, kids.

Pig Island

Sandra Boynton is an author and illustrator who has done some really cute board books for children.  Years and years ago, my mom got us a book and CD of songs by Sandra Boynton and Michael Ford.  It's called "Philadelphia Chickens."  One of the songs is "Pig Island" and on the CD it is sung by Scott Bakula.
The chorus to "Pig Island" goes like this:
"Pig Island! Pig Island! What a beautiful place to be.  They play on the beaches the color of peaches there by the turquoise sea, oh my, under a blue, blue sky."
Since March 1 is National Pig Day, I made my own culinary interpretation of the scene described in the chorus.
Cute, huh?
Jeremy pointed out that they are "pigs in a beach blanket."
Also cute.

On a related note, February 28 is National Tooth Fairy Day.  So to celebrate both holidays, last night Jeremy and I watched the movie, "Hogfather," based on the Terry Pratchett book.  It has tooth fairies in it and it takes place the night before Hogswatch.  We watched it the night before Pig Day.
Yeah, it's not just the kids that are creative in our family.
