National Smile Day

May 31 was National Smile Day.
Do you know what made me smile that day?
Wishing a Happy 1st Anniversary to my brother and his wife and seeing that they are loving being married to each other.
Do you know what also made me smile that day?
Seeing these two watering the plants together.
So sweet to see and I love being married to my husband.

First Week of March

March 1 was Share a Smile Day. Jeremy and the kids played and smiled together.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday (Read Across America Day) was on March 2. We read books of course.
And we ate green eggs and ham. This time it was in the form of fried rice. I do like to find creative ways to celebrate.

March 3 was Soup It Forward Day and National Cold Cuts Day so we had Ogre Stew (from The Fablehaven Cookbook) and ham sandwiches.

March 4 was Grammar Day. There was some correcting of grammar that day, maybe some editing of someone's writing? If I don't have pictures or don't write it down, I don't always remember.

March 5 was National Cheese Doodle Day. Jeremy suggested people draw pictures of cheese. I did.

Oreo Cookie Day (Birthday of the Oreo Cookie) was March 6. Jeremy got creative. We actually sang Happy Birthday.

We celebrated National Cereal Day on March 7 with cheese and pickle sandwiches again. It's tradition.

Smile!

Can you tell he's related to his brothers?
See my blog post, "Look Normal," about Jr. posted November 9, 2010 and my blog post, "Smile For the Camera," about Jr. Jr. posted January 15, 2015.
I was trying to get a picture of Jet in front of Stout Tree, the largest tree in Stout Memorial Grove in the Redwoods. I wanted him to "Smile." This is what I got.
Just like his brothers.

The Day They Came Home

I had to get up early in the morning to pick up the boys from FSY the day they finished. We came home by way of the windmills in Spanish Fork. It was Global Wind Day and National Electricity Day, June 15. While I was gone, Lucky and Daddy took some bonding time together and went rock hounding on Nature Photography Day. They took choco rocks with them. They did not get the obsidian and chocolate mixed up.
I learned there are different kinds of obsidian. Besides regular they also found mahogany, and snowflake.

When we all got back, Jeremy and I had our own bonding time celebrating National Megalodon Day by watching Meg 2: The Trench
It was also Smile Power Day. You can't tell me these smiles don't have power.

National Utah Day 2024

So, Jr. was all the way in Oregon but Jr. Jr. was camping in Utah when National Utah Day happened on May 31. It was also National Smile Day so we smiled at each other.
As usual we decided to make foods known for being "Utah" foods.
Funeral potatoes, lime green jello with carrot shavings, and... pastrami burgers?
Apparently pastrami burgers are a Utah thing? Never heard of that until we were getting ready for this holiday. We did put fry sauce on the burgers, though. That is for sure a Utah thing.
I don't drink caffeine so we skipped the Diet Coke. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!

March Comes In Like a... Pig

March 1 was gentle so it didn't come in like a lion but March 2 we got hail so... draw your own conclusions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Great Airplane Catastrophe

(Part 1 of Lucky's Conclusion)

People screamed from the rooftops as they jumped on the airplanes with a thud, hail scattering around them. They crawled all around the airplanes attacking the windows, throwing rocks at the windows and biting the airplanes' wings. "Those things' teeth must be really strong," said a reporter before getting hit on the head with a chunk of hail. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, I get it. Hail. Acting like pigs. Drawing his own conclusions. Thanks, Lucky. I'm interested in reading Part 2.

Now let's go back to what I was originally going to talk about. March 1 was National Pig Day. I planned a "Pig Island" dinner like we had before. We also listened to Scott Bakula singing the Sandra Boynton/Michael Ford song.

We also watched the Doctor Who episode, "Aliens of London." That episode has a pig in it.

March 1 was also Share a Smile Day. We did.

March 2 was Read Across America Day. There was definitely reading going on around us. It was Dr. Seuss' Birthday so we of course ate green eggs and ham.

Advertising Works

National Smile Day was May 31.
Jeremy saw an advertisement for Nestle ice cream Drumsticks that talked about National Smile Day. Drumsticks were on sale at the grocery store so he went and bought several boxes and we ate some drumsticks that day to celebrate.
Advertising works!

Prehistoric Creatures Day

Everybody say, "Dinosaurs."

Last Wednesday we headed to Dinosaur Island at Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point. "Escape to Dinosaur Island."
We've been planning this for months since we knew they were going to have dinosaurs all over the gardens (it turns out they were animatronic dinosaurs). We were especially excited to bring our dinosaur loving youngest child.
That face says it all.

It was awesome. We loved it. It was fun to guess the dinosaurs we could see in the distance before we reached the informational signs. Some we got right, some we didn't.
Pachycephalosaurus I recognized since that was my brother's favorite dinosaur growing up. He was so into dinosaurs when we were kids. Being around my own children right now reminds me of that. They've all kind of gotten into it with Jet.

I guessed Edmontosaurus for these dinosaurs up ahead. As we got closer and saw the informational sign and the "nest" with hatchlings, both Nichole and Jr. said, "Of course, because Maiasaura means 'good mother'." Told you they've gotten into it.

Jet recognized several dinosaurs. Not surprised. We brought along some of his toy dinosaurs as well. Triceratops, Brachiosaurus, and T. rex.
I love this picture that Jr. Jr. got. It totally reminds me of the first Jurassic Park movie. "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear."

Look, it's my favorite dinosaur, stegosaurus.
We even got to see a stegosaurus plate fossil and Jr. Jr. got into a nice discussion with the lady holding the plate and talking to us. She was impressed that our family already knew so much.

As June 15 was Nature Photography Day, we photographed not just dinosaurs (check out this picture of Lucky hiding behind flowers to get pictures of a Utahraptor- nature photography, tee hee).
We also photographed flowers and birds, especially a Cooper's hawk.

And Lucky got pictures of the nearby windmills for Global Wind Day.

There was lots of smiling for Smile Power Day. I love dinosaurs! They make me smile. So does my family.

Dinosaur Island was awesome!

Later that day, Jeremy and I watched The Meg to celebrate National Megalodon Day. My mom recommended the movie to us and when she found out we were going to watch it to celebrate the holiday, she watched it, too, in her own home. So fun. Definitely need to suspend your disbelief with that movie and understand that it's so predictable but it was not nearly as gory as Jaws so that's something.
I love how it worked out to watch a movie about a prehistoric shark on the same day we went to see prehistoric creatures at Thanksgiving Point.
