Easter and General Conference Weekend

Easter fell on the Sunday of General Conference this year.
The Saturday of Conference, April 4, was Vitamin C Day so our Conference Nachos had green bell peppers and salsa and we drank juice with Vitamin C.
A sister from our ward stopped by between sessions and gave us some rice crispy treats as an Easter treat.
That Sunday, April 5, was Caramel Day so some family members had hot cocoa with caramel syrup in it.
There was plenty about Easter during General Conference. Wonderful talks.
I don't know how many times during Conference this time that a speaker would mention a piece of music in their talk (hymn or children's song) or read lyrics and immediately someone in our home would start humming it. Sometimes it was even me. I love that.
We love to emphasize the Savior on Easter Sunday then it's okay to have a little Easter Bunny fun the next day. We usually do an Easter egg hunt for FHE.
For our lesson, Jr. Jr. led us in one more scripture and thought for Holy Week. For our treat and activity, the kids hunted Easter eggs and we ate candy.
Earlier in the day, the boys cleaned and vacuumed the living room without being asked. Thank you, boys. By the time the Easter Bunny came, there were things all over. Eh, more places for the Easter Bunny to hide eggs. We didn't even bother to pick up a blanket that was on the floor. Eggs were just hidden there. Ha Ha. Nobody complained.
Since Monday, April 6, was Carbonara Day, that's what we had for dinner that night before the egg hunt.

General Conference October 2025

October 4 was Cinnamon Roll Day. I know some people make cinnamon rolls as a General Conference tradition but our traditional food is nachos. I made cinnamon rolls anyway because I like cinnamon rolls and I wanted to celebrate. Lucky frosted them. So helpful.
We also had nachos with fresh tomatoes and jalapenos from our garden!
Nichole made brownies for Saturday evening session which is also a tradition, but we had to eat them starting in the middle. That's how the tradition goes.
So we had some good food for Conference this time.

Other things we did:
General Conference snuggles
More dress up (that silly cutie)
A card game between sessions
I continued to work on those juggling balls that Jr. Jr. and I are making together
Several of us took notes and I definitely wrote down some things I want to work on with myself and in our home.
Another wonderful General Conference.

Spring Break 2025

Spring Break for the kids was from March 31-April 4 plus the weekends before and after.
Spring Break was, as often happens in Utah, a break from Spring. See our snow?

April 1 was April Fool's Day. I told everyone dinner was Fend For Yourselves but I did make "Kool-aid." It was actually Kool-aid. My family never knows from year to year if it's going to be Kool-aid or Jello. I made sure to use air quotes every time I mentioned it that day, though, so it added to "trick."

April 2 was National Walking Day. I made sure to get out for a walk by the lake that morning.
I walked around a playground later chasing after Jet. Lucky helped.
It was also Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. Yes, I did go around singing, "Peanut Butter Jelly Time." We had some peanut butter and jelly pretzel snacks. They're like the peanut butter pretzels but with a coating on the outside. Yumm.

April 4 was Walk Around Things Day. I walked around the store to get groceries and walked around the van to get the groceries.

April 5 and 6 were General Conference days. So good.
Jr. Jr. decided to make scones for everybody Saturday morning so with a little help from Dad, he did. He is a sweetie. They both are.
We had our traditional nachos, of course, and General Conference snuggles! April 5 was Love Our Children Day after all.
Saturday night we had our traditional Saturday evening session brownies. We had to start from the middle of course. Don't you love how traditions get started? This has been a tradition for more than 10 years. I blogged about the first time we did it on October 5, 2014.
General Conference wasn't all about food and snuggles. I tried to go in to it with very specific questions and listened for specific answers and I did. It was very personal some of the things the Lord let me know through the Spirit while listening to these speakers. I am so grateful.

Lucky got more service in during Spring Break. He twisted free balloon animals for people at the park.
He came with me one day to tie quilts for Humanitarian Aid.
He was fine. He just likes to make silly faces when I take his picture.

Lucky also made a bouquet of balloon flowers for a sister I minister to for her birthday. There was enough that she was able to separate the flowers for her family members. They enjoyed that.

There we go. Spring Break 2025.

General Conference

General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was October 5 and 6. Wonderful conference. So much about staying close to the Lord.
We had our traditional Conference Nachos and we had activities for kids. Conference Squares (Bingo). Snuggles. Note taking. Etcetera.

Since Northern Lights were supposed to be happening at some point, we decided to go out looking, just in case (we had some late nights). Friday night a few of us went around West Mountain to look North over the lake. We didn't see any Northern Lights but we saw a barn owl fly right in front of us. I love barn owls.
Saturday night a few of us stopped at Deer Creek Reservoir to look for the lights. We didn't see them then, either, but we were able to do service for some people late that night. These people were going to watch General Conference on Sunday and their vehicle broke down where we were. We were able to give two of them a ride (the exact number of seats we had since Nichole and Jr. stayed home) to a relative's house while the third stayed to work on their vehicle. It does feel good to do service.

Sunday morning the power went out. We got a notification that it would be back on around 11am so Nichole, Jeremy, and I went out for a drive and listened to the first session on the van radio.
We were able to watch the other session with the boys at home.

General Conference Weekend

At the end of Spring Break, we had General Conference Weekend. We thought it would be great to go see the Sage Grouse since that has kind of become a Spring Break tradition.
We got everybody up really early in the morning and headed out. There was a chance of snow so we would turn around and go home if the weather didn't look good. It looked good. All the way through Provo Canyon, all the way past Heber, then all of a sudden it hit. Seriously, just sitting in the van looking out the front window, it was totally clear, when all of a sudden we jumped to hyperspace. Whoa. Snow coming right at us, hard to see the lines on the road, all the vehicles going slowly. We got toward the top of the hill by Jordanelle Reservoir and started losing traction. We had already made the decision that we would abandon our trip if this happened, we just didn't realize it would happen so suddenly. We found a pullout and just hung out listening to audiobooks and the boys played video games on their devices.
Several snowplows went by and the snow calmed down a little bit. We were able to get to the next exit that thankfully had been plowed, and were able to get on the highway going back the way we came. Once we got down into Heber area again, it was clear all the way back home.
We went home and some of us slept then got up (picked up Nichole as she wanted to sleep instead of seeing the sage grouse), watched General Conference, ate nachos, some of us slept during Conference, and made brownies to start from the middle for the evening session.

O.K. Funny story before we left. My phone was connected to the van speakers via Bluetooth. I turned the van on to warm it up while we got the last of the stuff from inside. I had my audiobook on Libby on my phone in my pocket so I knew it would start playing through the speakers as I buckled Jet in. What I didn't realize is while the boys were sitting there in the van, all of a sudden they would hear, "Beast. Blood everywhere," in a menacing voice through the speakers before I paused my book. We all cracked up.
Sunday, April 7, besides being General Conference, was No Housework Day. Ha! I got up that morning to one child throwing up. So much for World Health Day. I think he was dehydrated because after that morning he was fine the rest of the day.
Nichole made the comment it seems like somebody always gets sick during General Conference weekend.
It was a good weekend even without sage grouse.

General Conference

The end of September and the beginning of October saw General Conference.
Saturday morning before the first session, Jr. Jr. and I went to watch the sunrise amid the Fall colors.
We had our General Conference Nachos and for the Saturday evening session, we had brownies and started eating them from the middle (it's tradition). The Food Nanny Zucchini Brownies.
General Conference was again great. President Nelson taught us to "Think Celestial!" There were definitely things for me to think about. I'm grateful for General Conference.

General Conference, Etc.

Let's get started catching up on April.

General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the beginning of April. We had our traditional nachos, took notes, had bonding time while watching the sessions together.
The Saturday evening session was a combined general session. We made brownies for everyone to share and as is the tradition for General Conference, we started eating them from the middle first. As it was also April Fool's Day, we made two batches of brownies. One was normal and one used lemon extract and olive oil instead of the usual vanilla extract and canola/vegetable oil. Then I put them in the oven and couldn't remember which pan was which so we had to eat them to find out.

Some other things that happened during General Conference. Jr. put a water bottle on my head while I was watching and texted a picture to Jeremy. Jeremy's response? "Working on your poise?" That is in reference to one of the talks from the Saturday evening session, "Christlike Poise," by Elder Mark A. Bragg.

President Nelson gave a talk during the Sunday morning session called, "Peacemakers Needed."
Jr. Jr. had this to say: Jet is the biggest peacemaker of all of us because when he's all cute and stuff, he helps us to calm down and when he's mad, he makes things into pieces.

Jeremy was a peacemaker and shared his drink with Jet.
He also read to him because the second day of General Conference was April 2, International Children's Book Day.

General Conference

So many good talks in General Conference again. Some of us took notes. Some of the boys played "Conference Squares." Jet ate M&Ms.
We had our traditional nachos. When did that become a tradition? It used to be only for the New Year.
I had some hot chocolate. I can't remember the reason why but I found a picture of me with my Provo mug so there must be a reason why. Oh well. Your guess is as good as mine.

Last year, Jr. Jr. and I got to go hiking before the first Saturday session. This year, Jeremy took Lucky out fishing at Deer Creek Reservoir. They didn't catch anything but had good bonding time.
