Mmmm, Indian Food

Have I mentioned I like Indian food?
Last time I made Indian food, I didn't have what I needed to make raita, the cucumber yogurt stuff. I did this time but I didn't have time to make flatbread or aloo gobi which I really wanted again. Oh well. Guess I'll have to put Indian food on the menu plan again for sometime soon. Yumm.

Jeremy walked in the door and was happy with the smell. It's like comfort food without even having to eat it. It tasted good, too. Jet enjoyed the chickpea stuff especially.

After the Indian food we had watermelon that had been chilling in the cooler, just like we did last year for National Cooler Day, this year on May 27.

Since it was also National Road Trip Day, Jet, Nichole, and I took a road trip to the Provo Library.

May 28 was Whooping Crane Day so of course I had the kids, "Whoop! Whoop!" in front of a crane just like last year.

I'd been watching for months worried that the crane wouldn't be there to celebrate this holiday but it was. Hooray!

The School Year Ends

We did it. We survived the school year. The last day of school for Jr., Jr. Jr., and Lucky, I was going around singing, "Today is the day. It's the last day of school. So many new things to learn and do... for Summer Reading!" Yeah. CoComelon is still a thing in our home (and I'm excited about Summer Reading). I did throw a little Finding Nemo in there and called out, "Last day of school! Last day of school!" when dropping Jr. off to perform in the end of the school year musical assembly.

I made last day of school breakfast burritos for everybody this year. Aren't I nice?
Jr. was so tired that morning.

I got pictures of the boys before school. It was a sunny morning.

And a quick picture of Lucky after school because we had to run back to the school because he was missing a couple things we never found. Sigh.
We survived.

I've Had a Birthday. Shout Hooray!

Somebody had a birthday recently. It was me!
I'll be honest. It was another one of those rough days. I had my end of the school year breakdown when I dropped cinnamon bread on the floor. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I cried a lot and Jeremy gave me a lot of hugs.
I did better at the end of the day when I had my cake and rainbow sherbet and opened presents and cards.
Jeremy got me the next two blog books (professionally printed, hard bound copies of my blog, one per year)- 2017 and 2018. It's been a few years since he's been able to do that so I was so happy to get them. It's family history. I remember when I was growing up my mom always had photo albums we could look through. These are my photo albums.
Sweet Lucky made me a rose out of Legos.

Jr. had fun with my phone while we were birthday celebrating. He told me he could edit pictures right on my phone. He showed me what he did with pictures of Jr. Jr. and Nichole.

Then he showed me his favorite picture of my present opening:
and showed me how he enhanced it:

Sigh. I love that kid. Earlier in the day, I was watching part of a movie and he made me popcorn (and shared it). So yeah, I do love that kid.

Snails and Towels

May 24 was Escargot Day. I finally took a picture of a couple snails that have been sticking around (pun intended) for a while. Why the small one decided to crawl on the larger one's back, I don't know.

May 25 was Towel Day and Brown Bag It Day. Lucky took lunch to school in a brown bag. We used towels a lot. Nichole watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy while doing dishes which were dried with towels. I repeatedly told the kids, "Don't panic."

The last couple years we've had picnics at dinnertime with brown bags for these holidays. This year the boys, Jeremy, and I went to a barbecue instead. We ate food, the younger boys played games, it was enjoyable.

Jet decided on the way out it was fun to splash in a puddle he found. It's a good thing we had a towel with us.

Before we went to the barbecue, however, Jr. showed me what happened in biology. Apparently, he won the encounters contest in two categories. He had the most invertebrates and plants. So taking him to the park was worth it as was visiting the Butterfly Biosphere and all the other things we did to help him.
He was happy to get a new shirt as well as a couple of gift cards. Well done, Jr. He worked hard for those.

Happy Birthday, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

May 22 was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Birthday. I wore my bow/ribbon earrings and stegosaurus necklace because Sir Arthur Conan Doyle didn't just write about Sherlock Holmes. He also wrote about the Lost World. Tee Hee.

Those are my special occasion earrings. I usually wear them to celebrate birthdays like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's. They look like ribbon bows you find on the top of presents. So fun.

P.S. Nichole really likes Sherlock Holmes books.

Lots of Things for Us to Celebrate

Friday, May 20, was a busy day. It was Pick Strawberries Day so Lucky picked strawberries to go in his lunch that day.
Jet and I went to watch the elementary school dance festival. I was so worried it was going to rain. I needn't have worried. It snowed. Heh Heh. Just a tiny bit but everybody there could tell there were definitely little flakes coming down.

If you look really closely in this picture, you can see little snowflakes in our hair.

Jr. Jr. and Lucky both did a really good job. And Jet did a good job staying with me. He was only a little wiggly.
It wore him out, though.

Since it was Eliza Doolittle Day, we ate more of the devil's food cake after school because it was "lots of chocolate for me to eat."

Look. It's the dancing boys home from school.

That night Jeremy took the three oldest boys camping for the ward Father-Son campout.

While they were gone Nichole and I made French bread chicken alfredo pizza for National Pizza Party Day and we watched Pride & Prejudice (The Keira Knightley version) because her orchestra played music from it in her last concert. Jet and I got tired so we went to bed and missed the end of the movie. I had already started dozing and was missing parts of it anyway. Oh well.

When the boys got home the next morning, I heard plenty of exclamations of how much they enjoyed their camping trip. I'm so glad.

That Saturday evening, May 21, we had strawberries with whipped topping to go with dinner to celebrate Strawberries and Cream Day. We also had herbal tea to celebrate International Tea Day.

Crayzy Mayzy Continues

I told you Nichole had another concert coming up. Jeremy and I were able to watch her and to see her get an award on stage. The teacher was handing out a few certificates during the concert. Hers was a "Rehearsal Ready" award because she was one of the kids who was always on time, first to class even, never forgot her music, and was just ready to go.
Afterward the orchestra kids got "paper plate" awards in the back. That's cute. Nichole got Early Bird and Practice Prodigy. Way to go, Nichole.

The high school had their last official day of classes. Nichole missed them because she went to the state orchestra festival. I made sure to get a picture of her that day, though.

Then she had some things to finish up so I got another picture of her today.
Check out the quilt she made in her sewing/quilting class
Our friend, Trina, would be so proud. Trina has been making baby quilts for my children for many years. I'm sure she'll be happy to know Nichole has learned.
Now to survive the rest of the week.
Crazy Mayzy continues.

P.S. Do you see the shirt Nichole wore for World Turtle Day on May 23? It's her Earth Day shirt with a turtle on it. Yes, it was intentional. Earth Turtle. World Turtle.

Congrats, Jr.

Two years ago Nichole finished off junior high at home. She went to the school to pick up certificates. Some teachers even dropped off prizes.
This year, Jr. got to go to the junior high for a kind of graduation thing. He got to sit on the stage to be recognized with other students who did outstanding in certain areas at school. Jeremy and I were there watching him. Then he got certificates and we said, "Yay," and he got to see some friends who also said, "Yay." I'm paraphrasing here, of course.

Then we went home and celebrated with the family by eating Devil's Food Cake (May 19 was Devil's Food Cake Day).
Since May 19 was the anniversary of the Rubik's Cube, Jr. used some of his saved up points at school and got himself another Rubik's Cube. I think this kid may have as many or more than me at this point. Love it.
Congrats, Jr. I know you were so exhausted by the end of the day but you did it!
