The KAT's Meow

Lucky: So no bake cookies are good for your bones.
Mom: Oh, because they have milk in them. But the sugar in them rots your teeth.
Jr. Jr.: Your teeth are bones so they both strengthen your teeth and rot your teeth. It's like granola bars wrapped in bacon.

Jr.: Now let's go watch people being murdered.
Mom: What did you say?
Jr.: Now let's go watch people being murdered.
Mom: What are you watching?
Jr.: Book of Mormon videos.
Mom: OK. That's appropriate for Sunday.

Midnight Philosophy

Midnight Philosophy: That time around around midnight when you're so tired that everything is funny to you.

When I was younger, something like reading the phone book could set you off laughing. That's midnight philosophy.
It can happen at other times, too, sometimes even 9 o'clock at night. You just have to be that tired.

Happy 2-22-22

Happy 2-22-22. I made sure to get a picture with Jet awake this time (see 2-2-22).

The kids and I went out for a drive today to get 22 species of birds on 2-22-22. We got them. Jr. got a picture of a very obliging black-crowned night heron.

Nichole got several pictures of bald eagles flying around but I didn't get those pictures from her.

The kids pointed out that we had the 2nd child with us and the 2 year old. More 2s.

When we got home we had soft tacos and sweet potato strips. Some people were calling it "Taco Twosday." It was Cook a Sweet Potato Day.

Muffin Night

I'm too tired to post about what a great day I had yesterday so I will let you know that tonight we had Muffin Night again. It's been a while and I keep canceling it when I have it on the menu plan but we finally did it tonight to celebrate National Muffin Day on February 20. Yay.

The kids helped so we were able to have a good variety again and we got some good use out of my new muffin tins. Yay.

And there are so many leftover muffins. Yay.

Gumdrops and Almonds and Cabbage, Oh My.

I was too tired this week to blog about the holidays (or the computer was unavailable) so here's what we missed:
February 15 was National Gumdrop Day. The kids had gumdrops for after school snack.
February 16 was Pancake Day at IHOP. It was also National Almond Day. I had honey bunches of oats with almonds for breakfast. Jeremy and I had a snack with almonds in it in the middle of the day. I made a broccoli salad with almonds to go with our dinner of chocolate chip pancakes that Jr. made. Thanks, Jr.

February 17 was National Cabbage Day. Mmmm, more Chinese food. I only had one bag of chow mein noodles left so I made less than I normally would and so many of us picked at the chow mein while dinner was being prepared that we ended up with just a small bowlful at dinner. There were plenty of egg rolls, though. Mmm, Chinese food.

February 17 was also Random Acts of Kindness Day. I started watching an episode of "Random Acts" on BYUTV while I was making dinner. It was the episode with The Food Nanny. You know I love The Food Nanny.
There, blogged. Phew.

We Don't Talk About Pluto

We don't talk about Pluto, no no. We don't talk about Pluto.
It was 2006 (It was 2006)
And there were nine planets in the sky.
IAU walks in with a mischievous grin (dwarf planet).
You telling this story or am I?
IAU said a planet's big (and spherical).
A planet doesn't share it's orbit (but Pluto does).
Pluto's now a dwarf planet (not one of the eight).
We don't talk about Pluto, no no. We don't talk about Pluto.

Very very rough start to a parody of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" for Pluto Day, February 18. We had some fun figuring out different parts to the song. I love what Lucky figured out for a certain part of the song (you can figure out which part). "If you land on Pluto you would freeze. Ss ss ss."
This morning after working on this a bit with Jr. Jr. and Lucky, we then got into other discussions such as what would happen if you tried to step on Mars as compared to trying to step on a gas giant such as Jupiter. Then we got into talking about Alan Shepard hitting golf balls on the moon. The golf balls didn't fly into space because while the gravity on the moon is less than on Earth, it is strong enough to pull the golf balls down to the surface again, just not as quickly as on Earth.
At dinner everyone got into the song creating. I just love this family. We also made sure to eat together for the holiday, No One Eats Alone Day.

A couple other holidays today: National Battery Day. Jeremy had to take the car battery out in order to change a headlight. National Caregiver's Day. I of course was taking care of Jet all day.

Jeremy had the stickers, paper, tape, and the pencil sharpener. What else was he supposed to do?

Catch of the Day

The boys found out that they could make imprints in their blankets they got for Christmas. Hands, feet, and then they realized they could make imprints of their faces.

Baby Cuteness

My baking buddy.
And cooking buddy?

Our new routine. I work on my blog while Jet watches CoComelon... and falls asleep.

What?

What's this bowl for?

Just hanging out, playing with these toys.

Exercising!

Just 5 more minutes, Mom.
Fine. I'll go but I don't have to like it.

Another day, he snuggled up to me and was asleep in about 10 seconds.
You can't see me. But I can see you.

Here I am.

Ready to go!

Valentine's Day

I thought we had finished the Valentine's celebrating since we did it a day early. Then I had a dream. In my dream, Lucky missed the beginning of school because he was decorating his Valentine box still (he and Jr. Jr. both finished their boxes and valentines to give to classmates on Saturday). Apparently he was painting it, which is a horrible idea to do the morning before the school day or during the school day but such is the nature of dreams. In my dream, it kept getting later and later so he ended up missing the school day, then somehow Jr. Jr. was there, too, and had missed the whole school day as well. Sigh. When I told those boys about my dream, they assured me they wouldn't miss school.
When I came back from dropping Nichole off and school, I called the boys to see if they were coming out. Lucky said, "But I need to paint my Valentine box." Hee Hee Hee.

He went with a Doctor Who theme for his box and valentines.

Give me valentines or you will be exterminated.

Jr. Jr. went with a game theme.

Insert valentines to play.

They of course brought home plenty of candy to get themselves sugared up.

I planned to do fajitas for dinner then when I was talking with Nichole and Jr. after picking them up from school I mentioned we had pizza dough in the fridge that needed to be used. All of a sudden I figured it out, "Fajita pizza!" Jr. immediately came back with, "Fajitza!" I love that kid and his quick wit.
So we had fajitza and BBQ chicken pizza for those that didn't want to eat it. But the fajitza was yummy. We have had heart-shaped pizza for Valentine's Day in the past but I forgot to make it heart-shaped this time.
Lately anytime anybody goes to store and asks if there's something someone needs, one of the boys will say, "Reese's Pieces Lemon Squeezes." I don't even know where that came from but they do ask for it. Tonight Jeremy and I presented the kids with a bag of Reese's Pieces and chewy Lemonheads and said something like, "We hope your Valentine's Day was full of Reese's Pieces Lemon Squeezes."

So we ended up celebrating Valentine's Day today after all. And it was a beautiful day for it... and evening.

Superb Owl Sunday

It's Superb Owl Sunday! There was something called the Super Bowl happening today but I don't actually care about football so I don't even know who won. Wait, let me check.
Ah, the Rams won. The only reason I knew the Rams were playing against the Bengals was because of a food blog that mentioned it. Hey, food and snacks are a big part of a Super Bowl party, right?
Actually, one of the players for the Bengals used to go to the high school that my daughter goes to so that was a big thing from the high school wishing him well as well as the city wishing him well. Too bad it didn't work out so well for him and his team this time. They did make it to the Super Bowl, though.
But you know me. I'd rather celebrate Superb Owl Sunday.
It of course started with Jeremy drawing a picture during church. This is a spider owl.
Yeah, that's what I thought, too.

Jeremy and I went out for a nice relaxing drive and a nice relaxing walk. We saw a great horned owl
a black-crowned night heron that was in such a position it kind of looked like an owl,
and a Northern harrier that has an owl like face.
We enjoyed seeing other birds, too.
I'd say it was a good Superb Owl Sunday.

Since tomorrow is Valentine's Day, we decided to celebrate it today at home. Like last year, when we got home from our drive, the kids brought us in to have a candlelit dinner for two. Jr. Jr. and Lucky greeted us at our vehicle and led us in.
There was a table set up, this time with a giant Valentine's card I had made for Jeremy. It had a message with different kinds of candy taped to it, you know that kind of note. The boys were so happy to have been a part of helping with that, having it there for Dad to see. Jr. Jr. and Lucky had also written a bunch of sweet notes for us.
The kids provided dinner and entertainment. I love that besides the candle, Jr. brought out the flower he made for me last Valentine's as a centerpiece.
I'd say it was a successful Superb Owl Sunday and Valentine's Day (observed).
