Cheese and Pickle Sandwiches

I am thankful for cheese and pickle sandwiches and how easy they are to make. I'm also thankful for homemade bread with which to make the sandwiches.
November 14 was National Pickle Day. It was also American Teddy Bear Day. I wanted to look for a teddy bear to put in a picture with a cheese and pickle sandwich to celebrate both holidays. One of my children mentioned Winnie-the-Pooh but I noted that Winnie-the-Pooh is a British teddy bear. I grabbed a care bear, which is an American teddy bear.
Phew. Holidays celebrated.

November 15 was Steve Irwin Day. I kept my eye out for wildlife as I was out running errands. First thing I noticed when I left the house was hearing birds in the morning. Not surprising. You know I love birds.
I am thankful for Steve Irwin's family and what they have continued to teach us about wildlife conservation even though Steve is no longer around. The Crocodile Hunter was a very important part of my childhood growing up as it was with a lot of people my age.
It was also Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day so we had leftovers.

P.S. My friend sent me the Lucille Ball wearing the pickle costume video again like she did last year.

More July Holidays

Let's jump into catching up on more July holidays.
July 7 was Father Daughter Take a Walk Day. Jeremy was not available that day so I took Nichole for a walk into a store to get hair stuff and makeup. Girl time. Woohoo.
It was also Macaroni Day so we had macaroni with our dinner.

July 10 was Teddy Bear Picnic Day. We had a picnic with teddy bears and non teddy bears on the living room floor. We made sure to invite Eeyore so he wouldn't be sad. Jr. picked a lovely location for us- Ordon Village.

We ate chicken patties for Cow Appreciation Day on July 11. Reminded us of a certain chicken place's advertising.

July 13 was Embrace Your Geekness Day. I like to call it Embrace Your Geek Day. I made sure to get a picture embracing Jeremy while wearing my Jurassic Park shirt.
The kids played chess with a Legend of Zelda Chess set.

July 14 was Mac & Cheese Day so we had shells and white cheddar and added macaroni.

It was also Shark Awareness Day. I bought gummi sharks for this holiday but forgot to get them out so we had them along with gummi worms on Gummi Worm Day, July 15.

We celebrated Nichole's birthday in July. We quickly turned the fan off before there was any candle... situation.

Captain Kirk in Space

We got the kids off to school the shortened day before Fall Break and Jeremy saw a Facebook live thing about Blue Origin's rocket making its second manned flight into space. He told me William Shatner was going as the oldest person to ever go into space. 90 years old. I was thinking, 90? That's right because he was on Star Trek back in the 60's.
Jeremy even told me of some memes that were going around about it making references to Star Trek.
So as we were watching the rocket launch and go I was just watching and watching and all of a sudden it dawned on me and I exclaimed, "Ohhhhh, William Shatner going into space!"
Somehow with all that was going on, Jeremy talking about the Captain Kirk memes and how it was William Shatner going, I didn't get the significance, I just didn't get it that it was William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in a show and movies about space, who was going to space.
I put my face in my hands because I couldn't believe myself and how long it took me to get it. Jeremy busted out laughing because of my exclamation and how we'd been watching and having this conversation about it for maybe half an hour before I got it.
They made it safely back to Earth and I still laughed at myself.

That day, October 13, was Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day. Lucky put Baby Bear in his backpack and kept him there through school.

Since it was a short school day leading into Fall Break, we went to the Scarecrow Festival at Thanksgiving Point. I love this annual tradition. Some favorites were...

Then we found Waldo in several places around the garden.
We also played in the leaves.

We stopped at the Water Tower Plaza for a moment for Jeremy to run in the Butterfly Biosphere gift shop to see if they had any chocolate covered insects for the holiday on October 14. They didn't and apparently Thanksgiving Point doesn't carry them anymore. Ah, man. But I got this picture through the windshield.
It was good family time.

"Les Miseranimals"

July 10 was Teddy Bear Picnic Day. We took teddy bears for a walk in a park (and we didn't step on any bees for Don't Step on a Bee Day) but it was too hot to picnic there so we picnicked in the living room at home instead while watching "Les Miseranimals" on Animaniacs. Then we ate meat pies because it was National Kitten Day. If you're familiar with that episode of Animaniacs, you'll get why it's funny and sad at the same time.

4th Grade Rendezvous

At school Jr. Jr. learned about mountain men and how they would get together with native Americans to trade with each other -mountain men rendezvous. The 4th grade teachers had the students collect items from home that they could bring to trade for their own 4th Grade Rendezvous.

Here are the items Jr. Jr. took. He really wanted his sister to draw a picture for him to take. She did. She's so nice. I put con-tact paper on it to make it a little more sturdy. We also thought it would be fun to send him with a roll of toilet paper since that is a high demand item this year. We figured the parents of whatever student took it home would get a kick out of it.

Here's what he brought home (minus some candy he'd already eaten). He enjoyed himself.

Lucky had show and tell at school. He was supposed to bring something he wanted to talk about and write three clues to help people guess what the object was. He chose to bring his little teddy bear pin and these were his clues:
It is brown. It is soft and hard and sharp. It has ears, eyes, a nose, and arms and legs.

Teddy Bear Helpers

Jeremy: Come on, Pooh. We're going on an expedition... to an half an acre wood.

November 14 was National American Teddy Bear Day and you can't get much more American than Winnie-the-Pooh.... Oh.

Well, anyway...
We celebrated with teddy bears getting involved in all sorts of things throughout the day from helping with washing dishes and food preparation to book editing and movie watching.

Pooh Bear went with Jeremy to do some birding that morning while Baby Bear helped me make breakfast burritos and Mommy Bear helped Jr. take care of Jet. Awww.
After breakfast, the bears helped us clean the living room and various other tasks.
Jr. Jr. even made a teddy bear out of blocks to help with different tasks.
Baby Bear helped when Lucky and I needed to have a little heart to heart.
It wasn't all about work, though. The teddy bears also helped us play.

After Jeremy got back, he and Pooh Bear had an online meeting so the kids and teddy bears and I went for a drive. We played the game that Jr. Jr. and I played after General Conference last month and the kids took turns deciding which direction we would go until Jeremy told us he was done with his meeting.
After we got back we got to watch a movie (the kids earned it with how hard they and the teddy bears worked) and I finally made the pizza I didn't get to a couple days before.

Recently for a Family Home Evening lesson, Jr. talked to us about showing kindness and doing service.
He made punch cards for each of us. Good deeds are rewarded with a punched hole. When the whole card is filled up, we can take it to Jr. who will make us a treat of our choice. Since November 14 was also the anniversary of the hole puncher, we took the opportunity to punch a lot of holes in those punch cards. The kids were very helpful that day (and Mom and Dad... and several teddy bears).

How's that for celebrating?
