Something On a Stick Day 2024

Something on a Stick Day, March 28. It is a popular thing to have corn dogs on this day. I didn't want corn dogs. What I decided I did want was chicken kabobs. I haven't made kabobs in a while.
My sweet most wonderful husband took some time the day before cutting up vegetables for me and... a pineapple. He didn't cut up vegetables for me and a pineapple. He cut up vegetables and a pineapple for me. Sweet husband.
Jet decided to be sweet and a helper in the kitchen again, this time to eat pineapple as Dad cut it up.
Everybody got to choose what they wanted on their skewers from just chicken to the works (chicken, pineapple, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes). Yum. The chicken was cut up and marinated in Yoshida's gourmet sauce that morning. Jr. Jr. helped hand me veggies and fruit while assembling the kabobs so I didn't have to keep washing my hands when I wanted to touch them after touching the raw meat.
Thanks, Jr. Jr. We put the kabobs in a 350 degree oven for about half an hour (give or take) then turned on the broiler for a few minutes at the end.
Simple. Easy. Yummy.
We also had petite pickles on toothpicks. Something on a stick. The boys had fun with that.
And Jr. Jr. and Lucky used the excuse of Something on a Stick to make more cookie candy flowers like they did for Valentine's Day, except this time they had cherry juju hearts that Jeremy found that I couldn't find before Valentine's Day. Thanks, boys. And Jeremy.
The kids were playing a video game. I saw that there was a unicorn so this exchange happened.
Mom: Hey, it's a unicorn. Its horn is like a stick.
Jr.: It's a horse on a stick.

Celebrating Holidays in March

Started this post back in April but you know... chaos... then Jr. Jr. and Lucky like to "help" with my blog posts.

Bear with me as I have a whole month of holidays to talk about so I won't remember all of them especially if I didn't take pictures.
March 1: Share a Smile Day. I already posted the picture I took that day of Jet, Lucky, and I sharing a smile. I posted it on March 26, 2023.
March 2: Dr. Seuss' Birthday. We had green shelled eggs from neighbors' chickens. We also had ham. We ate breakfast burritos.

March 3: I Want You To Be Happy Day. Going to the library makes Nichole happy. Running around the library makes Jet happy.

March 7: National Cereal Day. Some of us had cereal. Some of us had cheese and pickle sandwiches.
March 8: Kenneth Grahame's Birthday. We had The Reluctant Dragon checked out of the library for this.
Also National Proofreading Day. Nichole wrote.
March 15: Ides of March. Lucky was quite happy we had Chicken Caesar Salad Wraps.
March 16: National Panda Day. "Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?"

Also Artichoke Hearts Day. We may or may not have had alfredo pizza with artichoke hearts. I'm leaning toward we did.
March 17: St. Patrick's Day. We wore green.
March 18: Sloppy Joe Day. Jeremy made us sloppy joes and onion roasted potatoes while the kids and I were out. I tried to get a picture of all of us. It wasn't easy so I made the comment that the picture was horrible so I needed to try again. Lucky commented, "Why is the picture horrible? Oh, because of your face?" Don't exactly know how to take that.

March 19: Poultry Day. Cooked chicken drumsticks and made some Indian food to go with them because we had ingredients we needed to use up.

Also Let's Laugh Day. Have you met my family? Of course there was laughing.
March 20: Vernal Equinox/First Day of Spring and National Snowman Burning Day. Jr. Jr.'s Family Home Evening activity- making paper snowmen and burning them. We started with a jar and ended on a pie plate which worked better.
I was going to make snowman sandwiches for dinner. Grilled cheese snowman sandwiches. We had had grilled cheese and grilled pb&j but forgot the raisins so they weren't snowman sandwiches.
March 21: French Bread Day. These loaves turned out gorgeous if I do say so myself.

March 28: Something on a Stick Day. I made pizza muffins and ham and cheese muffins and we ate them on toothpicks.

March 29: Manatee Appreciation Day. I went around singing "Barbara Manatee" most of the day.
There. I did it. Blogged about holidays in March. Phew.

Something on a Stick Day 2022

Honestly, we've been more creative for Something on a Stick Day, March 28, in the past but I woke up with a throwing up baby so... there went my day. He was fine by the end of the day, ready to run around with his siblings, so I managed to do a simple dinner to celebrate the holiday and that's it.

Catching Up- March

Plenty happened in March.

March 1 was National Pig Day. Great excuse for hot dogs with sauerkraut.
It was also Share a Smile Day. And it sure makes me smile when my kids do service.

The kids and I went to a performance at the Orem Library one day. The Woodwind Family Quintet from BYU was showing different woodwind instruments then they did a performance of "Peter and the Wolf." Ah, music.  I love music.
Afterward, the kids and I sat down to some book reading.  Since Jeremy had work during the performance, we brought along "Daddy" so he wouldn't miss it.

Surprise.

For Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2, we had green eggs and ham.

Jeremy and I got out with a friend and headed up to Alta, not for the skiing, but for the birds. They have bird feeders up there that attract different kids of birds. We got to see some birds there that we hadn't seen other places. It was cold and snowy and worth it.

Jr. registered for junior high classes and got an idea of what it would feel like to play the cello.

March 5 was National Cheese Doodle Day.  Mmmmmm. Queasy puffs.

Nichole delighted us at another orchestra concert at the junior high.

I had a girls' night with some friends from our old ward.  It was so nice to see them. Love those gals.  The person hosting suggested we make treats like an English tea.  I contributed cucumber sandwiches.

Of course I forgot to take a picture of our impossible cheeseburger pie that we had for dinner on Pi Day, March 14, until it was almost gone. Oh, well.

The kids helped make dinner on the Ides of March, March 15. Caesar Salad again.

Since the boys' school was going to be no more (combining with another school to become a brand new school next year), they had a big gala to say goodbye.  They had a red carpet with photo op on the way in, we had refreshments, and we got to watch the kids do dances and see presentations of the school over its last 65 years.

Lucky and I got out for a nice walk on the first day of Spring, which was March 20.

Nichole put a lot of work into a National History Day project about the extinction of the passenger pigeon and we were able to go to see her display.

Great job, Nichole. (Click on the picture to see a bigger version of it)

Some friends came to visit during their Spring Break and the kids put on a show for us.

For Harry Houdini's Birthday on March 24, we ate pigs in a straitjacket.

On International Waffle Day, March 25, we ate... waffles.

March 28 was Something on a Stick Day. I put out different foods and let people go at them with toothpicks. Creativity did come out.

Jr. Jr. competed in his first pinewood derby. He put a lot of work into designing it, and sanding it, after dad helped carve it, and painting it all by himself.  He won an award for best paint job.

Jeremy and I got to go on a date to a local play where we supported some friends in our ward, some of whom got their first acting experience in this.  They did a great job.

We started off our Spring Break with a slumber party in the living room (Mom and Dad slept in our own room).

We went to our ward talent show. We thought about putting a juggling routine together but things were so busy we didn't get around to it. We had fun watching everyone else's acts, though.

March 26 was Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. I chose to celebrate some other actual holidays on that day. So I guess you could call it Celebrate Other Holidays Day.
Here's a list of some of those holidays:
Video Games Day is July 8 and National Video Games Day is September 12.
Walk Around Things Day is April 4.
National Oatmeal Muffin Day is December 19.
National Chocolate Pudding Day is June 26.
National Gumdrop Day is February 15.

YES! I did it! I am done catching up with March. On to April.
