Drive-In Movie Day

June 6 was Drive-In Movie Day.
Jet got to sit in a box "car" with paper plate wheels, with a pillow and a Switch steering wheel inside. He got to "drive" into the living room (thanks, Nichole)
and ordered the Deluxe movie package, which consisted of watching a movie and snacks: pizza, nachos, popcorn, candy, lemonade.
He had a blast. The food was brought out to him (I made the other kids serve themselves), and the kids and I enjoyed a movie, the animated Disney Robin Hood. I enjoyed most of the movie. I fell asleep before it was over.
It took some effort (mostly preparing the food. Nichole put toppings on the pizza, Jr. made the popcorn, and Lucky made the lemonade) but the car was very simple.
We love finding reasons to celebrate.

Cheddar Fries Day 2026

Cheddar Fries Day, April 20, was a busy day so dinner was quick and simple. Pasta with rotisserie chicken and whatever sauce and fries with cheddar cheese on them to celebrate the holiday.

Rubber Ducky, You're the One... But so are Dinosaurs

One day, Jet decided to "help" one of his brothers who was washing dishes. He came back to my room with a rubber ducky covered in suds. I figured in order to keep him from causing too much trouble to his brother but also to let him continue with what he was doing, I'd make him his own "bath" for the rubber duckies. We just used a mixing bowl with water and dish soap (and a towel underneath- very important) and let the rubber duckies take a bath. We of course sang the "Rubber Ducky" song.
We decided to let some dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures join in the fun.
After a while, Jet told me he needed a "handy fishing pole," which is something Mickey Mouse uses in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
I just threw something together with a bamboo skewer and yarn taped to it. It had a loop on the end that he could put around some of the creatures to lift them. He was content with that.
Ah, simple fun.

Eat Your Jello Day

July 12 was Paper Bag Day so we had lunch in paper bags.

It was also Eat Your Jello Day so we checked out a book from the library called, "Celebrating 100 Years of Jell-O," then I made plain lime jello to go with dinner.

It was National Simplicity Day. I didn't want to put effort into making any of the recipes in that book.

Something on a Stick Day 2022

Honestly, we've been more creative for Something on a Stick Day, March 28, in the past but I woke up with a throwing up baby so... there went my day. He was fine by the end of the day, ready to run around with his siblings, so I managed to do a simple dinner to celebrate the holiday and that's it.
