A few days ago, Nichole was learning about Dr. Seuss at her school library. This is what she learned:
"This is when Dr. Seuss was young. Uh... He was drawing zoo animals on the wall and his parents let him. And then he wrote funny books.
And his mom told him her favorite animal. It's ears were 9 feet long. And that's why Dr. Seuss did funny pictures on the ceiling of zoo animals. The End"
This is what they did at school today:
"We read Dr. Seuss books and read as a class Fox, Beware. And we had bookmarks that when you're done reading ten books you can color them any way you want. And if you finished we could have one from Mrs. Schiller. The first bookmark had a boy wearing a Cat in the Hat hat and we had to color the hat to number 10. The End. Oh, and we also did The Lorax." She also told me she finished a Cat in the Hat project.
It seems that lots of people are celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday today. We are. This is what we've done:
We had green eggs and ham, of course.
This year, we didn't put food coloring in our eggs. The shells of the eggs were green to begin with.
Isn't that fun? There is a type of chicken that lays green eggs. Now if we could only find a goose that lays golden eggs...
During breakfast, Nichole and Jr. also acted out the story for us.
We had fun rhyming from time to time throughout the day. After school, Jeremy and I read the book, Green Eggs and Ham, to the children. The Cat in the Hat wasn't available at the library otherwise we would have read that, too. Oh well.
Our celebrating of this holiday was kind of simple this year, but the important thing is we still had fun.
Oh, and do you remember this little guy from last year's Read Across America Day?
I'm thinking this is the only one who survived through the year. We found it as we were organizing.
How did you celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday? I know a lot of you did.
