What They Missed- August 8

Sunday, August 8-
The day they headed home.

The boys and I watched church from home that day. I am so proud of them. While I stayed in my pajamas, Jr. Jr. and Lucky both got dressed in their church clothes to watch Sacrament Meeting.
I didn't feel as bad on Sunday as I did on Saturday but still took it easy.

We had a little fun.

"Smile."

At one point, Jet got a hold of my phone and took pictures and videos.
We did go outside for a few minutes, not for the fresh air obviously, but because we had been cooped up for a couple of days and the boys needed to run around if just for a moment.
We could see a little more of the mountains but it was still very hazy.
Jeremy and Nichole and Jr. started their trip home that day, stopping briefly to visit his brother and his wife in Idaho on the way.

I looked at the calendar but didn't do anything to celebrate anything. Blahhh. Being sick stinks.

Big Springs Hiking

National Sleepyhead Day in Finland is on July 27. I got the kids up early this year (early for Summer anyway) to go hiking up Big Springs since that is one of the items on our Summer Wishlist and we kept putting it off for various reasons. Jr. Jr. really wanted to go so we made it happen. Morning worked better than evening. Anyway, Lucky was the last one still asleep but we didn't get him wet.

We did however have fun hiking. There was so much to see- plants, animals. We saw wild turkeys on the drive up and a few times on the hike.

There were butterflies everywhere. It was quite pleasant.

We didn't make it all the way to the springs which was Jr. Jr.'s goal but he had a good attitude about us needing to turn back.
I was impressed with Jet and how far he hiked. He was just happy to go anywhere if he got to hold and look through binoculars.
Jr. got the brother of the day award, though, when Jet didn't want to walk anymore and Jr. carried him all the way down the trail and got him to sleep holding those binoculars. While he was asleep, I took them away but he stirred and I had to give them back so he would go back to sleep. Finally I was able to put them away but that boy loves binoculars.

It was a wonderful hike. We had Jet saying, "Hiking." We couldn't get him to say, "We are hiking." When we tried to get him to say that, he would say, "1, 2, 3, hiking." So cute.

Later in the day, we did have a water fight like we did last year for Sleepyhead Day.

Itsa Gooooood!

I love my brother, Paco. In a lot of ways growing up I wanted to be like him, to do things he was doing. I got into drama because he was doing drama. I learned some balloon animals because he was learning balloon animals. I got into juggling because he was juggling. I'm sure glad I did that because I got to know my husband through a juggling club in college. I've mentioned before that I've videoed myself juggling in different places because I copied my brother with that.

My brother and I definitely have differences and I don't follow him in everything (I don't build skateboards or walking sticks for example). My brother is fun, though, and my kids and my husband also think he is fun. Since we don't see him in person very often, living in different states, we enjoy watching "Paco videos." Every year he puts up a New Year's video on YouTube and we get a kick out of watching those as a family. He has a lot of other random videos and we get a kick out of those, too. Sometimes we even celebrate Paco's birthday... two states away. Sometimes we eat cake, sometimes we put together a little video for him. This year I contacted him while I was working on the menu plan and asked what he would suggest we eat for a Paco-themed birthday dinner. He suggested eating a "Confuso" while wearing fake mustaches. Of course! I told the kids the idea and Jr. Jr. told me we should also get cans of lemonade to "shake gently before opening."
So that's what we did. I spent the day before and the day of preparing ingredients and on Paco's birthday, we followed his instructions to assemble the "Confuso." Then we turned on the "Shake Gently" video and copied Paco's movements while shaking our lemonade.

It was a fun evening and all the kids actually ate the food. "Itsa gooooood!"
I love my brother. It's fun to celebrate his birthday since he is such a fun person.

Stress Ball

Jr. very nicely made his brother a stress ball using flour and balloons. Such a nice brother.
It popped within an hour. Such is life.

Joy Is...

The look of surprise on a little boy's face when his first magic trick works for the first time.

Joy is also a patient and loving big sister who teaches her brother how to do his first magic trick.
