Comedy Date

Jeremy and I went on a date to support friends who were doing a show. Marcus and Dan, both of whom Jeremy goes to fair conventions with. And Marcus, of course, hosts the juggling barbecue most Summers.
Their show was "Funny Guys Who Do Tricks." Dan did comedy magic and Marcus did a comedy juggling stunt show.

It was so great. I loved it and laughed so hard.
On the way home, I told Jeremy, "I need to drink a lot of water when we get home because I'm probably dehydrated from laughing so much."

Since it was Granola Bar Day that day, January 21, when we got home I ate a granola bar.
It was also National Hug Day. I got lots of hugs. I have a loving family.

Monday Night Fun... Jason Fun

Monday, October 3, the kids and I went to see a Jason Fun magic show again. This time it was at the Provo Library. He did some of the same tricks as his show we watched at the Orem Library but he also did some new tricks.

It was great fun... Jason Fun.

Summer Reading Continues

Here is some of what we've been doing with Summer Reading programs for Orem Library and Provo Library, in no particular order:
Provo Story Trails. It has been so much fun to see them fit with the theme of "Oceans of Possibilities"- they have all been water themed.
"How Water Lillies Began" at Lions Park

"The Golden River" at Riverview Park
One of the activities was to take pictures of a body of water and edit them to share on social media. The river along the trail already looked a little golden so I just changed it to make it more so.

"Tokoyo & the Sea Monster" at Rock Canyon Park.
Jet got a huge kick out of watching his brothers roll down the hill.

"Why the Sea Moans" at Spring Creek Park
This park is always so hot when we visit to do Story Trails so we have to make frequent stops in the shade. The kids also got a kick out of the iridescence on this beetle and wanted a picture.

Those last two stories we did while having a busy Summer Reading activity filled day. That same day we also listened to Jr. Jr. read to us from "Treasure Island" along the bank of a river,
hiked to Bridal Veil Falls,
and drove around Utah Lake while listening to a book on CD to get more reading time in.

Jr. stayed up late one night to make monkey bread for Jet (make a gift or treat for someone). Jet's gotten on a kick where almost every time we ask him what he wants to eat he'll say, "Umm... monkey bread."

The kids and I went to the Jason Fun Magic Show at the Orem Library. It was fun entertainment that fit in with the theme. He was so nice and let kids get pictures with him at the end and ask questions.

We tried out a new treat from a cookbook we checked out from the library. It was Rocky Road Popcorn from Sweets & Treats with Six Sisters' Stuff. You know I like Six Sisters' Stuff.

We made crafts from both libraries, all fitting in with the theme.
The boys had a friendly water fight.

We picked up some of our prizes.

We're still going strong with Summer Reading activities. I love it.

Escape Artists

Harry Houdini's Birthday, March 24.  I had Jeremy pick up "I, Houdini" from the library for me.  It's a book about an escape artist hamster who is named after you know who.  I read it when I was a kid.

Jr. had a tooth that decided to be an escape artist this evening, as well.  Jr. told us he had a tooth that was getting really loose and the next thing we knew, he was showing us the tooth in his hand.  I'm guessing later on tonight, the tooth will do a vanishing act and a gold dollar coin will appear in its place.
Jr. was very pleased about getting to use his tooth pillow for the first time.  The first time he lost a tooth I hadn't sewn his pillow yet.  Luckily he lost it at school and got a special tooth necklace to put it in.  This time I was prepared.

Joy Is...

The look of surprise on a little boy's face when his first magic trick works for the first time.

Joy is also a patient and loving big sister who teaches her brother how to do his first magic trick.

Family Home Midday- Talents

I mentioned before that my friend, Serene, was part of a group of blogs that gives monthly challenges for families to spend time together.  May's challenge was "Family Show and Tell Night."
We did this for our Family Home Midday Activity.  So, it wasn't show and tell "night," but it's the same thing.
We had a variety of talents or special "skills" shown.  Jr. did cartwheels and other "gymnastics."
Ta-Da.

Nichole showed how she could balance a balloon and showed some magic tricks.

Jr. Jr. played catch with a balloon and his siblings.

Daddy made a snake with his hands.
Aaaaaaagh.  It's got me!

I showed that I turned Nichole's rainbow pants into rainbow shorts.

It was a good Family Home Midday.

Happy Birthday, Harry Houdini

In honor of Harry Houdini's birthday, March 24, I thought I'd show pictures of some of our magic tricks over the years.

In no particular order...

Jeremy doing a magic show for the Orem Library Summer Reading Program, when we built Wonderland out of balloons.

Nichole the Magnificent and Jr. doing balancing pencil tricks during our Chinese New Year get together with friends.

Now you see it.
Now you don't.
But where has it gone?
Oh, there it is.

Just how long can a balloon animal keep its shape?
Months and months and months if you leave it in one spot and don't touch it.

Nichole the Magnificent and "the ghost box."

Magically making water appear in a vase.

Looking through pictures (I don't have much time to look through pictures right now, especially if I want to get this blog post up today), I couldn't find very many of Jeremy doing his magic shows. A lot of times he's doing it when we're not around, and when we are around, I don't always take pictures.
Nichole has been very interested in learning magic tricks just like Daddy so there has been a lot of that going on in our home lately. Thanks to Jeremy's parents who got her a starting magic set (nose glasses not included).

It turns out my grandma was a magician, too. When Jeremy and I got married, we inherited a lot of things from my grandparents' home. We got a set of picture frames, three hinged together. In the frames were school pictures for two of my brothers and me. This morning, Jr. was taking it down off my dresser and the back of one of the frames slid off. Jeremy looked at the back of the picture where it was labeled. This is what could be heard.
Jeremy: This is when Mommy was in 2nd grade. 7 years old.
Kristin: No way, that picture was when I was in high school.
Jeremy: Wait, this says Kim E.
He slid it out to realize that behind my picture was a picture of my sister when she was in elementary school. Then he realized that in front of that picture was another school picture of me or one of my siblings. Jeremy and the kids pulled out what was in the other frames to find that in each of the three frames there were about five of our school pictures.

I knew we had another set of two frames hinged together so I got that out and slid the back off to find that sure enough, there were stacks of pictures in those frames, too. Apparently when Grandma got new pictures of us to put in the frames, she didn't get rid of the old pictures, she just put the new pictures in front.

So today we found these hidden treasures. Quite a nice trick, don't you think?
And just in time for Harry Houdini's birthday.
