Dinosaur Day

We've been celebrating Dinosaur Day on May 15 for many years. You know I like dinosaurs. According to Google, a more well known Dinosaur Day is June 1, so... we get to celebrate both now. I'm not complaining.
This year on May 15, though, while dropping Jet off at school, he let me know that he didn't want it to be Dinosaur Day (he used to be more into dinosaurs), he wanted it to be Leprechaun Day. I explained to him that Leprechaun Day was two days before that. Sorry we didn't do anything to celebrate that day (May 13). He made it clear that he preferred leprechauns to dinosaurs and I let him know I preferred dinosaurs to leprechauns and it's fine that we prefer different things. He let the teachers/aides know that leprechauns were green and he liked leprechauns. It really is okay for us to like different things.
After dropping him off, Nichole and I went for a walk to Bridal Veil Falls. We took binoculars and cameras so it ended up being a lot longer walk than it usually is.
Earlier that week, I either walked by myself or Nichole and I walked to the falls, got our selfies, and walked back. Every time I thought, I should really bring camera and binoculars. So many yellow warblers and other birds but mostly yellow warblers. When I told Jeremy the time before this, I really need to bring camera and binoculars, he commented, I thought you were already planning to. Yeah, but I finally did on Dinosaur Day.
Nichole and I listened to Weird Al Yankovic's "Jurassic Park" on the drive there then got to try out my new selfie stick tripod at the falls. Note my shirt.

On the walk back, we saw lots of birds. Some posed for us and we even spotted a nest with a bird who kept flying away then coming back to it. I'm pretty sure it was a Warbling Vireo.

I love birds.
This Song Sparrow posed for us so nicely. It even sang for us.

You know that part in the first Jurassic Park movie where the power's been off at the compound so two of the characters are eating melting ice cream while having a discussion. Nichole and I continued to celebrate Dinosaur Day by eating ice cream later on.
That night, Jet wore dinosaur pajamas.

While we're talking about holidays, "On the 15th of May, in the Jungle of Nool..." we discussed watching Horton Hears a Who but remembered that our DVD of it doesn't work the best. Sigh.
We celebrated National Pizza Party Day. I made dough, Nichole rolled it out, Jr. put the toppings on. Teamwork for International Day of Families.
It was also National Chocolate Chip Day so I ate some chocolate chips throughout the day.
Celebrating lots of holidays is fun!

Catching Up March 2025 part 2

We still had sickness going through our home in March so our celebrating was sporadic even with things we would have definitely celebrated in the past.

March 6 was the birthday of the Oreo cookie. We ended up spreading our Oreo celebrating over several days so it didn't all happen on March 6. I did make sure to listen to Weird Al's "The White Stuff" that day. Other things we did to celebrate:
Had Oreo Puffs cereal for breakfast
Had birthday cake Oreos
Had Oreo frosting on chocolate graham crackers

March 7 was National Tartar Sauce Day so we had fish sticks with tartar sauce.

March 9 was Popcorn Lover's Day. Some people had popcorn. It was also Get Over It Day and Meatball Day so of course the phrase, "Get over it, you meatball," was used frequently.

March 10 was Mario Day (Mar10) of course. we watched The Super Mario Bros. Movie. That's a fun movie. Jet loves it and requests to watch it from time to time. It is yet another movie that I don't mind putting on for him because it doesn't annoy me and I don't get sick of it.

March 12 was the day Moana 2 came to Disney Plus so we ate Hawaiian Haystacks and started watching it (finished it another day). Personal opinion: it's not as good as the first movie and I prefer the Mario movie we watched a couple days before. It's fun to find reasons to celebrate, though.

March 14 was Pi Day. I made apple pie. I love apple pie.
Notice Nichole's PIESS shirt. Since March 14 is also Potato Chip Day, we taste tested a new to us flavor of potato chips. All Dressed. It wasn't that impressive as you can tell by the picture.

March 15 was the Ides of March. We did not celebrate like we normally do with Caesar salad and Orange Juliuses but we told each other to, "Beware the Ides of March." Jeremy and I went for a walk that day, though. I absolutely love spending time with my husband.

More Traditions

March 6 was National Frozen Food Day. For dinner we had chicken cordon bleu casserole that we had frozen a few months ago. I took some pinto beans from the freezer and made them into refried beans. We had lil' smokies in the freezer. We heated those up with BBQ sauce.. We steamed frozen broccoli. We drank ice water.
Yes, we know how to celebrate.
Earlier a few family members had root beer floats with ice cream that came from the freezer.
We love finding reasons to celebrate.
March 6 was also the birthday of the Oreo cookie. Early in the day, Lucky and I listened to Weird Al's "The White Stuff." Jeremy bought some more Oreos (we already had birthday cake Oreos at home) but we didn't eat them until the next day.
We had Oreos and I made rice crispy treats which we ate on National Cereal Day, March 7.
Then as is tradition for Cereal Day, Jeremy and the boys made cheese and pickle sandwiches
I went to a Relief Society Birthday Fiesta with a group of gals where we listened to Reyna Aburto speak then had dinner and entertainment by Somos Bolivia Group.
That was a fun time with those gals. (draw your own conclusions why...)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What really happened

(yet another one of Lucky's conclusions)
(based on a true story)

Once we made it to "Birthday Fiesta" the real partying happened. We grabbed a handful of peach cobbler and threw it at Reyna Aburto. Then Reyna threw it at someone else and then on and on. Once the food fight was over we took out a pinata and smacked it with a baseball bat that someone provided once the pinata broke out spilled little house elves that cleaned up the whole stake center. After the house elves cleaned up the stake center they announced it was the end and to exit out specific doors. When walking through those doors the house elves cleaned you up and made sure there was no sign of anything happening other than a nice quiet evening.

Submarines and Head Banging

April 11 was National Submarine Day. I made sub sandwiches with shredded pork and nacho cheese.

It was also International Louie Louie Day. For some reason the kids weren't getting my unintelligible singing. I had to put on the song, "Louie Louie," for them to hear. That got Jeremy mentioning another unintelligent song, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. So I put that song on then "Smells Like Nirvana" by Weird Al. And of course I couldn't listen to those songs without head banging.

A few days later, I was wondering if I had slept on my neck wrong because I couldn't figure out why it was so sore. Then I remembered. Head banging. Whiplash. Hmm.

Bastille Day 2021

For Bastille Day on July 14, we watched a Sandra Boynton video of a cat singing a song in French about hoping you don't understand French and saying some silly things in that language. So funny.
Yo Yo Ma played cello for it. Michael Ford (who has collaborated with Sandra Boynton quite a bit with her music) played piano. A little bit of accordion was also thrown in by Weird Al Yankovic. Love it.

July 14 is also Mac & Cheese Day. I made some.
It is also Shark Awareness Day so of course I had to dress Jet in some shark clothes. What a cutie. It's that Sharks and Jets thing again.

Waffles and Spinach and Scribbles, Oh My

March 25 was International Waffle Day. I made waffles and listened to Weird Al's "Waffle King."

March 26 was National Spinach Day. I planned to make spinach lasagna. I got a good start and was so proud of myself for cooking the spinach early. Then I realized we didn't have any cottage cheese which was called for in the recipe. Sigh. I also got an early start and made more French bread to make into garlic bread to go along with the lasagna. I am loving this French bread recipe.
So I fixed something else for the kids (with garlic bread on the side), Jeremy picked up some cottage cheese on his way home, and I had everything ready to go when he brought it to me. So a few of us had spinach lasagna (with garlic bread on the side) late at night but we still had it.
March 26 was also Make Up Your Own Holiday Day, but I was so focused on the lasagna thing, I didn't think about that. Later, the kids tried to convince me to let them play video games on their devices to go with Make Up Your Own Holiday Day (Mom, it's Triforce Heroes Day) but I wouldn't give in.
Instead I gave in the next day. After I helped Jeremy set up a balloon dino-gnome sculpture at Thanksgiving Point for Dino Day,
I rested a little, the kids and I got some things done at home, including fun,
and some haircuts,
then later I let the boys play on their devices for Make Up Your Own Holiday Day (Observed) in the van. "Yay. Triforce Heroes Day."

We also ate more sloppy joes for National Joe Day on March 27 and Jet scribbled on a primary coloring page for National Scribble Day also on March 27.

Happy Birthday Once Again, Oreo

It's that time again. March 6 is the Oreo Cookie's birthday and we've again got a baby just the right age for celebrating by dancing to Weird Al's "The White Stuff" with the family while wearing... the slug outfit. Jr. Jr. wore it when we celebrated in 2012. Lucky wore it when we celebrated in 2015. Jet wore it tonight when we celebrated in 2021. Aren't traditions fun? We also ate Oreos.

March 6 is also National Dentist's Day so we also danced to the song "Be a Dentist" from Little Shop of Horrors. Earlier in the day I was listening to a show where a character said, "I've heard stories of your dead disappearing." What I heard was, "I've heard stories of your dentist appearing." Heh Heh.

Happy Celebrating!

Oreo Adventures

The kids had a day off of school yesterday so we loaded everyone in the van and headed out to look for a particular bird.  And we found it.
Juniper Titmouse

When we stopped to get everyone lunch, we got out the Oreos we brought with us since March 6 is the birthday of the Oreo cookie.  We only opened the red velvet Oreos, though.  We'll save the others for another time.

While we were driving around, the kids got to watch Wreck It Ralph, which has a scene with Oreos.  They also got to watch Horton Hears a Who, which has a scene with the mayor at the dentist.  March 6 is also Dentist's Day.

We saw lots of other birds while we were out as well as lots and lots and lots and lots of prairie dogs.
On the way home I celebrated by singing along to some Weird Al- "The White Stuff" (about Oreos) and "Cavity Search" (about visiting the dentist).
Jr. pointed out the bird in these last pictures.  Silly Goose.

Today, March 7, is Cereal Day.  We ate cereal for dinner.

Happy Birthday Again, Oreo

Three years ago on March 6, we celebrated the Oreo cookie's 100th birthday.  We ate Oreos and danced to Weird Al's "The White Stuff."
There was a picture on that blog post of Jr. Jr. wearing a certain outfit.  It's an outfit that Lucky fits into now, so I put it on Lucky today for celebrating so I could get a comparison picture.
Isn't that fun?
We again ate Oreos and danced to "The White Stuff."  We also watched Peter Hollens singing an Oreo song on his youtube channel.
Fun.
Today is also my brother-in-law's birthday so the kids decided to start calling him Uncle Oreo.  Heh Heh.

Argyle Elvis

January 8 is Argyle Day.  January 8 is also Elvis' Birthday.  Jeremy and I were trying to figure out how to celebrate these two holidays.  I mentioned that I've been watching a lot of movies lately.  The closest thing we have to an Elvis movie is Lilo & Stitch.  Jr. Jr. watched that movie today while I took a nap.
For Argyle Day, I realized we don't have any Scottish movies.  We have several Irish movies, but not Scottish movies.  And the weather was not the kind of weather to run to the library to pick up Brigadoon or something today.
Jeremy did find a music video on youtube about argyle socks.  We watched that.
While Jr. was doing a homework project of decorating a snowman picture, I joked that he should give his snowman argyle socks.  It didn't happen.
And now as I finish this blog post, I'm listening to Weird Al's song, "Velvet Elvis."
