Dinosaur Day

We've been celebrating Dinosaur Day on May 15 for many years. You know I like dinosaurs. According to Google, a more well known Dinosaur Day is June 1, so... we get to celebrate both now. I'm not complaining.
This year on May 15, though, while dropping Jet off at school, he let me know that he didn't want it to be Dinosaur Day (he used to be more into dinosaurs), he wanted it to be Leprechaun Day. I explained to him that Leprechaun Day was two days before that. Sorry we didn't do anything to celebrate that day (May 13). He made it clear that he preferred leprechauns to dinosaurs and I let him know I preferred dinosaurs to leprechauns and it's fine that we prefer different things. He let the teachers/aides know that leprechauns were green and he liked leprechauns. It really is okay for us to like different things.
After dropping him off, Nichole and I went for a walk to Bridal Veil Falls. We took binoculars and cameras so it ended up being a lot longer walk than it usually is.
Earlier that week, I either walked by myself or Nichole and I walked to the falls, got our selfies, and walked back. Every time I thought, I should really bring camera and binoculars. So many yellow warblers and other birds but mostly yellow warblers. When I told Jeremy the time before this, I really need to bring camera and binoculars, he commented, I thought you were already planning to. Yeah, but I finally did on Dinosaur Day.
Nichole and I listened to Weird Al Yankovic's "Jurassic Park" on the drive there then got to try out my new selfie stick tripod at the falls. Note my shirt.

On the walk back, we saw lots of birds. Some posed for us and we even spotted a nest with a bird who kept flying away then coming back to it. I'm pretty sure it was a Warbling Vireo.

I love birds.
This Song Sparrow posed for us so nicely. It even sang for us.

You know that part in the first Jurassic Park movie where the power's been off at the compound so two of the characters are eating melting ice cream while having a discussion. Nichole and I continued to celebrate Dinosaur Day by eating ice cream later on.
That night, Jet wore dinosaur pajamas.

While we're talking about holidays, "On the 15th of May, in the Jungle of Nool..." we discussed watching Horton Hears a Who but remembered that our DVD of it doesn't work the best. Sigh.
We celebrated National Pizza Party Day. I made dough, Nichole rolled it out, Jr. put the toppings on. Teamwork for International Day of Families.
It was also National Chocolate Chip Day so I ate some chocolate chips throughout the day.
Celebrating lots of holidays is fun!

Here's Some More Catching Up

May 13 was Leprechaun Day, Crouton Day, Fruit Cocktail Day, and Apple Pie Day. Guess what. We celebrated.
Ah, homemade croutons and homemade apple pie. Mmmmmm.

Besides given ourselves "gold" coins for Leprechaun Day, we also turned on Irish music and had some fun moving to the music.
Lucky decided to use his fruit to make a kebab. Why not?

May 14 was Dance Like a Chicken Day and Buttermilk Biscuit Day. We made Biscuits and "Gragy" from Shelf Cooking 101 by Jordan Page.
Of course we danced like chickens.

May 15 was Dinosaur Day, National Chocolate Chip Day, and International Day of Families. We had Dino nuggets and chocolate chip pancakes with our family.
I also got out for a walk that morning with a friend I haven't been able to do anything with for a while.

St. Patrick's Day 2022

Lucky Charms came up with a fun promotional thing. Leprechaun traps on the back of their boxes. I bought one just for that because we don't always have time to make a leprechaun trap. We forgot to cut it out the day before St. Patrick's Day. There was milk in a pitcher that ended up green St. Patrick's Day morning because of that. I used it to make muffins to go along with our dinner though you couldn't really tell when the batter got all mixed together.
For dinner we had leprechaun sized food. It's been a while since we did that but several family members helped come up with ideas for what to make.
Li'l smokies on homemade mini buns for mini hot dogs. Jeremy suggested I make mini hot dog buns while I was making hamburger buns. Baby carrots and baby corn made to look like mini corn on the cob. Sweet mini peppers. Mandarin oranges because they're mini oranges. Mini muffins with mini chocolate chips. Jeremy brought home mini Sprite for us to eat with the other leprechaun sized food.

That night I watched Darby O'Gill and the Little People since I had to be be up with Jet anyway. I love that movie. Classic.

Rapid Fire Catching Up

9:05 am- O.K.  How fast can I catch up on what's been going on?  We've had a bunch of stresses so I'm not going to talk about everything.  Here's what I will say:
March 14- Pi Day.  I didn't get up my YouTube video of Lucky and ZZ making a pie.  I'll eventually get it up.  I did work on a balloon sculpture.  It was a circle.  That fit in with Pi day.

March 15- Ides of March.  We ate Little Caesar's pizza.  That works, right?

March 17- St. Patrick's Day.  Nichole and I wore green and went to see my niece play Wendy in her school play of "Peter Pan."  She did a great job.

For dinner that night, we ate leprechaun-sized food.
March 20- First Day of Spring.  We had a nice spring salad to eat.

March 23- Neighborhood Culture Night.  Jeremy represented Hungary.

There were pinatas.
March 25- International Waffle Day.  Yes, that's what we ate.

March 31- General Conference.  Nichole and I got up really early in the morning to pick up a friend and got to a lek to see the sage grouse displaying.
At home we watched General Conference and ate nachos.

April 2- National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day.  We ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches then had an Easter Egg hunt and colored eggs with friends.

April 4- Walk Around Things Day.  We did our short-eared owl survey and walked around the van to look for birds.
April 5- First Contact Day.  Jeremy and I watched the Star Trek movie, "First Contact."  I didn't take pictures.
April 8- Draw a Picture of a Bird Day.  I can't find the picture of the birds that were drawn that day, but here's one Nichole did another day.  It was again based on a photo we took.

Besides these specific holidays, there were also birding trips, balloon twisting, and somewhere in there, Nichole had an orchestra festival and Jr. was Jack B. Nimble in his school play, "Law and Order: Nursery Rhymes Unit."

I know you don't find peacocks in the wild in Utah, but Jeremy and I were driving along and saw these and wanted to take pictures.

Oh, and go see our balloon sculptures at the Tulip Festival going on right now at Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point.  New sculptures every week.
So there.  Rapid fire catching up. -10:22am.

St. Patrick's Day 2017

Apparently, leprechauns struck our home today.  Nichole couldn't find a certain book.  None of us could find one of Lucky's boots.  We had no time because we had to walk the kids to school.  So Lucky walked in one boot and one church shoe to and from the school.  Sigh.
Later, we found where the leprechaun had hidden Lucky's other boot (never did find Nichole's book) and Lucky noticed that the leprechaun got stuff on his boot.  I would have thought it was just from the blackberries that he and Jr. Jr. spilled the other day, but Lucky was convinced it was the leprechaun.
So Jr. Jr. designed and built a leprechaun trap with a little help from his family.
He did a really good job.  It was similar to one we made in 2012 with the ladder, but instead of having a spot on the top for the leprechaun to fall in, the leprechaun had to actually jumped down onto the loose paper that would make him slip through to the bottom of the box.  Jr. Jr. put a lot of work into it.
On a related note: Jr. couldn't help himself.  He had a desire and was finally given permission to draw mustaches on the faces of the chocolate coin wrappers.
I love those kids.
