Catching Up January 2025 part 2

In 2024 both Nichole and Lucky got out for a lot of birding with us, so Jeremy and I took them to the Golden Corral for the annual Utah County Birders dinner there in January 2025. Both Jeremy and I earned Bronze level for the 2024 challenge so we each picked a pair of earrings. Jeremy gave his to Nichole and I kept mine- owls.

Another day, Jeremy, Nichole, and I went to the kickoff event for Orem Library's 2025 Adult Reading Challenge.
January 12 was National Sunday Supper Day and National Curried Chicken Day so for Sunday supper, we had coconut curry chicken and some sort of rice from "A Season of Family Meal Plans," and bread.
We ate dinner early enough that we were able to go over to our friend's for banana splits.
I love these gals. One is my ministering sister and one Jeremy ministers to and it just so happens that we're already friends.

January 13 was National Rubber Ducky Day. There were a lot of rubber duckies in our home that wanted to be involved in things.
That night, Orem Library had a Winnie-the-Pooh Day event (Winnie-the-Pooh Day is on January 18). Jet, Lucky, Jr. Jr., and I went.
It was definitely catered toward Jet's age group with crafts and activities and stories.

January 14 was Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day. Some of the family members look forward to grilled pastrami and cheese sandwiches for this holiday. We enjoyed them.

January 15 was National Bagel Day. I didn't think we had bagels until I was looking through my pictures to do this post.
Me: Wait. We had bagels on National Bagel Day?
Jeremy: Yeah. Didn't you make some?
Me (bewildered): Yes, I did.
We had toasted bagels and hot chocolate with fried rice. Mmmm.

January 16 was Appreciate a Dragon Day. Nichole usually draws pictures of dragons that day but she was working on another project so she appreciated a dragon she already had.

January 17 was Hot Heads Chili Day. We made chili.

January 18, besides being Winnie-the-Pooh Day, was National Thesaurus Day. We talked about dinosaur related stuff for "The Saurus Day."

Chocolate Ice Cream Day 2024

Two of our kids got wisdom teeth pulled so we had to figure out soft things for them to eat. Well, June 7 was Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Ice cream is soft food. We had vanilla ice cream, we had chocolate syrup. I told everyone they could celebrate whatever way worked for them. I personally made my treat into a banana split.

June 8 was Name Your Poison Day. We missed it but Nichole celebrated it observed the next day. She started listing different types of poisons she's studied. Polonium, foxglove, hemlock, strychnine, cyanide, arsenic, aconite (also known as monkshood or wolfsbane- you can learn that from Harry Potter). Interestingly, Nichole can name more actual poisons than alcoholic beverages which is where the saying, "Name your poison," came from. I'm okay with that as long as she doesn't put either to use in real life.
You may be wondering why Nichole would know so many poisons. Well... you know we are a family of readers. We are also a family of writers. Nichole is interested in learning about writing mysteries. Many mysteries deal with murder and one way to kill someone is with poison. So... she had been learning about poisons and lately she's been learning about forensics because mysteries should also be solved. It's interesting to look at the books we check out from the public libraries. Anything from Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to A Guide to Forensics.

Banana Splits!

August 25 was National Banana Split Day.

I love it when after school snack is figured out for me already. Well, I mean, I did have to know it was coming up and I did have to buy bananas and Jeremy bought ice cream, so we planned ahead. But still, I didn't have to think, "Now what can my kids have when they get home from school?"

Now if I can only convince them that vegetables dipped in Ranch are an acceptable after school snack, that would open up more possibilities.

Weekdays of Celebrating

Now that we're transitioning back to school, our celebrating has simplified. There's not time to do as much. So here are a few things we were able to fit in the second week of school.

Monday, August 23 was Gene Kelly's birthday. The kids wanted to watch Singin' in the Rain but their wasn't time that day. It was also National Sponge Cake Day. Jeremy bought us chocolate twinkies but there wasn't time for those either. There was time a couple days later so people got to eat twinkies while watching Singin' in the Rain.

Tuesday, August 24, was National Waffle Day and Vesuvius Day. One of the kids suggested we have an explosion of syrup on our waffles. Heh Heh Heh. I opened the syrup carefully to see if it exploded before we put it on our waffles.

Wednesday, August 25, was National Banana Split Day. The kids got to have banana splits for after school snack.

Thursday, August 26, was Dog Day. We had squid pups again.

Friday, August 27, was Banana Lovers Day. Yep. More banana eating.

Matt Smith's Chocolate

October 28 was National Chocolate Day. We had Family Home Evening and had banana splits using chocolate ice cream for the treat.
We also found out that October 28 is Matt Smith's birthday so after the younger two went to bed, Nichole, Jr., Dad, and I put on an episode of Doctor Who. I think I actually stayed awake this time.
And since I didn't take any pictures of the fun we had that night, here are some pictures from earlier in the day when the trees were dropping leaves and Lucky was trying to catch them. So cute.

Family Home Evening

For Family Home Evening this week, Jr. Jr. requested banana splits.  Yummm.
For our activity, we went to the Orem Library where Scera Acting Up was putting on Alice in Wonderland, Jr.  It was quite enjoyable.
Now all the kids are happy to have their noses in their books while waiting for programs to start.

On our way home, we could see that someone was shooting off fireworks to celebrate Chinese New Year.  We drove right by the lot they were setting them off from and when we got home we could still see them from the driveway.

National Banana Split Day 2017

August 25 was National Banana Split Day.  Guess what we ate?

A friend of mine said for this holiday she did banana splits for breakfast- she used yogurt instead of ice cream.  Ah ha.  Bananas, yogurt, berries, with a little whipped cream and sprinkles on top.  I'm going to have to try that.  Yumm.
We ate our banana splits for dessert after dinner.

FHE Treat- Banana Splits

August 25 is National Banana Split Day.  Yeah, it wasn't hard to convince Jr. Jr. what we should have for Family Home Evening Treat.  He was in charge of the treat this week.
He was a little confused when I took half a banana, split it open, and said, "Here you go.  A banana split."  Especially since the ice cream was right there on the table.  He handled it well, though.  I could tell he was about to fuss then he composed himself and asked, "Can I have ice cream, too?"
What a cutie.
He did get the ice cream and toppings on his split banana.
