Balloon Bonding

Real quick- August 22 was Be an Angel Day. It's become tradition to have angel hair pasta that day with alfredo sauce and chicken. Yumm.

Now to what I really wanted to blog about.

Every year, Jeremy volunteers to build a balloon sculpture in the children's section of the Orem Library for the Summer Reading Program. He's been doing it for over 15 years. This year, because of construction, they didn't have him do that. He and Lucky did teach simple balloon animals at the Kid's Art Gala and in August, they built a balloon sculpture to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the children's wing of the library.

I'm very impressed with how Lucky is picking up the balloon sculpting. He built the number 30 and the hat. Way to go both Jeremy and Lucky. I love that Lucky's getting into this and they are getting to have this bonding time together.

Since they were building on Gene Kelly's Birthday on August 23, when I went to deliver some missed items to them (I'm also a helper), I found Lucky dancing around to celebrate.
Later to also celebrate Gene Kelly's Birthday, I wore my bow earrings and pirate ship necklace and we watched "The Pirate" which Gene Kelly was in with Judy Garland.

That evening, we went to an end of the Summer neighborhood barbecue. I had a great time socializing. I love our neighborhood.

More August Holidays

There was more to celebrate in August.
Be an Angel Day was on August 22. It's become tradition to have angel hair pasta with alfredo sauce for that holiday. We did along with chicken drumsticks and salad.
Jet is such a ham, he kept reaching over for my pasta when he had his own on his plate. Silly goose.

Gene Kelly's birthday was on August 23. We watched Brigadoon and danced around to the songs.

National Waffle Day was on August 24. Guess what. We ate waffles.

Jr.'s birthday was also in August. He put the candles on his own cake. Tee Hee.
When Nichole turned 16, we dumped a bag of 16 sweets on her for her "sweet 16." We did the same for Jr. He was surprised. He didn't realize we were actually going to give him 16 sweets.

This one doesn't fit in with the other celebrations but Jr. Jr. decided to do orchestra like his older siblings. He picked yet another new instrument- viola.

Weekdays of Celebrating

Now that we're transitioning back to school, our celebrating has simplified. There's not time to do as much. So here are a few things we were able to fit in the second week of school.

Monday, August 23 was Gene Kelly's birthday. The kids wanted to watch Singin' in the Rain but their wasn't time that day. It was also National Sponge Cake Day. Jeremy bought us chocolate twinkies but there wasn't time for those either. There was time a couple days later so people got to eat twinkies while watching Singin' in the Rain.

Tuesday, August 24, was National Waffle Day and Vesuvius Day. One of the kids suggested we have an explosion of syrup on our waffles. Heh Heh Heh. I opened the syrup carefully to see if it exploded before we put it on our waffles.

Wednesday, August 25, was National Banana Split Day. The kids got to have banana splits for after school snack.

Thursday, August 26, was Dog Day. We had squid pups again.

Friday, August 27, was Banana Lovers Day. Yep. More banana eating.

Gene Kelly Kind of a Weekend

Saturday, August 22, was Be an Angel Day. I made our traditional alfredo with angel hair pasta. I didn't take pictures.
Nichole turned on Singin' in the Rain while she was doing dishes. I also didn't get a picture.
Sunday, August 23, was Gene Kelly's birthday. I didn't get any pictures of us singing songs from Singin' in the Rain but I did get pictures of my diner plate of a new recipe I tried in the crockpot- jalapeno chicken. Yumm. The garden fresh tomatoes from the couple who minister to us were so good, too. I love garden fresh tomatoes.

Monday, August 24, was National Waffle Day. We made waffles and tried out another new recipe for mozzarella stick waffles. Also yumm.
The kids finished watching Singin' in the Rain while doing dishes.
It was a Gene Kelly kind of a weekend.

Dance Party!

To celebrate Gene Kelly's birthday, August 23, and to celebrate surviving the first week of school, after school we had a dance party.
Good exercise... and fun.

It was also kind of rainy today, so when Jr. Jr. and I picked up the older kids from school, we got to do a tiny bit of singing in the rain.  It was just sprinkling at the time, but we still had fun.
