See You Later, Alligator

Jeremy left on another trip the beginning of October. It was a quick trip. He had a one day balloon build in Wyoming, but he missed a few things while traveling and building.
There was the Grand Lunch at the elementary school. It is supposed to be like a grandparents sort of lunch but not everybody has grandparents near enough so the elementary school invites anyone "grand" in your life to come. I think that's sweet.
I noticed a while back that when Lucky brings a lunch from home, he writes part of "The Jabberwocky" on the outside of his lunch bag. He went through the whole poem and finished it the day of the Grand Lunch.
Since I want to be like my kids, I thought I'd join in and wrote part of a poem (from my elementary school days) on my lunch bag that day. Tee Hee.
(I did miss celebrating Shel Silverstein's Birthday on September 25 due to being sick.)
When it was time for Jet's lunch, I came over to join him and he got so excited to see me there, he was giggling. Awwww. I like that reaction. It makes me feel good when my children want to see and be with me. He asked if Daddy was there but I had to remind him that Daddy was on his trip.
That evening was Lucky's parent teacher conference with his teacher. Jeremy joined in on speakerphone as he was not physically able to be with us.
October 1 was Fire Pup Day so Lucky helped me make squid pups which we had with hot sauce.
When Jeremy got back from his trip, he made it home before the kids went to school, so he went when Jet asked him to take him to school.
After school, Jeremy was busy getting ready for another trip, so when Jet came out of school, the first thing he did when he gave me a big hug, because that's our ritual after school, was ask, "Where is my Dad?" What a sweetie. He wants both parents.
That night I made curry because... comfort food. I wanted something welcoming for Jeremy. We had homemade sourdough on the side because... I'm learning.

National Dog Day 2022

Wow. A lot of people were celebrating National Dog Day on August 26. I saw several pictures of people's dogs online. Way to celebrate, people.

Since I don't have a dog, I celebrated by eating them... dogs... hot dogs... in squid pup form.

It is a very unattractive picture because I tore my piece of french bread into pieces and put jam on all the pieces and they kind of took over the plate. But I don't care. I celebrated National Dog Day. Yumm.

Squid Cookies

October 1 was Fire Pup Day. Lucky suggested we have squid pups with hot sauce, "Fire Pup," but I forgot about the hot sauce so we didn't have that part. Nichole did, however, make peanut butter cookies for Homemade Cookies Day.

We use a recipe from The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner, peanut butter cookies with kisses, but we always just use chocolate melties as we always have those on hand and chocolate kisses would just get eaten up too fast. It works.

There's a recipe on The Food Nanny website for peanut butter cookies with Reeses which is the same recipe as in the book just using peanut butter cups instead of kisses (or melties). You can use whatever you like. This is our go to cookie recipe when we want to make cookies right now. Everybody likes them and they're small enough you can eat a lot or just a few (and freeze the rest for a snack later on).

Weekdays of Celebrating

Now that we're transitioning back to school, our celebrating has simplified. There's not time to do as much. So here are a few things we were able to fit in the second week of school.

Monday, August 23 was Gene Kelly's birthday. The kids wanted to watch Singin' in the Rain but their wasn't time that day. It was also National Sponge Cake Day. Jeremy bought us chocolate twinkies but there wasn't time for those either. There was time a couple days later so people got to eat twinkies while watching Singin' in the Rain.

Tuesday, August 24, was National Waffle Day and Vesuvius Day. One of the kids suggested we have an explosion of syrup on our waffles. Heh Heh Heh. I opened the syrup carefully to see if it exploded before we put it on our waffles.

Wednesday, August 25, was National Banana Split Day. The kids got to have banana splits for after school snack.

Thursday, August 26, was Dog Day. We had squid pups again.

Friday, August 27, was Banana Lovers Day. Yep. More banana eating.

What They Missed- August 4

Wednesday, August 4-
Good morning.

Jeremy said the kids were a huge help with the balloons.
He also let me know those two were working on a juggling routine when they had some down time. Oh, it's been so long since I've put together a juggling routine. Jeremy, my brother Paco, and I used to do routines together when we were part of the juggling club in college. Good times. Good memories.
At home, or not at home, the boys and I went for a picnic at a park and walked around for just a little bit.

We made chocolate chip cookies (at home) and ate some for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. We used the same recipe from The Food Nanny that Lucky used last year to make cookies on that holiday.
It was National Coast Guard Day so we made squid pups to eat with dinner. It's amazing how picky eating goes. Lucky won't eat hot dogs but he will devour squid pups.
The boys also talked me into letting them watch Kiki's Delivery Service since the city she's in is by the sea.
And they made a fort(?) on the couch.

National Kazoo Day

Today is National Kazoo Day.
We had squid pups for dinner.
Those statements are not related, but Lucky wanted to show his person he made out of hot dog and spaghetti.

In another completely unrelated statement, a very wonderful and helpful birder took me out today to find my current (not anymore) nemesis bird.  Thanks, Suzi.  Not only did we find a northern pygmy owl, but we found three.
Trust me. There is an owl in these pictures.  Pygmy owls are just teeny things.  Can you spot it?
Click on the pictures to see them larger.

It was a wonderful morning/afternoon and just what I needed.
