Did We Celebrate That?

Sometimes I take pictures of our celebrations and sometimes I don't. Then if I don't write anything down about it and I'm too busy to blog until much later, I don't remember if we actually went through with our plans. Oh well. Here are some things in June we may or may not have celebrated.

Saturday, June 5, was Veggie Burger Day. We had plans to make black bean burgers and I think we did because I remember there being cut up lettuce and onion and tomatoes in the fridge. I think it happened on that day. Maybe.

Monday, June 7, was Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Jeremy brought home chocolate ice cream but I don't think we had any that day. I know we had some the next day.

Wednesday, June 9, was Johnny Depp's Birthday. I do know that while the older kids were gone, Jr. Jr. and Lucky got to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Jeremy also gave them treats. Things were too busy that night so the older kids had to wait until later to watch one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Thursday, June 10, was Black Cow Day. The kids had root beer floats and I had ice cream with chocolate syrup in it. I don't know why I did that. I must have had a reason at the time. It was also Egg Roll Day. We had egg rolls a couple times in May/June. I don't remember if that was one of them.

Friday, June 11, was King Kamehameha I Day. We ate Hawaiian haystacks.

Sunday, June 13, was Kitchen Klutzes of America Day. The kids made dinner. They helped each other make sloppy joes and pull-apart bread. Anything else? Apparently Nichole had a root beer float according to the picture. Did other people? Who knows?

Monday, June 14, was Flag Day. It was also Pop Goes the Weasel Day. We drank soda pop and went to the park. I tried to get a picture of the kids with the flag like I did on Memorial Day. I tried.

Tuesday, June 15, was Nature Photography Day. We went to a park. Nichole didn't get as many pictures of birds as she wanted but there were lots of bugs and plants.

Wednesday, June 16, was Captain Picard Day. We decided to have cream soda and ginger ale because we wouldn't have anything to do with Romulan Ale. Lucky accidentally spilled mustard on "Daddy" so I put him through the wash a couple times. His head came out like Captain Picard's.

Thursday, June 17, was Apple Strudel Day. I was going to make apple strudel. I didn't.

Friday, June 18, was National Splurge Day so we had Winco pizza and I made cherry cheesecake from a box again.

Saturday, June 19, was Garfield the Cat Day. I had good intentions to make lasagna. I didn't. Jeremy reassured me by saying, "It makes more sense that we didn't have lasagna. Garfield would have eaten it all."

We may or may not have celebrated other things.

Spring Break- Thursday and Friday

Here's the fun we had on Thursday. Dentist appointment for two of the kids. Can that be considered fun?
We also watched another movie.

Friday, the kids and I drove around certain parts of Provo looking at murals on the sides of buildings. Then we went to throw rocks in the Provo River. We brought "Daddy" and Flat Stanley again.

Next time I need to make sure we don't watch parkour videos before heading out. Oh, Jr. Some of his jumping around was fun.

Some of it... not so much.
"My foot got stuck."

And some of it was hilarious. Ha Ha Ha Ha.

As April 9 was National Unicorn Day, we watched a unicorn on the other side of the fence near where we were playing.

Then we went home to watch yet another movie.
So that is the end of blogging about Spring Break Monday through Friday.

Spring Break- Monday and Tuesday

For Spring Break I explained to the kids that we can do cleaning in the morning, get some outside time in the afternoon, and watch a movie in the evening. Simple enough, right? Um... yeah. Sure.
When dealing with multiple people who have their own interests or ways of doing things and weather that doesn't always cooperate and a mom who wants to fit holiday celebrating into the activities, sometimes things don't go exactly right. The kids and I planned out our week and... we adapted.
So this is the fun we did have on Monday and Tuesday (because I'm guessing you don't care as much about what cleaning we did):
Monday, the kids and I went for a drive. While we drove, Jr. had us play a game. One person calls out a word on a sign (since we were in the middle of the city for a while, it worked out). Whatever letter that word ends in, another person calls out a word they see on a sign that begins with that letter. You can't call out two words in a row, you have to wait until someone else finds a word before you can do it again. It was pretty fun until we reached "DQ." We were not on a road with a Quick Quack Car Wash, which would have made it simple, so we had to wait until after our outing to continue the game when we did pass a Quick Quack Car Wash on the way home.

Our outing? We drove up to Big Springs Park and played frisbee. We had "Daddy" there with us as well as Flat Stanley who came home with Lucky for Spring Break.

After we got home we did get to watch a movie.
Since April 5 was Gold Star Spouse's Day, I printed out a gold star to put on Jeremy's shirt when he got home.
He is a most terrific spouse. When I'm in the middle of writing a blog post, if I step away (which often happens- Mom, here), some of my kids will sometimes come in and add "My husband is awesome." See, they know it. Sometimes I leave it in. Sometimes I take it out (my husband is still awesome, though) if it really doesn't fit what I was writing right then. So if you're reading my blog and a random "My husband is awesome" is in a blog post, my kids probably wrote it and it's true.
I didn't realize it but while I was making dinner that night, Jr. came up and put a gold star on my back. Aww. What a sweetie.

Tuesday, it snowed. We didn't get out like we planned. I did make a quick trip to the Provo Library to pick up some things that were being held for us. April 6 was Library Workers Day. See my post from March 25 of this year to read my opinion on library workers.
April 6 was also National Carbonara Day. I did make carbornara with French bread on the side.
April 6 was also the anniversary of the invention of the Twinkie but I totally forgot to get out the Twinkies to celebrate.

Where Did It Go?

Jeremy got rid of his beard. When Jet saw him, he was a little concerned. I don't think he's ever seen him without a beard. After a while of hearing Dad's voice coming out of this beardless face, it looked as if Jet was looking for the missing beard, touching Dad's face and looking around for it.
Where did it go?
Eventually he got distracted by a button on Dad's shirt and seemed to accept Jeremy. He's still Daddy, no matter what facial hair he has.

Catching Up on the Last Five Months- 2

From Oregon, the kids and I then headed to Washington to visit Jeremy's parents.
When we got there, the kids were content to look at books and play with toys while I chatted with my mother-in-law.  At one point she asked me to take something out to the freezer in the garage.  I went through the family room to do it.  As I was walking through I saw on the couch a rose in a vase and the stuffed "Daddy" Nichole and I made for Jeremy a few years ago.

What?  How did that get there?  When I came back into the family room to get a better look, I saw movement across the room.  IT WAS JEREMY!
It turns out Jeremy's parents flew him into Washington so I wouldn't have to drive all the way back to Utah by myself (and I'm sure they wouldn't mind the time with their son as well).
I was so happy.
I went back to where the kids were and sent them in to see what was in the family room.  DADDY!

Hello, Jeremy.  We missed you.
So we had an even better visit in Washington with Jeremy there (though we would have had a good time anyway- love my in-laws).

Things we did in Washington:
Spent time with Daddy

Picnicked and went out to eat

Found what the candy fairy left lying around

Watched a local band at the park

Went to the Museum of Flight including riding in simulators and walking through real aircraft

Went to the zoo/aquarium with cousins

Went to visit Great Grandma

Went tidepooling

Jr. Jr. brought me flowers from church

Jeremy and I got a chance to go out birding and got our target bird- pileated woodpecker.  We don't get those in Utah.  It's a big woodpecker.

That was our trip to Washington.
