Spouse's Day and Spouse's Day (Observed)

January 26 was Spouse's Day. Jeremy and I got a few minutes quiet time together but it was a pretty busy day for both of us.

The next day, Jeremy and I got an actual date. Woohoo.
We took a sunset drive to American Fork to Maven Cinemas (used to be The Hub) to watch the premiere/special showing of DayHero, a local film starring the son of our entertainer friend, Dan Paulus. Marcus and his wife also came so we got to sit next to them.
It's nice to support people like that. The movie is now available on Pollard Pictures YouTube channel.
Jeremy and I had a nice drive home as well and enjoyed seeing the moon come up over the mountain.
Date Night!

A Room of One's Own Day 2022

I made it very clear to the kids that Tuesday, January 25, was going to be my day off. I would make sure they got to and from school then after school they were to take care of themselves and each other, including dinner and Jet. I had plans for how I was going to relax that afternoon/evening in my room for A Room of One's Own Day. I have fond memories of celebrating this holiday in the past.
It was to be my day off.
Sigh. Days off haven't worked very well for me lately, though. I won't go into all the details. Here are just some.
While the kids were at school, Jet and I started inventorying the pantry. Oh, he had fun by the end throwing things out of boxes as soon as I put them in. Oh well. Toddler. I didn't get everything put away by the time it was time to go get Nichole and Jr. from school so after picking up Jr. and setting sleeping baby down, I finished up. By the time I finished the others were home and people were asking me for things even though they knew it was my day off.
I went to my room for some well needed Me Time then every five to ten minutes there'd be a knock on my door from kids wanting things. Then I could hear them fighting as well. I had plans for what I was going to do to relax in my room that day. Sigh.
I don't think it went as well as I hoped. It was not relaxing at all. And the one picture I got was of something I took while inventorying.

The next day, January 26, was Spouses Day. I told Jeremy I wanted to support him that day. It turns out he and I both had the same idea on how to support each other with dinner for these two holidays. Winco salads and pizzas. Jeremy stopped by the store and picked up a pizza for the kids and salads for himself and me, mine that I could eat in my room on A Room of One's Own Day.
That was what I had planned to do for Spouses Day. Pizza for the kids and salads for us. I did it anyway. So we had the same two days in a row.

Earlier in the day on Spouses Day, Jeremy invited Jet and me to go walking with him. As soon as we got out of the van at our destination, Jeremy pointed out a bald eagle sitting in a tree. It turns out there were several bald eagles in trees and flying around, both adults and juveniles.

An eagle landed in a tree along the trail as we were walking back. I was about to get a picture when I saw another flying so I waited for it to get in the picture so I could get both birds.

We had a lot of fun. It was good getting out. And I was so happy to see bald eagles.

Jet (waving): Bye, Bald Eagle.

Jeremy: Oh no. The dilophosaurus is eating you.

Jeremy and I did little things throughout the rest of the day to support each other. I love my husband.

Spring Break- Monday and Tuesday

For Spring Break I explained to the kids that we can do cleaning in the morning, get some outside time in the afternoon, and watch a movie in the evening. Simple enough, right? Um... yeah. Sure.
When dealing with multiple people who have their own interests or ways of doing things and weather that doesn't always cooperate and a mom who wants to fit holiday celebrating into the activities, sometimes things don't go exactly right. The kids and I planned out our week and... we adapted.
So this is the fun we did have on Monday and Tuesday (because I'm guessing you don't care as much about what cleaning we did):
Monday, the kids and I went for a drive. While we drove, Jr. had us play a game. One person calls out a word on a sign (since we were in the middle of the city for a while, it worked out). Whatever letter that word ends in, another person calls out a word they see on a sign that begins with that letter. You can't call out two words in a row, you have to wait until someone else finds a word before you can do it again. It was pretty fun until we reached "DQ." We were not on a road with a Quick Quack Car Wash, which would have made it simple, so we had to wait until after our outing to continue the game when we did pass a Quick Quack Car Wash on the way home.

Our outing? We drove up to Big Springs Park and played frisbee. We had "Daddy" there with us as well as Flat Stanley who came home with Lucky for Spring Break.

After we got home we did get to watch a movie.
Since April 5 was Gold Star Spouse's Day, I printed out a gold star to put on Jeremy's shirt when he got home.
He is a most terrific spouse. When I'm in the middle of writing a blog post, if I step away (which often happens- Mom, here), some of my kids will sometimes come in and add "My husband is awesome." See, they know it. Sometimes I leave it in. Sometimes I take it out (my husband is still awesome, though) if it really doesn't fit what I was writing right then. So if you're reading my blog and a random "My husband is awesome" is in a blog post, my kids probably wrote it and it's true.
I didn't realize it but while I was making dinner that night, Jr. came up and put a gold star on my back. Aww. What a sweetie.

Tuesday, it snowed. We didn't get out like we planned. I did make a quick trip to the Provo Library to pick up some things that were being held for us. April 6 was Library Workers Day. See my post from March 25 of this year to read my opinion on library workers.
April 6 was also National Carbonara Day. I did make carbornara with French bread on the side.
April 6 was also the anniversary of the invention of the Twinkie but I totally forgot to get out the Twinkies to celebrate.

Spouses Day (Observed)

We learned another new holiday from the national days calendar. Spouses Day was January 26. Jeremy and I planned to play a game that night since we haven't been able to do any activities like that together for a while (It's a good thing we went on so many dates last year before the baby arrived). I got tired and fell asleep and Jeremy let me... because he's a great spouse.
So the day after Spouse's Day we celebrated it. We watched a movie and ate popcorn together (we haven't done that for a while, either). Jet was there for part of the time but I made it through the whole movie without falling asleep.
I don't have any pictures from that holiday or holiday observed. But speaking of spouses, when Lucky was born, at the hospital they told us we could get a complimentary meal for Jeremy so he and I could have a meal together, a little date before the baby and I went home. Unfortunately, two of our children got sick so Jeremy spent most of his time at home taking care of sick kids while Lucky and I were in the hospital. We never got our meal together.
When Jet and I were at the hospital, none of the kids at home were sick so Jeremy and I got our meal together since that hospital had the same thing with the complimentary meal.
Woohoo. Love time with my husband.
