Mother's Day 2026

I feel like this Mother's Day, some of the celebrating was spread out over a few days.
A few days before Mother's Day, Jet brought home a card he made at school.
Friday, Jeremy brought me Mother's Day flowers with a card. I love my husband.
Sunday, Jeremy made me breakfast.
Jr. Jr. drew a picture for me.
See. She's holding 5 eggs. I have 5 children.

I got to teach a short Relief Society lesson then we had muffins and yogurt and fruit and socializing for the women.
When Jeremy was going to take most of the kids home (Lucky stayed with me for choir), Jet seatbelted a Mother's Day card in so it would be protected.
Lucky gave me a card, a candy rose, and two pictures taken by high school photography students. Awww. I love them.

Jeremy gave me a present- a portable selfie stick tripod. I used it when I FaceTimed my mom for Mother's Day- hands free use of my phone. Although I picked it up and pointed it at different family members plenty. Tee Hee.
Later, I found Timothy, the banana slug, using the wrapping paper for a home. Have I mentioned I love my family?
I got to rest and spend some time looking at Jeremy's latest book.
I didn't have to make dinner. Jeremy fixed it for us. It was a hit with the family.
Jet entertained me using his Spidey powers.
I told everyone for Mother's Day, I wanted them to play D&D. They hadn't in a while and I knew Jr. was waiting very patiently to play again. The others couldn't play video games because it was the last day of Screen Free Week so they didn't have a good excuse not to. Bwah ha ha ha.
Jr. made chocolate chip cookies.
On Monday, I found out I missed a present from Jet in his backpack. He decorated a keychain for me.
Awwww.
I enjoyed my Mother's Day(s) this year.
I love my family.

Yet More Bonding Time (With a Little Alone Time Thrown In There)

Saturday, I had time to myself in the morning. I was able to go for a walk in the park with the lights. Since I don't have any audiobooks checked out right now (I have two physical books I need to read ASAP), I listened to music as I walked. It's been a while since I've done that. It was quite enjoyable. And it wasn't raining like the last time I went walking there.

That alone time didn't last long. Lucky and I had choir practice and choir brunch later that morning to get ready for our Christmas Program for church the next day. I'm glad he sings with me in choir.

Remember the blue pancakes I made the other day? There was a reason for that. Since the first few episodes of the second season of Percy Jackson came out recently, we've been planning to start watching them but things keep coming up. The day I made blue pancakes was one of the days we were going to but it didn't work out with everyone's schedules.
Saturday evening we finally watched the first episode as a family and ate blue jelly beans and gummy sharks and chocolate wrapped in blue foil.

Lots of Lights

December 6 was a day for being around holiday lights apparently.
Since it was St. Nicholas Day, we found candy in our shoes. Lucky let me know that he had learned about that holiday in the library so when he saw it on the calendar, it reminded him that it was that holiday so he went to look in his shoes.
I need to take a little break from writing now because Jet wants his turn so this is my way of doing service for him now- letting him type.

Now it's my turn (after I edited his a little).
Besides St. Nicholas Day, December 6 was also Put On Your Own Shoes Day. That happened.
Since the lights are on at City Center Park now, I wanted to get out for a walk on the first morning I could, which was that Saturday (because weekdays during school, there's not enough time). You know I like going for morning walks there when the lights are on. It was Play Outside Day as well.
It was raining that morning so I was worried about going out until Jeremy encouraged me to unlock my "inner Oregonian" and I realized I could use an umbrella. So I went and got a good walk in the rain and enjoyed the lights (and an audiobook).
That evening, Nichole needed to go some places for homework so I took her to the mall and to BYU, both places with holiday lights.
She pointed out the cool Nativity they had on the windows of the library at BYU.
The moon looked cool that night.
We ate breakfast sandwiches that night because it was Microwave Oven Day and I made sure to cook my egg in the microwave as well as sausage links.

Jr. Jr.'s Birthday

Back to catching up on October.
I don't know how it came up but Jr. Jr. decided to tell people he was turning 14 on his birthday. He turned 13. He had 13 candles on his cake in the shape of a '14.' That kid.

When he opened his present he said, "Thanks, Dad. Finally. Physical proof that the world is full of candy."
There was a "world box" filled with candy and a note to tell him where he could find his actual present (besides the candy).

St. Nicholas Day

It's St. Nicholas Day, December 6. It's also Put On Your Own Shoes Day.

The kids had different reactions to finding candy in their shoes this morning.

Some were confused but went with it. Some put their shoes on and walked around with the candy still in them. Jet put his shoes on himself but didn't quite realize their was something in it. I had to take his shoe off and hold it up until he took it out. Then we put his shoe back on and he pointed out the "snowman" on the outside of the coin. Funny? I thought it looked more like one of the presidents of the United States but... we'll go with snowman.

Valentine's Day

I thought we had finished the Valentine's celebrating since we did it a day early. Then I had a dream. In my dream, Lucky missed the beginning of school because he was decorating his Valentine box still (he and Jr. Jr. both finished their boxes and valentines to give to classmates on Saturday). Apparently he was painting it, which is a horrible idea to do the morning before the school day or during the school day but such is the nature of dreams. In my dream, it kept getting later and later so he ended up missing the school day, then somehow Jr. Jr. was there, too, and had missed the whole school day as well. Sigh. When I told those boys about my dream, they assured me they wouldn't miss school.
When I came back from dropping Nichole off and school, I called the boys to see if they were coming out. Lucky said, "But I need to paint my Valentine box." Hee Hee Hee.

He went with a Doctor Who theme for his box and valentines.

Give me valentines or you will be exterminated.

Jr. Jr. went with a game theme.

Insert valentines to play.

They of course brought home plenty of candy to get themselves sugared up.

I planned to do fajitas for dinner then when I was talking with Nichole and Jr. after picking them up from school I mentioned we had pizza dough in the fridge that needed to be used. All of a sudden I figured it out, "Fajita pizza!" Jr. immediately came back with, "Fajitza!" I love that kid and his quick wit.
So we had fajitza and BBQ chicken pizza for those that didn't want to eat it. But the fajitza was yummy. We have had heart-shaped pizza for Valentine's Day in the past but I forgot to make it heart-shaped this time.
Lately anytime anybody goes to store and asks if there's something someone needs, one of the boys will say, "Reese's Pieces Lemon Squeezes." I don't even know where that came from but they do ask for it. Tonight Jeremy and I presented the kids with a bag of Reese's Pieces and chewy Lemonheads and said something like, "We hope your Valentine's Day was full of Reese's Pieces Lemon Squeezes."

So we ended up celebrating Valentine's Day today after all. And it was a beautiful day for it... and evening.
