Mother's Day 2026

I feel like this Mother's Day, some of the celebrating was spread out over a few days.
A few days before Mother's Day, Jet brought home a card he made at school.
Friday, Jeremy brought me Mother's Day flowers with a card. I love my husband.
Sunday, Jeremy made me breakfast.
Jr. Jr. drew a picture for me.
See. She's holding 5 eggs. I have 5 children.

I got to teach a short Relief Society lesson then we had muffins and yogurt and fruit and socializing for the women.
When Jeremy was going to take most of the kids home (Lucky stayed with me for choir), Jet seatbelted a Mother's Day card in so it would be protected.
Lucky gave me a card, a candy rose, and two pictures taken by high school photography students. Awww. I love them.

Jeremy gave me a present- a portable selfie stick tripod. I used it when I FaceTimed my mom for Mother's Day- hands free use of my phone. Although I picked it up and pointed it at different family members plenty. Tee Hee.
Later, I found Timothy, the banana slug, using the wrapping paper for a home. Have I mentioned I love my family?
I got to rest and spend some time looking at Jeremy's latest book.
I didn't have to make dinner. Jeremy fixed it for us. It was a hit with the family.
Jet entertained me using his Spidey powers.
I told everyone for Mother's Day, I wanted them to play D&D. They hadn't in a while and I knew Jr. was waiting very patiently to play again. The others couldn't play video games because it was the last day of Screen Free Week so they didn't have a good excuse not to. Bwah ha ha ha.
Jr. made chocolate chip cookies.
On Monday, I found out I missed a present from Jet in his backpack. He decorated a keychain for me.
Awwww.
I enjoyed my Mother's Day(s) this year.
I love my family.

A Little More September Catching Up

We found out September 6 was National Hummingbird Day. How did we not have that on our calendar before now? It has since been added. First Saturday in September.
To celebrate, Nichole created this picture. I do a lot of celebrating with food. She does a lot of celebrating with art. I love it.

September 7 was the anniversary of when the first fully electric TV set was achieved by Philo T. Farnsworth. Now Philo T. Farnsworth was my grandma's cousin so he's kind of a big deal in my family. I have a friend in our ward with the last name of Farnsworth so I finally asked him if he was related to Philo T. Farnsworth. Yes! Me, too. When he found out we were both related he asked if we as kids also all wrote reports about Philo T. Farnsworth for school. Yes! It was funny to find out that my family (including cousins) isn't the only family who did this. Someone I didn't know I was related to did it, too.
Anyway so this year for the anniversary, I sat down with my friend and we figured out how we were each related to Philo T. Farnsworth and so how we were related to each other. That and Jeremy made a card for him.
I can't find the card on the computer and I didn't take a picture before I gave it to my friend. Oh well.

September 7 was also Grandparents Day. I wished my mom and my sister Happy Grandparents Day.

September 8 was the anniversary of the original Star Trek. I wished that happy anniversary to a friend who likes Star Trek.

It was also Tim Bergling's birthday so I went around singing an Avicii song.

September 9 was Ants on a Log Day

It was also President Nelson's 101st birthday. I decided not to try to put 101 candles on a cake so we just put one in the middle and Jet got to blow it out.

Father's Day

June 14 was Flag Day. I didn't get a flag selfie that day. Oh well.

June 15 was Father's Day. I also didn't get a flag selfie but there wasn't a flag on our lawn that day.
We did get a picture of Jeremy and Jr. together while Jeremy wore his tie that Jr. gave him many many years ago.
Jeremy requested taco salad for dinner and the kids made him a card.
Nichole created the front. I just love how adoringly the little penguin is looking up at his Daddy.

June 15 was also National Electricity Day. Jet went around pretending like he was shocking everyone (electricitying them). He's so cute.

Celebrating in Unusual Ways

Nichole was scheduled to move into her apartment on August 31. That happened to be National Trail Mix Day and I happened to be sick, so Jeremy once again took care of things. My hero.
He drove her down so she could drop stuff off then come back home.
Jeremy came into our room where I was lying down and gave me flowers and a card. It was not a "Get Well" card. It was a "Happy Trail Mix Day" card. He and all the kids had signed it. He had to put the flowers in a vase from me, though, because I didn't feel up to getting up.
I absolutely love my family and their creativity.

While I was sick, Jet came to me and put his hands on my eyes and said, "Close your eyes and go to sleep," then he sang, "Rockabye Baby," to me. What a cutie.

Screen Free Week 2024

I did a good job again this year and scheduled posts to be published during Screen Free Week.
Now it's time to tell you what we did during Screen Free Week, May 6-12.

May 6 was International No Diet Day and National Beverage Day so we had chicken nuggets, fries, and root beer floats. Lucky and Jet had fun blowing bubbles in their drinks. We gave Jet water in a cup like we used.
It was also No Homework Day but shhh, the kids didn't need to know that.
The kids did use computers for school work. It's kind of necessary nowadays. And Jeremy and I had some work stuff to do as well. But it was nice not having the TV on and no video games. Jet didn't even ask for TV all week.

Jr. Jr. had his last orchestra concert. Good job, Jr. Jr.

May 8 was Have a Coke Day. We learned that any soft drink in the South is called Coke. So we all got to pick our soda pop (I picked Caffeine Free Coca Cola) and had them in our Coca Cola cups.

Lucky helped out with a service project with other children in the stake. They also decorated Mother's Day cards. Awwwww.

We celebrated our anniversary. On our actual anniversary we had our traditional anniversary dinner with the kids. Another day that week, Jeremy and I celebrated our anniversary with the two of us. We didn't even have to wait three months like last year. I'll tell you about the way we celebrated in a separate post.
We love each other.

And the random:
Who needs screens when Bluey and Bingo can go for a ride on a dinosaur?
Making faces with Daddy.
Just a duck walking down the sidewalk at the high school. I took Jr. early one day for an AP test and there it was just waddling along.
Dinos with Daddy.
It's tradition. Jeremy has his little things he does with his kids. Jet and Daddy share a big cup each using their own straw. That's their thing.
Spontaneous dance party.
Big helper Jet. He saw me cleaning off the table so he poured water out from his water bottle then wiped it up to help.
He also helped make buns to go with Classic Meatball Subs (with homemade meatballs) and Addictive Veggie Dip. We're still getting use out of A Season of Family Meal Plans by Jordan Page.
I also took a moment one day to drive down to the river and just relax. As soon as I turned off the van, I could hear yellow warblers. There were several and it was so nice to hear them.

Several people saw the Northern Lights Friday of that week. We didn't realize because... Screen Free Week. We tried going out Saturday night but didn't see anything. It was cloudy but had some clear spots so we did get to see some constellations since we drove out to Bridal Veil Falls then Deer Creek Reservoir. Ah, nature.
It's the Big Dipper (try clicking on the picture to make it bigger).
We explained this trip out in the middle of the night was like birding. Sometimes you go looking for a specific bird (or atmospheric condition or celestial event) and you don't see it but you enjoy the adventure.
And family history- we were able to tell the kids about the time Jeremy and I saw the Northern Lights when we were visiting my sister in Idaho (like 20 years ago).

O.K. That's all I'm going to say about Screen Free Week in this post. I'll talk about celebrating our anniversary and Mother's Day later.
