Sunday Rainday

Hiding out in the van during a thunder storm after church.
Lucky joined me and later, Jr. did.
We ate snacks and Jr. got creative with the fogged up window.
It was nice to listen to the rain on the windshield and relax for a little bit. And some of the thunder was loud especially when there was a flash of lightning right before the crack of thunder.
What a beautiful Sunday Rainday.

Last Hurrah

We had our last hurrah Sunday before the kids went back to school after Spring Break.
I recently got a baguette pan so I got to make some nicely shaped baguettes. Ha Ha Ha.
Who knew baguettes could be so fun?

Jeremy and the kids played a board game while Jet played with a puzzle and a fidget spinner.
Apparently this board game had a... drinking game... connected to it?

Then the kids convinced Daddy to play a video game.

Good family time before everything got busy again with so many different schedules.
Hurrah!

Serene Sunday?

LightTheWorld Sunday was supposed to be "Serene Sunday," finding some quiet time to reflect on "what brings you closer to God." It was not a quiet Sunday. It was a hectic Sunday. We decided to do latkes and dreidels that day, however when Jeremy and I were planning it, we thought we might try some other foods for Hanukkah. Turns out some foods take a while. Everyone except Jet helped out (some more than others- but everyone did something). This is what we ended up with.

Jeremy made latkes which we ate with sour cream, applesauce, or BBQ sauce. He also made roasted Brussel sprouts. He cut up a pomegranate (because we had one). Nichole and I made challah (I've been wanting to try making that bread for a while). Great braiding, Nichole. I love how it turned out.

While we played dreidel, we drank cocoa since December 13 is National Cocoa Day.

The kids had fun playing dreidel and Jet got really excited watching the dreidel spin. He even tried to figure it out himself. It was so cute to see him holding it with two fingers and dropping it to see what it would do. It will be interesting to see where he is next year with that.

After doing a lot with the food preparation and before we ate and played dreidel, I did take Jet out for a drive. Sometimes going for a drive helps me have a needed break. We drove up to Pleasant Grove so I could see the Christmas star on the mountain. Jeremy told me about it and I wanted to go see it so I finally took the time to do that. It's so nice.

The radio was playing Handel's "Messiah" which I was in the mood for so that helped. I don't normally listen to the radio on Sunday but I turned it on that day and I'm glad I did. There was so much going on in my head- tuning out distractions didn't really happen- but Heavenly Father still managed to remind me of certain little things while I was driving around. I'm grateful for that.

National Popcorn Day 2020

Sunday, January 19 was National Popcorn Day. Popcorn is often eaten while watching movies. We decide not to watch movies on Sundays in our home (when someone is sick is the exception- distraction is needed). We do consider Bible videos and Book of Mormon videos appropriate since they support the scriptures. So on Sunday, Jeremy was a sweetheart and made popcorn for the kids to eat while watching Book of Mormon videos (he gave up the last of the unpopped popcorn for this). My hero.

January 19 was also Brew a Potion Day but we've had mixed results with that one in the past. We've had good experiences such as having a hot chocolate bar in 2016. We've had not so good experiences such as the food coloring incident of 2013. This year we were going to do the hot chocolate bar again but we didn't get around to it. Oh well. The kids were happy with popcorn.

The KAT's Meow

Kristin mentions something she will stress about.
Jeremy:  Well, Kristin, if you're going to stress about it then you better do a good job.
Kristin gives him a puzzled look.
Jeremy:  Because it's Sunday and you should always wear your best stress.
Kristin immediately runs in the other room to write it down for a blog post.

National Checkers Day 2012

September 23 is National Checkers Day.
Guess what we did to celebrate.  That's right.  We played checkers.  And with four people able to play a two player game, there were numerous games to be played.
Daddy vs. Mommy, Jr. vs. Daddy, Jr. vs. Nichole, Daddy vs. Nichole, etc. etc.

Jr. was very pleased (but not prideful) to win his first game against Daddy.
And Daddy made popcorn for us to eat while playing and watching each others' games.  He said, "It's about time I made popcorn while the kids are actually up."  Too often he pops popcorn after the kids have gone too bed and we take time to sit down and watch a movie together.

This was a nice, relaxing Sunday afternoon activity.

Nichole and Jr. even took some time to do some painting when Jeremy and I were playing our first game.  Which is another relaxing Sunday afternoon activity.
And Jr. Jr. took a nap.  Another relaxing Sunday afternoon activity.  I should take one of those sometime.
