Dinosaur Day

We've been celebrating Dinosaur Day on May 15 for many years. You know I like dinosaurs. According to Google, a more well known Dinosaur Day is June 1, so... we get to celebrate both now. I'm not complaining.
This year on May 15, though, while dropping Jet off at school, he let me know that he didn't want it to be Dinosaur Day (he used to be more into dinosaurs), he wanted it to be Leprechaun Day. I explained to him that Leprechaun Day was two days before that. Sorry we didn't do anything to celebrate that day (May 13). He made it clear that he preferred leprechauns to dinosaurs and I let him know I preferred dinosaurs to leprechauns and it's fine that we prefer different things. He let the teachers/aides know that leprechauns were green and he liked leprechauns. It really is okay for us to like different things.
After dropping him off, Nichole and I went for a walk to Bridal Veil Falls. We took binoculars and cameras so it ended up being a lot longer walk than it usually is.
Earlier that week, I either walked by myself or Nichole and I walked to the falls, got our selfies, and walked back. Every time I thought, I should really bring camera and binoculars. So many yellow warblers and other birds but mostly yellow warblers. When I told Jeremy the time before this, I really need to bring camera and binoculars, he commented, I thought you were already planning to. Yeah, but I finally did on Dinosaur Day.
Nichole and I listened to Weird Al Yankovic's "Jurassic Park" on the drive there then got to try out my new selfie stick tripod at the falls. Note my shirt.

On the walk back, we saw lots of birds. Some posed for us and we even spotted a nest with a bird who kept flying away then coming back to it. I'm pretty sure it was a Warbling Vireo.

I love birds.
This Song Sparrow posed for us so nicely. It even sang for us.

You know that part in the first Jurassic Park movie where the power's been off at the compound so two of the characters are eating melting ice cream while having a discussion. Nichole and I continued to celebrate Dinosaur Day by eating ice cream later on.
That night, Jet wore dinosaur pajamas.

While we're talking about holidays, "On the 15th of May, in the Jungle of Nool..." we discussed watching Horton Hears a Who but remembered that our DVD of it doesn't work the best. Sigh.
We celebrated National Pizza Party Day. I made dough, Nichole rolled it out, Jr. put the toppings on. Teamwork for International Day of Families.
It was also National Chocolate Chip Day so I ate some chocolate chips throughout the day.
Celebrating lots of holidays is fun!

Here's Some More Catching Up

May 13 was Leprechaun Day, Crouton Day, Fruit Cocktail Day, and Apple Pie Day. Guess what. We celebrated.
Ah, homemade croutons and homemade apple pie. Mmmmmm.

Besides given ourselves "gold" coins for Leprechaun Day, we also turned on Irish music and had some fun moving to the music.
Lucky decided to use his fruit to make a kebab. Why not?

May 14 was Dance Like a Chicken Day and Buttermilk Biscuit Day. We made Biscuits and "Gragy" from Shelf Cooking 101 by Jordan Page.
Of course we danced like chickens.

May 15 was Dinosaur Day, National Chocolate Chip Day, and International Day of Families. We had Dino nuggets and chocolate chip pancakes with our family.
I also got out for a walk that morning with a friend I haven't been able to do anything with for a while.

Dinosaur Day 2024

You've heard me mention it before. Dinosaurs are everywhere.
On the kitchen table. In my bed. Where I'm stepping on the floor. In Jet's hands... obviously. In my bag... all the time. They're everywhere.

Sometimes I embrace the dinosaurs. Sometimes I forget about them even when it's Dinosaur Day, May 15, and I remember them almost last minute.
I should have worn my Jurassic Park shirt that day but I didn't think about it. Silly me. I did have other things on my mind. Jr.'s last orchestra concert was that evening for example. Earlier in the day, he had his guitar recital. Jeremy and Nichole went to that since Jet and I had an appointment. Most of us went to Jr.'s orchestra concert. My sister, her husband, and her son went to that concert as well... because I finally told her when his concert was. For the past few years I keep forgetting to tell her when the kids' concerts are even though they live in the same city. Sigh.
After the concert, they had some food and gave out paper plate awards. Jr. got the "Silent Ninja" award. He's quiet but does a good job.
Jet and I made sure to grab a couple of chocolate chip cookies since May 15 was also National Chocolate Chip Day.
After the concert, Jr. came home and immediately started playing his guitar again. I love that our kids are so musical.

Celebrating in January

January 4 was National Spaghetti Day. Besides eating spaghetti, we went around singing a song from the Sandra Boynton album, "Philadelphia Chickens." The Aardvarks have a part in their song where they sing, "We hope you like spaghetti." We sang that part a lot that day.
It was also National Trivia Day. I started watching a movie with characters who were good at trivia. Also that's the day I wrote the little tidbit on my blog about Ralphie from A Christmas Story being in Elf (though it wasn't posted until January 6).

January 5 was National Bird Day. Nichole and I thought about going birding with friends but decided not to based on the snow. Instead we had them over to play a game and eat treats. There were some bird cards in the game we played.
Since it was National Whipped Cream Day, I made more "Fairy in a Jar Layered Gelatin Treats" from The Fablehaven Cookbook but this time I followed directions for layering it in a 9x13 pan. Those were the treats we shared with our friends.
It was good bonding time before Nichole and the daughter both headed back to college after Christmas Break.

Jeremy and some of the kids celebrated National Bird Day by watching The Big Year. I went to sleep because that's what I do.
We all had skillet chicken parmigiana for dinner because chickens are birds and with leftover spaghetti from Spaghetti Day.
Jr. Jr. wore his chicken legs socks he got for Christmas on National Bird Day.

January 8 was Elvis' birthday. It was also a relative's birthday. We asked him what kind of treats he would approve of so we could have on for FHE treat. One of the things he likes is chocolate chip cookies so that's what we had to honor him on his birthday.

Muffin Night

October 29 was National Oatmeal Day. This is how the thinking went that evening:

I'm going to make oatmeal muffins. But wait, there are bananas that need to be used. Jr. will make banana muffins from Food Class. Let's get some veggies in there, too, and make zucchini bread muffins. For dessert, double chocolate chunk muffins, using chocolate chips.

That's how we did dinner that night.

Since Jr. made two kinds of muffins that night plus the bran muffins from before, Jeremy later asked me, "Does that mean we can now call Jr. 'the muffin man'?"

Pizza Party!

May 15 this year was National Pizza Party Day. Oh, yeah. That is my kind of holiday.
The kids read Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party.
Jr. helped me make individual sized pizza crusts and Jeremy helped me prepare toppings so everyone could have what kinds of pizza they wanted, up to four pizzas each. Yumm.
So we had a pizza party and watched Horton Hears a Who because "On the fifteenth of May in the jungle of Nool…"
We also celebrated Dinosaur Day with cuteness.
And when we needed a new blanket, we got one out with a dinosaur on it.

P.S. May 15 was also National Chocolate Chip Day. We had some ripe bananas and I meant to make chocolate chip banana muffins that day but with all the pizza preparations, I didn't get to it. So I made them the next day and we celebrated National Chocolate Chip Day Observed.
