Second Week of March

March 8 was International Women's Day and National Oregon Day. I wore my Slugs Need Hugs shirt.
That night, Nichole and I went to watch the General Relief Society Broadcast at our stake center with dessert afterward.

March 9 was Get Over It Day and National Meatball Day so of course we said our traditional "Get over it, you meatball" phrase that day. It was also Popcorn Lover's Day so Joshua made popcorn I think.

March 10 was Mario Day (MAR10). I woke up to one child whistling music from a Mario game. I wore my Mario shirt and a couple of the kids watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
I had some fun with the menu plan for that holiday. I took the scene toward the beginning of the movie where Mario and Luigi are sitting down to dinner with their family and tried to recreate what their dinner looked like. We had spaghetti with alfredo sauce and mushrooms of course. We had salad, dinner rolls, green olives. What didn't fit in with their dinner table but we had to have were peaches, singing a certain song while dishing them out.

On World Plumbing Day, March 11, I wore my Mario shirt again and some of us played MarioKart.

Since March 11 was also Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day, for dinner we had oatmeal, nuts, and waffles.

The next day, Lucky, Nichole, and I went to a Utah County Birders movie night. We watched The Big Year and played BINGO while watching it. It was fun and interesting to do something a little different than our normal birding meetings.
March 13 was Friday the 13th and Open an Umbrella Indoors Day but we didn't do anything special to celebrate- just mentioned it. I did reminisce how 2020 had Friday the 13th on that same day (and that year was a big deal) and 2015 we celebrated it with a fun video.
Jet wanted me to get him a board game from the library so I did- Pictureka- and several of us played it after school.

The next day, Lucky and I stopped by the other library to pick up some things and we said Hi to Libby the Librantula who was out for us to see. March 14 was Save a Spider Day.

March 14 was Pi Day. I baked an apple pie in our Pi plate. We also had pizza pie.
Nichole went down to BYU the day before to celebrate Pi Day with a free piece of pie and a t-shirt.

I forgot to get out the potato chips for Potato Chip Day on March 14 so we celebrated that observed a few days later.

Muffin Night

October 29 was National Oatmeal Day. This is how the thinking went that evening:

I'm going to make oatmeal muffins. But wait, there are bananas that need to be used. Jr. will make banana muffins from Food Class. Let's get some veggies in there, too, and make zucchini bread muffins. For dessert, double chocolate chunk muffins, using chocolate chips.

That's how we did dinner that night.

Since Jr. made two kinds of muffins that night plus the bran muffins from before, Jeremy later asked me, "Does that mean we can now call Jr. 'the muffin man'?"

Towel Day 2020

Memorial Day, May 25, no school. Heh. Work hard with good attitudes and we'll be rewarded.
After a morning of laundry, dishes, weeding, and working in the garage (with only a little distraction from a snail in the backyard- click to see Nichole's pictures larger),
we celebrated National Brown-Bag It Day with a picnic in the front yard. It's a good thing we sat on our picnic towel because May 25 was also Towel Day.
There were Western tanagers flying around so the kids and I put some orange halves in the trees in the backyard.
Back to work. Then dinner and Family Home Evening. Since we didn't get to watch Going Postal for World Turtle Day on May 23 (there wasn't enough hard work with good attitudes), Nichole picked it for her FHE activity.
Continuing with Towel Day celebrating, Jet kept a towel under his seat while having some oatmeal.
Nichole, Jr., Jeremy, and I watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

National Oatmeal Day 2014

Jr. Jr.:  I'm going to have oatmeal.
Mommy:  That's a good thing since it's National Oatmeal Day.
Jr. Jr.:  I'm going to celebrate National Oatmeal Day.

October 29 is National Oatmeal Day.  The kids and I all had oatmeal for breakfast.

Not So Picky Today

Every once in a while, my children will actually compliment the food I make (my husband compliments it all the time).  And sometimes it is quite the compliment.

Jr.:  These are the best muffins in the whole world.  And they're homemade.

I'm sure glad I made oatmeal muffins to celebrate National Oatmeal Muffin Day, December 19th.  Those will now go on the list of foods my children will eat without complaining.

Nichole:  What kind of muffins are these?
Mommy:  Oatmeal muffins.
Nichole:  Jr., you have to try the muffins.

Nichole:  I definitely like the onion rings.

Yay.  Onion rings were a hit today as well.

And I made cauliflower macaroni and cheese, a recipe from the October 2012 FamilyFun Magazine.  Mmmmmm, I almost couldn't get enough of it.

Happy National Oatmeal Day 2012

October 29th is National Oatmeal Day.  We're obviously not up to doing big celebrations right now.  We'll see how we're feeling by Halloween.
We did simple celebrating for National Oatmeal Day, though.
Some of us had oatmeal for breakfast and for Family Home Evening treat, Jeremy got us Oatmeal Creme Pies.  Yumm.

Happy National Oatmeal Day.  Hope your celebrating is fun, whether it's simple or elaborate.

National Oatmeal Day 2011

Need a reason to celebrate today? It's National Oatmeal Day. Mmmm, breakfast. And I think most oatmeal containers have a recipe for Oatmeal Cookies on the back. We would be making oatmeal cookies today if our shortening wasn't so old. But it is and we can't make it to the store today to get more.
Other ideas. Oatmeal is supposed to be good for your skin. As a scrub for your face or your hands.
What are some creative uses for oatmeal you can think of? Or how do you like to flavor your bowl of oatmeal in the morning? This morning I added sugar and coconut. Often I'll do brown sugar. Sometimes I'll put in cinnamon or raisins. There are so many possibilities (or you can get the already flavored packets of oatmeal).
