Towel Day 2026

May 24 was Escargot Day. Nichole celebrated observed when she did art the next day and drew a snail, as well as a bunch of other cool things.
The grackle drawing was based on this photo Nichole took when we were at Tonaquint Nature Center in St. George.

May 25 was Towel Day. It was also Memorial Day so I made sure to bring a towel to our Memorial Day breakfast by the church.

I made sure I had a towel around for everything that day... except when I forgot to grab my towel when going to pick Nichole up from her afternoon of art. I told myself, "Don't panic." The drive home was okay because Nichole did have a towel in her bag. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
I encouraged the kids to use a towel for everything, too. :Oh, they were so enthusiastic.

It was also Brown Bag It Day so I made sure to put some recycling in a brown bag.

It's Graduation Day!

May 23 was World Turtle Day. This is what Nichole drew for the holiday. That's my girl.

It was also the last day of school and the day of Jr.'s high school graduation. When I woke Jr., I acted like Frozen.
"It's graduation day? It's graduation day! The window is open, so's that door. I didn't know they did that anymore..."
This was Jr.'s third and last time playing with the orchestra for graduation. The first time was for Nichole's graduation, the last was for his. That's my boy.

I also made sure to get pictures of the other boys before school because we were not around when they got out.

We all enjoyed wishing Jr. well and watching him open graduation presents. Then he and Jet played music together. So cute.

My sweet husband stayed up late to take Jr. to grad night and pick him up because I was too tired to do so and slept that night.
Once Jr. got home in the middle of the night, he helped Jeremy with a combined anniversary, Mother's Day, and birthday surprise for me.
I woke up the next morning to go for a quick walk at Bridal Veil Falls. And I had one of my morning musings: Are the colors in your dreams muted or are they vibrant?
As I was headed out, I noticed my surprise and felt loved. My husband had started a garden for me. He knew I wanted one. Earlier in May, Jr. had been volunteering at the high school's greenhouse for their greenhouse sale. He helped Jeremy pick out some plant starts for me. Since he couldn't find everything he wanted, he did go to a store to get some others.

Later the day of my surprise, Jeremy and Jet and I went shopping for some more potting soil and some more plants as well as picking up some starts from someone in our ward. He also gave us pickles that he had canned himself. Mmmm, pickles.
Jet has become a big helper with the plants with watering them and he even got to pick a tomato one day. That's my boy.
It's been a while since May. This is what our garden looked like toward the end of June. It's grown even more since then.
Jeremy and I went out to eat to celebrate my birthday then the next day we had cake and ice cream. Jet helped with the cake and the candles.
Another day a friend and I, who both have May birthdays, went out for lunch and a little walk around Bridal Veil Falls to celebrate our birthdays.

May 25 was Towel Day. I did take a towel in my bag to church.

And because this post was supposed to be about Jr.'s graduation...
I am proud of Jr. He worked plenty hard through high school and did some pretty cool things. Way to go, Jr. I think you are terrific.

Snails and Towels

May 24 was Escargot Day. I finally took a picture of a couple snails that have been sticking around (pun intended) for a while. Why the small one decided to crawl on the larger one's back, I don't know.

May 25 was Towel Day and Brown Bag It Day. Lucky took lunch to school in a brown bag. We used towels a lot. Nichole watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy while doing dishes which were dried with towels. I repeatedly told the kids, "Don't panic."

The last couple years we've had picnics at dinnertime with brown bags for these holidays. This year the boys, Jeremy, and I went to a barbecue instead. We ate food, the younger boys played games, it was enjoyable.

Jet decided on the way out it was fun to splash in a puddle he found. It's a good thing we had a towel with us.

Before we went to the barbecue, however, Jr. showed me what happened in biology. Apparently, he won the encounters contest in two categories. He had the most invertebrates and plants. So taking him to the park was worth it as was visiting the Butterfly Biosphere and all the other things we did to help him.
He was happy to get a new shirt as well as a couple of gift cards. Well done, Jr. He worked hard for those.

Towel Day 2020

Memorial Day, May 25, no school. Heh. Work hard with good attitudes and we'll be rewarded.
After a morning of laundry, dishes, weeding, and working in the garage (with only a little distraction from a snail in the backyard- click to see Nichole's pictures larger),
we celebrated National Brown-Bag It Day with a picnic in the front yard. It's a good thing we sat on our picnic towel because May 25 was also Towel Day.
There were Western tanagers flying around so the kids and I put some orange halves in the trees in the backyard.
Back to work. Then dinner and Family Home Evening. Since we didn't get to watch Going Postal for World Turtle Day on May 23 (there wasn't enough hard work with good attitudes), Nichole picked it for her FHE activity.
Continuing with Towel Day celebrating, Jet kept a towel under his seat while having some oatmeal.
Nichole, Jr., Jeremy, and I watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Towel Day 2014

May 25th is Towel Day.  I made sure to have a small towel in the diaper bag throughout church... just in case.  Lucky slept through most of church, but when he woke up he was happy to hold on to that towel.  Even after church, he still enjoyed holding on to it. And of course Jeremy went around mentioning that if you don't know what Towel Day is, "Don't panic."

P.S.  I didn't blog about this before but May 23rd was World Turtle Day.  Jeremy and I started watching the movie, "The Color of Magic," which is based on some Terry Pratchett books.  If you're familiar with the Discworld books, you'll know about the "world turtle" we watched in the movie.

Towel Day 2012

Yesterday, May 25th, was Towel Day.  Towels are very useful.  If you've read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you know just how useful they are.
Here are some of the good uses we found for towels yesterday:

Keeping warm and dry while picking up sister from school
or hiding under when someone's trying to take a picture.

Wiping frosting off your mouth.

Cleaning the floor as a service because Mommy accidentally spilled water.

Protecting the floor while eating and watching a movie at the same time.

Working with hot things as a hot pad.

Sleeping with it like a blanket.

What are some of the handy uses you've found for a towel?
