Cuteness and Creativity

I was going to work on laundry after I finished what I was working on in the kitchen so I had a basket of clean towels sitting in the living room.
I heard Jet in the other room saying something. When I listened carefully, I could tell he was saying, "I'm a turtle." I came in to see he had knocked over the basket of towels and picked one to make a shell on his back. "I'm a turtle."
After a while he started using the towel in other ways.
"I'm a bat. Flap Flap Flap Flap." "I'm a T. rex." "I'm a shark monster."
And finally, "I'm a mouse. Squeak Squeak Squeak."
Oh, the cuteness and the creativity.

Snails and Towels

May 24 was Escargot Day. I finally took a picture of a couple snails that have been sticking around (pun intended) for a while. Why the small one decided to crawl on the larger one's back, I don't know.

May 25 was Towel Day and Brown Bag It Day. Lucky took lunch to school in a brown bag. We used towels a lot. Nichole watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy while doing dishes which were dried with towels. I repeatedly told the kids, "Don't panic."

The last couple years we've had picnics at dinnertime with brown bags for these holidays. This year the boys, Jeremy, and I went to a barbecue instead. We ate food, the younger boys played games, it was enjoyable.

Jet decided on the way out it was fun to splash in a puddle he found. It's a good thing we had a towel with us.

Before we went to the barbecue, however, Jr. showed me what happened in biology. Apparently, he won the encounters contest in two categories. He had the most invertebrates and plants. So taking him to the park was worth it as was visiting the Butterfly Biosphere and all the other things we did to help him.
He was happy to get a new shirt as well as a couple of gift cards. Well done, Jr. He worked hard for those.

Towel Day 2021

May 25 was Towel Day. It was also Brown Bag It Day. It's a good thing I sent the three school age boys with towels in their backbacks since they all had field days at school. I also made sure to put a towel in the van.

That evening, the kids and I had a picnic with our dinner in brown bags as we sat on our picnic towel. Looking back I noticed that we did the same thing last year for these same holidays.

We got a really cute picture last year of us sitting on the towel with Jet looking back at the camera. This year we tried to get pictures... with interesting results.

The next day, May 26, was Paper Airplane Day. I didn't get pictures so I'll tell you here. Jeremy said we should get TV dinners and pretend they were airline food. We ate TV dinners. We didn't have time to make it a big thing, though, because we were running out of time and Nichole had a meeting. It was one of those "Here. I heated it up. Eat it then head back to your room so Nichole can have her meeting over Zoom" kind of meals. We've all had those... well, maybe not with the "Nichole" part. The boys did make paper airplanes that day, though, because they knew what the holiday was.

And Lucky had a pirate day at school that day. He is so cute.

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish Sticks

May 25 is Towel Day.  I did things, right.  I sent all three kids to school with towels in their backpacks.  Nichole had a pool party through school today so she was already planning on taking a towel.
I convinced Lucky to take a towel so I could wash his favorite blanket today.  After it came out of the washing machine, he insisted on having it back.  "I like it wet," he let me know.
When we went to pick up Jr. Jr. from school, Lucky and I played a game with the towel.  When a friend came by, Lucky and she played the game.  So cute.
After school, we had "So long and thanks for all the fish" sticks.  I didn't take a picture but there are lots of pictures of fish sticks on this blog already.
This evening, we went out to play with water balloons and towels.  The towels only lasted so long before they were abandoned for water balloon war.  Fun stuff.

Towel Day 2016

May 25 is Towel Day.  To celebrate, I made the kids do laundry- washing towels.  Heh Heh.
Lucky decided to celebrate by unrolling an almost full roll of paper towels.
I also got pictures of the kids with a towel- a towel that was later used to mop up a water spill on the floor.
Aren't towels great?

I don't have pictures, but May 23 was World Turtle Day.  I split up my celebrating into two days by watching a Terry Pratchett movie set on Discworld, which is a flat world on the backs of four elephants on the back of a giant turtle in space.  A "world turtle."
I fell asleep the first night watching the movie so I finished it the next night.

Towel Day 2014

May 25th is Towel Day.  I made sure to have a small towel in the diaper bag throughout church... just in case.  Lucky slept through most of church, but when he woke up he was happy to hold on to that towel.  Even after church, he still enjoyed holding on to it. And of course Jeremy went around mentioning that if you don't know what Towel Day is, "Don't panic."

P.S.  I didn't blog about this before but May 23rd was World Turtle Day.  Jeremy and I started watching the movie, "The Color of Magic," which is based on some Terry Pratchett books.  If you're familiar with the Discworld books, you'll know about the "world turtle" we watched in the movie.

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish

Google informed us that today, March 11, is Douglas Adams' birthday.  Douglas Adams wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

While Jeremy was out, he picked up the movie from the library and some swedish fish from the store.  For Family Home Evening activity and treat we let the kids watch the opening sequence of the movie (big musical number with dolphins) and eat some swedish fish.  Then they told us, “So long and thanks for all the fish,” and we sent them to bed.

Well, something like that.  There may have been some dancing in there somewhere, too.

Then it was our turn to watch the whole movie.

March 11 is also Johnny Appleseed Day and we had certain plans that didn’t work out, but we did have apples with our dinner.

Towel Day 2012

Yesterday, May 25th, was Towel Day.  Towels are very useful.  If you've read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you know just how useful they are.
Here are some of the good uses we found for towels yesterday:

Keeping warm and dry while picking up sister from school
or hiding under when someone's trying to take a picture.

Wiping frosting off your mouth.

Cleaning the floor as a service because Mommy accidentally spilled water.

Protecting the floor while eating and watching a movie at the same time.

Working with hot things as a hot pad.

Sleeping with it like a blanket.

What are some of the handy uses you've found for a towel?
