Garden's Bounty

I am thrilled with how our garden has done so far this year.
Jet wanted to pose with our most recent garden picture.

I'm also thrilled with what we've done with what our garden has produced.
I cut a bouquet of basil and made homemade pesto (a couple times). The recipe came from Shelf Cooking 101 by Jordan Page.

Some I froze to be used later. Some I used to make pesto alfredo. Oh, that's yummy.

We've used banana peppers in sandwiches and in salads.

We ate one cucumber and have more to use. We're still figuring out cucumbers.

We've used jalapenos for various things including mini jalapeno popper egg rolls, which I love so much, but didn't get a picture this time because they didn't last long and got all gobbled up.

We used zucchini to make zucchini bread- LOTS of zucchini bread.
This year since we actually grew zucchini early enough, I took some of that zucchini and on August 8, I baked zucchini bread. Then I put some bread on a friend's porch and sent her a message saying, "Happy Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night. Look on your porch." I didn't actually want the zucchini bread to sit there all night and it was fine that she knew it was us. She likes my zucchini bread so I like to give her some when I bake enough.

We also harvested enough tomatoes (and basil) to make homemade spaghetti sauce, which we used in more slow cooker beef lasagna (from Six Sisters' Stuff).

I am so happy with our garden this year.

Gene Kelly Kind of a Weekend

Saturday, August 22, was Be an Angel Day. I made our traditional alfredo with angel hair pasta. I didn't take pictures.
Nichole turned on Singin' in the Rain while she was doing dishes. I also didn't get a picture.
Sunday, August 23, was Gene Kelly's birthday. I didn't get any pictures of us singing songs from Singin' in the Rain but I did get pictures of my diner plate of a new recipe I tried in the crockpot- jalapeno chicken. Yumm. The garden fresh tomatoes from the couple who minister to us were so good, too. I love garden fresh tomatoes.

Monday, August 24, was National Waffle Day. We made waffles and tried out another new recipe for mozzarella stick waffles. Also yumm.
The kids finished watching Singin' in the Rain while doing dishes.
It was a Gene Kelly kind of a weekend.

Ginger Rogers' Birthday 2020

July 16 was Ginger Rogers' Birthday. The movie Shall We Dance? with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire has the song, "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off." You know the song. "Potato, potahto. Tomato, tomahto. Let's call the whole thing off." For dinner we had spaghetti with pasta sauce made from tomatoes... or tomahtoes.
Lucky decided to play hot potato... or potahto.
The kids started watching the movie, Shall We Dance? though they never made it to the "Potato, potahto. Tomato, tomahto" song.
Jr. stayed up to watch the movie, Goosebumps, with a ticket and got to drink "ginger" ale as well as eating popcorn. The ginger ale was my dad's suggestion.

Since it was also Personal Chef's Day, earlier in the day the kids made their own personal pizzas on tortillas.

Look at this Picture

Something's not quite right?
Do you know what it is?
