World Chipmunk Day

March 22 was World Chipmunk Day. While we were watching Seeking Persephone the night before, Nichole was working on this drawing of a chipmunk based off a photo she took of a chipmunk in Washington a few years ago.
I posted about it on Instagram/Facebook the day after because I didn't get around to it on National Goof Off Day, also March 22.
I also encouraged everyone to drink plenty of water on March 22, World Water Day.
Nichole is talented.

Catching Up March 2025 part 3

March 16 was Artichoke Hearts Day. We used it as an excuse to make a yummy alfredo pizza.

March 17 was St. Patrick's Day. I made two recipes from Sarah M. Eden from The Fiction Kitchen Trio Cookbook. Dublin Coddle and Katie's Irish Soda Bread.
For dessert we had Oreo Mint Truffles.

March 18 was Sloppy Joe Day. We had open faced sloppy joes. It was also Forgive Mom and Dad Day. I kept asking the kids to forgive me for silly reasons.
Lucky, Jeremy, and I went to see one of Jr.'s orchestra concerts that day. I love that he enjoys orchestra so much because music is very important to me.

See Lucky hiding behind that book? The elementary school read-a-thon was going on during that time so Lucky wanted to get as many minutes in as possible. He ended up being one of the top readers in the school and got a prize for it. The read-a-thon was Roald Dahl themed this year. One morning, Jeremy, Jet, and I were able to go to Parents and Pastries with Lucky.

March 19 was Poultry Day. We ate chicken that day.
It was also Chocolate Caramel Day. I may have celebrated that observed the next day by making Olloch the Glutton's Caramel Biscuit Bars to go with our Vernal Equinox (March 20) food, Easy Fairy Folk Tortilla Pizzas, both from The Fablehaven Cookbook.

March 21 was Fragrance Day and French Bread Day. We took some of those artichoke hearts and made Cheesy Artichoke Bread from the Six Sisters' Stuff cookbook, A Year With Six Sisters' Stuff.

March 22 was World Water Day. It rained.
I got a little break from the rain when I went out to the water of the lake. I was just going to take a quick jaunt out to look at the pelicans on the lake then I kept going and going and going. There were plenty of birds to see. What else was I supposed to do? I ended up making a complete loop around the Geneva Ponds between Vineyard Beach and Lindon Boat Harbor.
I finally got some sun... but it was in my eyes. Did I mention that March 22 was also National Goof Off Day?
After my morning off, my ministering sister invited me to her house for lunch with my other ministering sister to celebrate Nauryz, a celebration of the new year and Spring and a renewal of nature. We enjoyed some traditional foods from Kazakhstan.
What a wonderful day for that.
Later I went for a nice little drive up the canyon. Beautiful on that rainy day.

Working Hard or Hardly Working?

Goofing off on National Goof Off Day? I think not. On March 22, Jet decided to be a big helper and helped me make dinner.
I was making Green Goddess Pitas from "A Season of Family Meal Plans" volume 1. He saw me putting together the cabbage filling, saw the spinach that I was going to use for the dressing, and decided to help by putting bits of spinach in with the cabbage. So we had whole pieces of spinach in with it. That's fine.
Since we did need the spinach in the dressing, I gave Jet a measuring cup and he filled it with spinach himself to put in the blender. He started to do more in the measuring cup so we had a bit more than just the cup of spinach it called for which is fine.
I love that he chooses to help in the kitchen. You know he's my baking buddy. He's also my cooking buddy. He likes when I hand him the measuring spoons and cups to dump ingredients into something. He wanted to help cut onions with a plastic knife but we put a stop to that once he started rubbing his eyes. Poor kid. I did give him pieces of cucumber which he was able to cut with a plastic knife.
Sometimes he really is a big helper. And sometimes... I mean he did help clean the wall the day before... after he took a pencil and ran it back and forth along the wall multiple times.
This is why I refuse to read my children the book, "Harold and the Purple Crayon", which is one I read in my childhood. It's a fun book but I don't want to give them ideas (especially Jet).
The pitas turned out well. It was my turn to make hummus to go with it and we had some left over for Chip and Dip Day on March 23. I also made tzatziki with sour cream (so good) for Chip and Dip Day. I used the recipe from the beginning of the year when we made pitas before. Some people had salsa with their chips.

Earlier that day, Jeremy, Nichole, Lucky, and I went on a Utah County Birders field trip. Unfortunately it was getting ready to storm so there wasn't a lot to see in the way of birds but it was still nice to be around my birding peeps (see what I did there, birding peeps? 'Cause small sandpipers are called peeps? Tee Hee).
We got a thunderstorm and hail later that day and the next day we got snow.
The next day after that, March 25, was International Waffle Day. Jet decided to be my helper in the kitchen again and helped stir the waffle mix before I put it in the waffle iron. Then he was happy to help eat the waffles. Tee Hee.

Goofing Off with Water

March 22 was National Goof Off Day. I didn't tell the kids this. I did mention they should drink lots of water because it was World Water Day. I planned to celebrate National Goof Off Day myself.
Jet and I were both tired that day so the idea of just resting sounded good. We did go for a drive to take items back to both Orem and Provo Libraries. Jet fell asleep but didn't stay asleep when we got home. Later after the kids got home from school, I debated whether to try to take a nap or go for another drive with Jet. I rested for a little bit but eventually took that drive. Jet fell asleep and I got pictures of water (for the holiday) and deer and a mountain.

I told everyone dinner was Fend For Yourself... you know... so I could goof off. Jeremy stopped by the grocery store and brought home some stuff for himself and me and we added some things we had at home (i.e. leftover French bread) to make a nice dinner plate.
So there was some goofing off... sort of.

Goofing Off With Water

March 22 was World Water Day. It was also National Goof Off Day. Jet and I combined the two and left stuff undone at home to go to a park with a pond. Oh, that was nice.

There were some Canada geese making quite a racket and Jet was copying their noise.

Someone had just fed the ducks so Jet enjoyed watching them up close.

Later when the kids came home from school, I encouraged them all to drink plenty of water.

There wasn't too much goofing off, though, because there was a big task that needed to be done and they all helped out... with the reward of video games at the end.

We All Missed You

You missed me?  Oh, that's so sweet.  I've been pretty sick this week and have not felt up to blogging.  Here's a little something for you today, though, even though I still have a cold.
So... what you've missed... besides me lying miserably on the couch all week and reading lots and lots of books:
Monday, March 20, was National Snowman Burning Day.  I wanted us to have snowman sandwiches but didn't feel up to it.  My wonderful husband made us grilled cheese sandwiches.  He's the best.
Tuesday, March 21, was Fragrance Day.  I couldn't smell anything.
Wednesday, March 22, was World Water Day.  I drank a lot of water.  It was also National Goof Off Day.  I didn't do much (except read) but I didn't really goof off (reading doesn't count as goofing off if you're sick).  The kids did watch An Extremely Goofy Movie since my wonderful husband went to the library earlier in the week and picked up some movies (and lots of books for me to read).  He's the best.
Today, March 25, is International Waffle Day.  We proteined our girl up with eggs, bacon, and waffles before her end of the year dance performance this afternoon.
Our sweet little ballet/jazz dancer- mostly ballet because that's what her teacher likes (and honestly, Nichole prefers, too).
Of course she was tired afterward, so she and I didn't go to the church building, but watched the General Women's Broadcast at home this evening... with brownies, of course.
Busy day.  My wonderful husband drove Nichole to and from practice this morning and drove us all to and from the performance this afternoon.  He's the best.
