Fajita Poetry

From an Instagram post-
In honor of Bad Poetry Day and National Fajita Day, both on August 18, I present to you:

Ode to a Fajita by Kristin Telford

Your colors brown and green.
Your taste a spicy blend of seasonings. Oh, the seasonings. That cumin, chili powder, and all the rest.
I must eat you. I must eat. I must. I.
Fajita.

Here's a bonus poem written by my husband:

Ode to Sleeping on the Couch
Your hair cascades down your scalp like a mudslide.
Your eyes glitter like the shiny underside of a soda can.
Your nose sits in the middle of your face pointing outward
Your lips are soft like two moist slugs
Your chin sits forward from your face like a comfortable porch swing.

And Then Things Got Crazy

After Jeremy and I had such a nice relaxing anniversary celebration, our family then had a crazy busy week.
August 13 was Alfred Hitchcock's Birthday. It was also my nephew's birthday, my brother's anniversary, and a good friend's anniversary. Hence the bow earrings.

There were back to school nights and first days of schools.
When taking Jr. Jr. to back to school night, it was fun to see Nichole's ceiling tile was still up right outside the library.
Lucky's teacher has a Harry Potter themed room this year so he got to run through the "wall" at Platform 9 3/4 to get into his classroom to meet his teacher.
I asked what the boys wanted for first day of school breakfast. "Apple Pancakes" from The Fablehaven Cookbook. Are we surprised? No.
Jr. Jr. had two first days of school pictures because he had two first days. 7th grade day and everyone's first day.
We also went to a Utah County Birders potluck that week. The kids had fun running around and one of the birder's little boy joined in the fun.

We celebrated National Fajita Day on August 18.

We had a neighborhood end of Summer party for our ward that week as well. It rained pretty hard and was windy while we were there.
Crazy busy. I tell you.

Hug a Bear Day and Friends

November 6 was National Nachos Day, not to be confused with International Day of the Nacho which we celebrated on October 21. We ate nachos both days.

November 7 was Hug a Bear Day. I said we should hug anyone who was being grumpy that day. We hugged teddy bears. Not that the teddy bears were being grumpy, it's just that they were the kind of bears that we did hug.

That day was also Color the World Orange Day so we had fajitas with orange bell peppers.

November 10 was Vanilla Cupcake Day. I made vanilla cupcakes. It was also Guinness World Records Day (GWR Day). I encouraged people that day to watch my playlist on YouTube of when Jeremy and Thanksgiving Point broke a world record in 2015.

November 12 was Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day. I made the dough and Jr. made a BBQ chicken pizza and a pepperoni pizza for us.

I Don't Wanna

I don't want to blog. I do but I don't. Sigh.
So here's a picture of Jr. Jr.
Can you tell it's him?

Oh, I guess I can also say that August 18 was National Fajita Day.

August 19 was National Potato Day. I wanted to get a video of Jet saying, "Happy National Potato Day." I told him, "Say, 'Happy National Potato Day,'" then started recording. He obliged and said, "Say Happy National Potato Day." So cute.
Later he was singing, "Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday, National Potato Day. Happy Birthday to you." I LOVE MY FAMILY!

Valentine's Day

I thought we had finished the Valentine's celebrating since we did it a day early. Then I had a dream. In my dream, Lucky missed the beginning of school because he was decorating his Valentine box still (he and Jr. Jr. both finished their boxes and valentines to give to classmates on Saturday). Apparently he was painting it, which is a horrible idea to do the morning before the school day or during the school day but such is the nature of dreams. In my dream, it kept getting later and later so he ended up missing the school day, then somehow Jr. Jr. was there, too, and had missed the whole school day as well. Sigh. When I told those boys about my dream, they assured me they wouldn't miss school.
When I came back from dropping Nichole off and school, I called the boys to see if they were coming out. Lucky said, "But I need to paint my Valentine box." Hee Hee Hee.

He went with a Doctor Who theme for his box and valentines.

Give me valentines or you will be exterminated.

Jr. Jr. went with a game theme.

Insert valentines to play.

They of course brought home plenty of candy to get themselves sugared up.

I planned to do fajitas for dinner then when I was talking with Nichole and Jr. after picking them up from school I mentioned we had pizza dough in the fridge that needed to be used. All of a sudden I figured it out, "Fajita pizza!" Jr. immediately came back with, "Fajitza!" I love that kid and his quick wit.
So we had fajitza and BBQ chicken pizza for those that didn't want to eat it. But the fajitza was yummy. We have had heart-shaped pizza for Valentine's Day in the past but I forgot to make it heart-shaped this time.
Lately anytime anybody goes to store and asks if there's something someone needs, one of the boys will say, "Reese's Pieces Lemon Squeezes." I don't even know where that came from but they do ask for it. Tonight Jeremy and I presented the kids with a bag of Reese's Pieces and chewy Lemonheads and said something like, "We hope your Valentine's Day was full of Reese's Pieces Lemon Squeezes."

So we ended up celebrating Valentine's Day today after all. And it was a beautiful day for it... and evening.

Fajita Day

August 18 was National Fajita Day. I commented to Jeremy how when I started college all those years ago, there was no way I would have made fajitas. I used to be a picky eater and fajitas are pretty ambitious. Uh no. Actually they're really easy. And oh so yummy.

What's something you make often now that you would never have even considered a few (or more than a few) years ago?

Yay For This Blog to Help Us Celebrate

October 22 was National Color Day. It's kind of fun to look back on this blog and see ways we've celebrated this in the past.

October 24, 2016- "And What About Last Week?"
November 6, 2017- "Celebrating with Books"

What is also great is that it helped to decide what to have for dinner that night. Fajitas with many colored peppers like we did in 2014. Woohoo!

I love celebrating! I also love that one of our peppers decide to make it a happy occasion. Oh, the happy things nature produces.

"Taste the Rainbow"

Fajitas for dinner, monster truck for Jr. Jr.

Colorful fun in the Telford home on National Color Day, October 22.
I think I may even eat some skittles later.
