Early November Holidays (with and without pictures)

I am thankful we can celebrate even if we don't get pictures.
November 2 was Plan Your Epitaph Day. I said several times during the day things like, "Here lies Jr. Jr. He wouldn't go to bed when his mom told him to."
November 3 was Sandwich Day. I told everyone to feed themselves sandwiches. I also quoted Lilo & Stitch.
November 4 was King Tut Day. Kids watched Batman: the Animated Series. Nichole and I had a discussion about the old Adam West series with King Tut as one of the villains.
November 5 was Stress Awareness Day. I was aware of stress. I took a picture of me aware of stress.
November 6 was Men Make Dinner Day. Jeremy took time the day before to make lecso (Hungarian food). It's good reheated. I enjoyed it for dinner on the holiday.

The KAT's Meow

Lucky:  Mom, what are you doing?
Mom:  Yoga.
Lucky:  Yoda doesn't do like that!

Lucky:  Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Batbanana!

(Jr. Jr. shows Lucky his kinder egg he got at school)
Lucky: I've never seen that before.
Jr. Jr.: That's because they're made in Hungary and other states that are not Utah.

Lucky: Who's snack are you going to do first?
Mom: Daddy's because he asked first.
Lucky: Ahhh, but I'm cute!

King Tut Day 2017

November 4 was King Tut Day.  I checked out the old Batman Television Series with Adam West from the library and the kids had fun watching lots of episodes that day.  Hey, one of the villains is King Tut, right?  Perfect excuse.
We also ate taco mummy wraps.

What We Did for a Road Trip

Jeremy had a couple of fairs in Montana recently, which meant... road trip for the family.
I prepared binders for each of the kids with pens, pencils, colored pencils, and lots of printed activities and blank paper for drawing (oh, and spiral notebooks for writing).  One of the favorite activities to do together were the mad libs.  I found several online and we had leftover Quibbler Mad Libs from Nichole's party (I blogged about it on August 2).  The binders were good for in the van as well as in the motel.

Jeremy decorated the front of the boys' binders (we ran out of time for Nichole's so he'll get to hers later).  They all had glow-in-the-dark paint on them.

Lucky got the Flash symbol.

Jr. Jr. got the Bat symbol.

Jr. got a Minecraft decoration.

Jeremy worked hard and made some amazing sculptures at the two fairs (I don't have access to the pictures right now- catch me later).  The kids and I hung out in the motel and watched Disney Channel, read books, did scripture study, ate food, and Nichole worked on her homework (yes, during the Summer).
We also got creative and silly at times.

Nice to have cool air blowing on you.
This becomes this.
Nice red cheeks.

Jeremy brought him and I a special treat again- "wagon wheels" and cherry 7-up (with extra cherry syrup).  Mmmmm.

The actual traveling had good times and not so good times.  Poor Lucky was exhausted on the way to the second fair.  His ear was hurting as well.  He kept asking to stop the van and be held.  Poor little guy.  However, at one point, while we were stopped at a rest area, he went and picked flowers for everyone.  What a sweetheart.
I think getting out to run around a few times helped as well as those times he just needed to be cuddled.
Watching a movie was a good distraction as well.
Overall, it was a good trip.

Circus Tricks

To celebrate the anniversary of the first modern circus on January 9, the kids got to try some circus tricks in our living room.

Tightrope Walking

Tumbling

Dog Jumping Through The Hoop

The kids had fun.
And because of all the movie watching that has been going on lately, Jr. Jr. watched Bongo earlier (about a circus bear who goes into the wild to be free- he even rides a unicycle) and now I'm watching Batman Forever (there's a circus scene with the Flying Graysons).

KAT's Kreation

Jr. has a pair of pants that he really likes but he tends to get holes in the knee.  Then he tends to stick his fingers in the holes and make them worse.  I've tried to just stitch them up but that only lasts so long before the holes come back and he's sticking his fingers in them again.  Finally I was looking at a friend's blog one day and saw that she put patches on her sons' pants when they wore out the knees.  I'd never really done that before, but figured I could try it.
Jr. calls this particular pair of pants his "Batman pants" since he got them with some other Batman-themed items one time.  So of course I needed to put a Batman-themed patch on them.  I couldn't find any fabric I liked at the store (we have plenty of scrap fabric at home) so I finally decided I could be creative... with Jeremy's help.
He drew out the shape I wanted on black fabric.  I cut it out along with a yellow oval and a black oval to cover the hole on the inside of the pants.
Then it was simply applying iron-on adhesive to stick the black symbol and yellow oval together.  I stitched around the outside of the black symbol so it wouldn't fray.  I applied the yellow oval and the black oval to either side of the hole with the iron-on adhesive and again stitched around their edges to keep them from fraying.
Something I learned:  Next time I need to make sure the fabric on the outside and the fabric on the inside match up better.  After stitching up the outside oval I realized that if I poked the needle through from the back to the front, I would have these random stitches in the middle of my yellow.  I was able to adapt and managed to get the needle through so it didn't go all the way through the yellow part, but just the pants part.  And it didn't have to look as pretty on the inside, just keep the inside patch from coming off (I wasn't using the heavy duty iron-on adhesive), so I only had to make a few stitches here and there.
It turned out and Jr. was happy with the result.
Now my little boy can keep being a little boy and hard on the knees of his pants.

Joy Is...

Listening to a medley of Winnie the Pooh, Jingle Bells, and Tomorrow (from Annie) sung by a two year old while he's playing with Batman and Joker toys.

A Batman Theme Party!!!

It's been a while since we've done a theme party with friends that doesn't revolve around a holiday.  This evening, we had our chance.  We had some friends over to introduce them to Lego Batman for the Wii.  One of them is a big Batman fan so we couldn't pass this up.

Besides playing Lego Batman:

We had decorations up:

The Bat Signal in our window

The Riddler's Wall of Riddles

Harley Quinn's hats

The Penguin's umbrella and top hat

The Scarecrow made an appearance (with a little makeover from Jeremy with a construction paper mouth and eyebrows- it's not nearly as menacing normally)

Even our computer decided to get in on the celebration with it's desktop background

 Snacks:

The rest of the bread from the cucumber sandwiches became Wayne Manor's "Upper Crust."

Toys for the kids to play with:
The Batmobile with Joker barrels to knock over

Batman action figures

Batcave balloon pit

And we had Batman themed clothing and accessories:

I pinned this cape up the other day since it was too long for Jr., but he didn't wear it during the party.  It was just hanging by the stairs.  Another decoration, I guess.

Jeremy has this awesome Batman shirt and my sister gave me this pin years ago.

Our friends also brought over the makings for some fabulous yummy pizzas.  I forgot to get pictures of the food, but I piled a plate with leftovers and took a picture of that.  Yummm.

I love theme parties.
