Even More September Catching Up

September 12 was Hug and High Five Day. Some of the teachers at the elementary school were giving high fives as students were leaving. Lucky made sure to give his dad a hug and "high five" when his dad came home from work. 

 

September 12 was also National Video Games Day. I remembered to wear my Mario shirt this time. Woohoo. I went shopping and the gal helping me to check out remarked on my shirt so I told her it was National Video Games Day. She was very happy to find that out because it gave her an excuse to play later. 

I never got to play video games that day but the kids did.

 

September 12 was also Chocolate Milkshake Day. We made woo-woo.

That evening was Lucky's elementary school Fall Festival. He volunteered to help out since he is on the student council. He got to run a booth during the second half of the festival and got to play and eat earlier. And being the sweet boy that he is, he shared his cotton candy with me.

 

September 13 was International Chocolate Day and National Peanut Day. You know what that means. Parfaits! 

 

It was also Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day. I asked the kids to take care of dinner. 

 

It was National Day of Service. I helped tie quilts and took some time to do other service that day. 
Jet had Primary Program practice then got pizza afterward. 

The next day was the Primary Program and he did a pretty good job this year. He sang some of the songs and stayed in his seat when he was supposed to and stood when he was supposed to for the most part. When it was his turn to say his part, he said it so quickly that it was unintelligible but that's okay. Still cute.

After church, Lucky came to choir with me then we decided to walk home together. I walked. Lucky somewhat walked, somewhat ran. Cute kid.

 

September 15 was Agatha Christie's birthday. Nichole and I discussed it because you know she's into mystery writing. 

 

September 16 was Cinnamon Raisin Bread Day. We had cinnamon toast with raisins on top for those that preferred it.

 

September 17 was Monte Cristo Day so of course we had Monte Cristo Sandwiches. We love celebrating that holiday that way. 

 

September 18 was National Cheeseburger Day. I didn't make cheeseburgers but I took some ground turkey and made stroganoff to go along with sauteed zucchini from our garden. And toast because toast is popular around here, especially with homemade bread.

Catching Up June 2025 part something

Besides Eric Carle's Birthday, June 25 was also Strawberry Parfait Day.

I used real strawberries. Jr. decided to use strawberry flavored red vines. Close enough, right?

June 27 was International Pineapple Day and National Onion Day. We had pizza and yes, I am for sure a pineapple on pizza person. I also like onions on pizza.

  

Family History Celebrating

I have gotten into telling the kids family history stories from time to time when something reminds me of something. For example, when Nichole was a toddler, she went through a phase where she wouldn't fall asleep unless she had shoes on her feet. We had to take them off her after she was asleep. 

We've told the kids stories of our grandmas, some of them even remember their Great Grandma Midge who had a candy machine in her home and they were able to use a penny to get a handful of M&Ms when we would visit. She also had a wall full of pictures of her grandkids and great grandkids and she would know everyone's name and who they belonged to. Ah, family history.

For Hot Fudge Sundae Day on July 25, I helped Lucky make hot fudge sauce from a recipe that I got from my grandma. Then we put it on ice cream with whatever toppings we wanted. I personally love ice cream with hot fudge sauce and peanuts making it a kind of peanut buster parfait. Good memories of those growing up.

 

Besides the hot fudge sundaes, the other kids made dinner that night. It was simple. Jr. made eggs and bacon, Jr. Jr. made pasta, and Nichole contributed bananas.

 

The next night's dinner was also simple... sort of. Nichole wanted egg salad sandwiches and she wanted French bread so I ended up making french bread rolls from Mel's Kitchen Cafe to make into the sandwiches. We also had a side of bow tie pasta with broccoli from The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner Again. I'm getting use out of my birthday/Mother's Day present.

Yogurt Pudding

June 25 was Strawberry Parfait Day and June 26 was Chocolate Pudding Day.

We had strawberry parfaits made with yogurt, granola, and strawberry layers. I kept thinking about the movie Shrek and Donkey talking about parfaits. Everybody likes parfaits. Well, maybe not. Apparently some of my kids can dislike parfaits. They had their own versions of the treat.

All of them ate chocolate pudding, though.

Not So Pretty to Look at But Pretty Yummy

Since September 13 is National Peanut Day and also International Chocolate Day, we always like to combine the two.
We've combined the holidays several different ways over the years.
In 2011, we had homemade peanut buster parfaits.
In 2012, we had peanut M&Ms.
In 2013, I had hot chocolate with peanut butter in it while the kids had chocolate chips and peanuts and we read a book about Reese's Pieces.
In 2014, we had peanut butter chocolate woo-woo.
This year, we went back to peanut buster parfaits with homemade hot fudge sauce and spanish peanuts with french vanilla ice cream.
I didn't get a chance to make the hot fudge sauce until today so I don't know if it cooled long enough in the refrigerator before I put it on the ice cream.
I wanted to get a picture in a glass container so it could be seen so I put it in a big glass mug.  It wasn't so pretty but it was yummy. 

O.K.  It actually is pretty cool looking, but not the look I was going for.
I gave the kids smaller dishes of the parfaits and Jeremy and I shared the big mug.
I LOVE finding reasons to celebrate.
