Mom: I don't want the calculator.
Jr.: You don't want the cow-culator?
That's what farmers use to count their cows.

Sharktastic!
August 26 was National Dog Day. Why not celebrate by going to a place where they are dissecting dogfish?
Thanksgiving Point was holding its Sharktastic Saturday again and our whole family went.
There were some similar activities as last year as well as some new.
Our first thing, of course, was to get pictures with the large balloon shark that Jeremy made for this event. Last year it was a great white shark. This year it was a hammerhead shark.
The kids made shark tooth necklaces again.
They decorated bracelets to wear.
They enjoyed time at the "observation station" putting together a shark figure, as well as looking at shark eggs and other things through microscopes.
The volunteers were really good about giving the kids one on one time, teaching them and showing them things. One even let Lucky use a microscope on the floor since he couldn't see into it on the table.
Of course there were plenty of the normal museum activities to do and they had different field notes about different types of sharks around to look at and learn about.
Then we came home and ate hot dogs for dinner.
It was a pretty sharktastic (and dogtastic?) Saturday.

Better Late Than Never
September 5 is Be Late for Something Day. So why don't I finally blog about Jr. Jr.'s first loose tooth that came out in March of this year? Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it?
When Nichole had her first loose tooth in 2012, it took months for it to finally come out. With Jr. Jr., he found out his tooth was loose in the morning one day and that night it came out.
He was happy with a special note from the tooth fairy, too.

National Banana Split Day 2017
August 25 was National Banana Split Day. Guess what we ate?
A friend of mine said for this holiday she did banana splits for breakfast- she used yogurt instead of ice cream. Ah ha. Bananas, yogurt, berries, with a little whipped cream and sprinkles on top. I'm going to have to try that. Yumm.
We ate our banana splits for dessert after dinner.

What We Did at a Wedding Fiesta
The oldest daughter of a friend family recently got married. For their reception, they had a "wedding fiesta." It was so neat.
There were tacos- yumm yumm
and dessert- yumm yumm
There was pineapple-orange punch, which apparently several family members didn't care for, but I did.
There was a mariachi band and dancing. Our youngest boys were happy to see friends there to dance and spend time with.
It was a beautiful evening and when we got home, Jeremy and I did some balloon sorting while watching Joe Versus the Volcano. August 24 is Vesuvius Day after all. It was appropriate to watch a volcano themed movie. Well, Jeremy watched it. After sorting a lot of balloons, I leaned my head back and fell asleep so I missed some of the movie.

Jeremy says this is my "drinking problem" picture

What We Did on the First Day of School
We did it. We survived the first day of school. We've been so busy this Summer, right up to our big road trip to see the eclipse the day before school started, we didn't have time to get ourselves on a good sleeping schedule to prepare for earlier mornings and earlier evenings.
Earlier evenings, ha. The first day of school and Jr. Jr. had pack meeting that evening. He got some awards and we didn't get to bed as early as would have been nice.
I think it will take a few weeks to get a routine figured out. This year we have a junior high student so there are different starting and ending times for the different schools. At least we don't have middle of the day going to school to deal with as there is nobody in kindergarten this year. There are a lot of new things with junior high, though.
We'll figure it out. Somehow.
I woke up early the first day of school hearing Nemo's voice (from Finding Nemo) saying, "First day of school! First day of school!" then my own voice saying, "I'm not ready. I'm not ready."
We forgot to have Jeremy do Father's Blessings the Sunday before, so he did them that morning before school. Phew. I'm so glad we did that even if it was the morning of.
