Superheroes

Jet declared himself a superhero one day so I let him know he was "Awesome Kid." Since he was awesome kid, I told him I was "Super Mom." So we went around like this for a while.
Jet: Awesome Kid!
Me: and Super Mom!
Jet: Awesome Kid!
Me: and Super Mom!

Super Baby

Somehow he managed to get his bib turned around so it looked like a cape.
This is a little bit different than earlier in the year when he also looked like a superhero.

Valentine's Day 2017

While menu planning for Valentine's Day, I asked my family members what foods they love and thought it might be nice to have some of those for Valentine's Day.  So we had orange chicken and rice.  We had pizza and hot dogs.  We had apples and we had Woo-woo.
Before dinner, we took the kids to a new playground near the Orem Library.  Lucky fell asleep in the car, so I stayed with him and read a book while Jeremy took the other kids to play.
Even earlier in the day, Jeremy helped out in Jr.'s class for his Valentine party.  He brought balloon bows and arrows and a balloon target for the kids to shoot at.  The target reminded me of Captain America's shield so we had a good laugh after I saw that he was also wearing an Ironman shirt.  My sweetheart is the Avengers.  Captain America (shield), Hawkeye (bows and arrows), and Ironman (shirt) all in one.
We had some good family time this Valentine's Day.  During dinner, Jeremy and I told the kids some stories of past Valentine's Days when we were dating and when we were married.  It was a lot of fun with my family today.  I love them all.

Happy Birthday, Stan Lee!

Today's little known holiday celebrated the Creator of Comics, that Captain of Cameos, the Marvel of Marvel- Stan Lee. It was his birthday.

Usually we celebrate by watching one of the many movies that are spread throughout the Marvel Universe. Jeremy even got two new ones for Christmas, so we were pretty much set. Except in the end we didn't end up watching any movies.

Jr. Jr. displayed his unique superpower by becoming magnetized to Daddy. Daddy was officially trying to clean the living room, but he didn't seem too upset by the display of powers.

During Family Home Evening, Jeremy made up a story where the rest of the family got to choose elements of the setting, hero, and antagonist. It ended up being a story about a rogue walking Christmas tree (with spikey boulders for ornaments and a weeping angel on the top) that was harvesting a Minecraft type planet with a peanut butter core. Out hero was a lizard girl named What, who had the superpower of making the best French toast in the universe.

During the story Nichole drew her own comic where someone in Vegas was robbed by a guy, but later saved by our hero, Aurora. Hurrah, Aurora!

Jr. Jr. not to be out done wrote a story about Santa and his elves. A good eighty percent of it was comprehensible!

To top it off both Jeremy and I took naps. But on this of all days they couldn't be just naps. Today they were POWER NAPS!

So it may not have been cake and ice cream, but our creative juices were sure flowing. Happy Birthday, Stan Lee.

If I Were a Millionaire...

I could drink sparkling cider whenever I wanted.
May 19 is National Be a Millionaire Day.
Jeremy brought home a treat for me from one of his shows last week.  It was an "Avengers" cup.  Inside was a mini bottle of sparkling cider, a granola bar, and a bar of chocolate.  Yummm.
Maybe I should save the bar of chocolate for tomorrow, Eliza Doolittle Day.

On a slightly related note, Jr. lost another tooth yesterday.  He found a dollar coin under his pillow this morning.  Jeremy pointed out only 999,999 more to go.

The KAT's Meow... From the Past

One of the boys (a year or two ago):  I can go so fast because I have flashcards.  So I can move like The Flash.

When Balloon Twisters Get Angry

Remember this guy?

I mentioned back in May that Jeremy made this costume and wore it while chasing our son around the Spanish Fork Library.
Well, in honor of Stan Lee's birthday, December 28, you can now see him chasing Jr. Jr. around in a new youtube video on Balloon Guy Entertainment's channel.
And while you're there, watch "Balloon Bag End" again.  Did you know pictures of Balloon Bag End made it into Ripley's Believe It or Not book, "Dare to Look"?  Yep.  You should "dare to look."

Geeky

July 13th is Embrace Your Geekiness Day.

Get it?  Get it?  "Embrace" your geekiness?
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
I'm a geek.

P.S.  How many different geek culture references can you spot in this picture?  We probably could have fit more in but we decided for today... (choose one of the following)
1) "Everything is awesome."
2) We could have made it "marvel"ous, but didn't have time to get it "assemble"d.
3) And every other day we refuse to reference 'Twilight.'

Balloon Guy... Pop!

Jeremy had an event at the Spanish Fork Library today.  It was a comic con theme.  Lots of people dressed up like comic book characters.  Jeremy did, too.
Interestingly, today was also free comic book day.  People could go to comic book stores and get a free comic book.
We didn't.  Too tired by the end of Jeremy's event.  But we had fun with our very own superhero.

And the older kids read.  That's what you do when you go to a library, right?  You don't dress up in a balloon costume and chase the 3-year old around.
Well, my husband does.  I think our children are a little too used to it.

Halloween 2012

We survived Halloween this year.  Phew.  It was kind of rough for a little bit.  There's still some recovery to do from this weekend.  Nichole did get to go to school today and Jr. Jr. and I went to the school parade to watch Nichole and Jr.
I had a late night and early morning last night and today, though, finishing up Jr.'s costume and trying to get Jr. Jr. to sleep.  He just would not.  Jr. did the Batman thing when we went to our friend's Halloween party, but wanted to be a wizard for school and Trunk or Treat.  Luckily, we did simple costumes this year.
I didn't sew new outfits for the kids, we did thrift store shopping for Nichole's skirt and shirt and she wore my witch hat, and I used construction paper and felt for Jr.'s costume.  I used brown construction paper for the hat and cut out white stars and moon shapes to glue on.  Then I took the elastic from an old birthday cone hat and put it on his wizard's hat.  Then I used his Jedi robe from last year and safety pinned white felt stars and moon shapes to it.

Jeremy and I thought it would be fun to do theme costumes for Jr. Jr., Jeremy, and me.  Jeremy was going to be an old-timey villain, I was going to be the damsel in distress, and Jr. Jr. was going to be "my hero."  Also simple with things we had on hand (except for the rope, which we bought).  I was going to make railroad tracks out of cardboard and duct tape to tie me to, but as you know, things got kind of crazy and I ran out of time.  It still worked because we had the rope and Jeremy looked good as the villain.
Jr. Jr. fell asleep as it got closer to Trunk or Treat, and I was not going to wake him up to put his outfit on (especially since we ran out of time).

I just grabbed one of our superhero capes and put that on him when we got to Trunk or Treat.  He's 2.  He doesn't care.  And he still got to be the hero.  He was just excited about the whole "Trick or Treat" thing.  It was amazing to him how many people were putting things in his bag.

I decided early on in the day that I wasn't going to stress out about Halloween, and I didn't.  There were times I felt rushed, but I knew it would turn out a good day, and it did.

By the way, it's also National Knock-Knock Jokes Day, so just like I did last year, I wrote knock-knock jokes on ziplock bags that held some of Nichole's lunch items.  She was pretty happy.

Summer Reading, Here We Are

Last week, I mentioned how we signed the kids up for the Summer Reading Program at the Orem Public Library.  This week the library is doing its kickoff events for the program with Teddy Bear Picnics (storytelling, puppet shows, etc.) tonight at 7pm, tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10am and 2pm, and Wednesday at 10am.  This is all according to the pamphlet I picked up when we signed up.  There are plenty of other activities coming up also, and it's all free.

And hanging up at the library now and all this week is this guy.

Larger than life, as superheroes should be.

Jeremy started EARLY this morning with a chalk outline, er... outline with tape on our floor (took up our living room)

and worked throughout the morning and early afternoon building pieces of this not so little sculpture.

It took two cars to take all the pieces to the library (Thanks, Nessa), where it was assembled and hung in the children's section.
Did I mention it was big?

A Day in the Life

Just a day in the life of the mild-mannered Telford family:
