Science Fiction Day 2026

It's Science Fiction Day, January 2.
I went out for my first morning walk of the year this morning and listened to Doctor Who music while I was walking. About half the lights were out at the park, though, so it wasn't as pleasant of a walk. I'm not sure if it was the weather or not but Jeremy said on his way to work this morning, the fog was thick as pea soup. He made it safely, though.

I've been menu planning while watching episodes of Doctor Who today as well. Enjoying celebrating Science Fiction Day.

Yesterday was kind of a laid back day. I got a new set of scriptures for Christmas so I started the New Year the right way with my scripture study.

Yesterday afternoon, we introduced the family to Seeking Persephone because they sent a link for the digital copy of the movie on New Year's Eve. Woohoo! It was fun to watch it as a family.

Science Fiction Day 2021

It's January 2. That means it's Science Fiction Day. The first one of 2021. Or... the only one of 2021?
Anyway, after our day of Jeremy and Nichole going birding,
the boys and I dancing to ABBA music while we were supposed to be cleaning (we did some) and going for a walk/bike/scooter/stroller ride to try out Jr. and Jr. Jr.'s new helmets (and because the weather was decent today),

we ate nachos again and then watched the movie, Artemis Fowl, since it can be considered science fiction. We also ate cookies in a tin we were given for Christmas.

Here is what Jet has to say about the day:

P.S. We didn't blog about this yesterday but besides toasting the New Year and nachos, we got to watch Ballet West's The Nutcracker on KSL-TV.
Nichole and I have fond memories of going to watch the Nutcracker ballet together a couple of years in a row (not Ballet West but another Utah ballet company). We brought her ballet bear with us each time and so Nichole made sure to have that bear while we watched the movie on TV. It was nice to watch it with the family. Some day it would be nice to go to the actual theatre again to watch the ballet live. It's so awesome.

The New Year

Before the new year we finally made it to the Christmas Village with the family.  I had gone earlier in the month with friends, but wanted the rest of my family to see it.  We finally did and it was fun.
And look, we finally got an outside night shot.

We started our New Testament scripture study on December 31 with Family Home Midday.  Later while Jeremy was at work, I gave the kids 15 minutes quiet time so they could do some personal scripture study.  I intended to read from the illustrated New Testament Stories book to Lucky but when I came into the living room I saw someone had already beaten me to it.  YES!  That's what I like to see in my home.

Then to start the new year off right, Nichole and I went out on January 1 on a birding fieldtrip.  It was sooooooo cold (single digit temperatures) but it was sooooooo worth it.  We went to several different spots.  I finally got to see that Anna's hummingbird in the Winter in Utah.
It's always fun being out with other birders and of course we saw a lot of birds for the first time this year.

When we got home we needed to thaw so we put on a movie, Nichole used her rice warmer and I soaked my feet, and we enjoyed some hot chocolate (thanks, Jr., for making hot chocolate for me) to warm us up.
Then I took a nap and couldn't believe how easy it was to fall asleep again that night.

We also finally toasted the new year with sparkling cider. Lucky did NOT like the taste of it.  He apparently tasted it before the rest of us clinked our paper cups together so he didn't bother with that part.  He also didn't like the taste of the Apple Shasta.  Oh well.

Today it was Jr. and Daddy's turn to go out birding.  They also got an early start in the cold and got to see a bunch of new birds for the year.  They went to some of the same places we went and saw some of the same birds but saw some different as well.  They did have some good bonding time just like Nichole and I did.

This is what I found while Jeremy and Jr. were out.  Yay again!

Now we're doing this.  Fun while cleaning up the Christmas tree.

And since January 2 is Science Fiction Day, we'll probably watch a science fiction movie or two.

Science Fiction Day 2017

Science Fiction Day is January 2.  We decided to have themed food.  We had little green salad (little green men- aliens) with sci-fry chicken (even though it was baked)
and Dalek bread (garlic bread).
To drink we had Juice Verne (like Jules Verne).

As often happens, our creative children made creatures out of their food.  This time is was aliens for Science Fiction Day.
Fun Fun.  Let the celebrations of 2017 begin.

Science Fiction Day 2016

January 2 is Science Fiction Day.  I've been wanting to work on my balloon weaving skills so I thought this would be a good day for it.
I made a balloon dalek that Jr. Jr. could wear and chase the other kids calling out, "Exterminate!  Exterminate!"

Jeremy gave me some tips and ideas but I did all the balloon twisting myself.  It was a simple enough shape so it really was a good one for me to build by myself.  Usually Jeremy helps me when I hit tricky parts by doing the twisting on those parts, but I did it myself this time.  Yay.  My own sculpture.

Science Fiction Day 2015

We got a new toy.  Thanks, Mom and Dad.  The salad spinner makes drying lettuce so much more fun.
But you never know what you're going to find on Science Fiction Day, January 2.
Sorry.  I had to limit the number of pictures I put on here.  I hope you get the idea, though.
