Cheese and Gingerbread Donuts

June 4 was National Cheese Day. I decided to watch a cheesy movie to celebrate. I didn't finish it.
I did however make dinner with cheese in it.

June 5 was National Gingerbread Day and National Donut Day. I combined them and made Baked Gingerbread Donuts from averiecooks.com
My gingerbread loving youngest child couldn't stop eating them.

Catching Up June 2025 part 1

Back in Utah, we celebrated again.
June 4 was National Cheese Day. We had Cheeseburger Pasta. Yumm.

Another day, Nichole and I got to go celebrate our friend, Stephanie's birthday. She is amazing, She is Wonder Woman.

Nichole designed a card for her. Butterflies are definitely her thing. Stephanie is also an artist so she really appreciated it. Nichole and she get together often to do art.

On Name Your Poison Day, June 8, I told Nichole the holiday and she immediately started naming several different poisons. She wants to write a mystery so she is often researching poisons. She even took a medicinal plants class in college to learn more.
We also had an at-home potluck that day. Here were the contributions (oldest to youngest):
zucchini bread, strawberries and cream, tacquitos, sparkling apple-grape, otter pops.

O.K. That's enough catching up for now.

Our Vacation, Thy Creations, and Our Relations- Part 3

The next morning I was awake when I started to hear robins, then Swainson's thrushes, then other birds like Steller's jays. Amazing how loud birds can be in the middle of the woods in the early morning. I loved it. We wanted to get up early so we could pack up and get to Stout Memorial Grove before the parking area got too filled up.

Road trip!

When we left the campground we did see a deer. It was fun to see something other than mule deer like we get in Utah. It's ears were so small.

After checking to make sure everyone had their jackets/hoodies before we left Oregon, we realized the one person who didn't have one was me. It was back at my parents' house. When we packed up in Utah, we left Jr.'s jacket behind but my parents had an extra one they gave him.
We got creative with me. We recently got a couple of car blankets and I was able to wrap one around me under my vest. We thought with how it fit it made me look like a character on Endor in The Return of the Jedi, which was appropriate because that was filmed in the Redwoods.

When I visited the Redwoods as a child, I remember looking up and thinking, "Wow. These trees are so tall." It was the same this time. Wow. Those trees were so tall.

Banana slugs! You saw my shirt, right?

The Redwoods are awesome.

We celebrated National Camera Day on June 29.

Family picture!

Have I mentioned the Redwoods are awesome?
It was a good thing we did go early because when we left, the parking lot was completely full and cars were parked all over along the roadway. We managed to get out, though, and drove up along the Oregon Coast on the way back to my parents' house, stopping at several places along the way.

Welcome to Oregon.
Harris Beach

Arch Rock
There was a Western Gull that on the car next to us when we pulled up and just stayed there for quite a while. Later, it flew off and the car left then it decided it was our van's turn. We had some fun before it flew off again.

We also stopped for some nostalgia for me. Growing up, one of the places we liked to visit along the coast was Bandon. When cousins came to visit we would often go to the cheese factory there to get ice cream and squeaky cheese (cheese curds). The cheese factory is now Face Rock Creamery but we stopped to get ice cream and squeaky cheese. We found a flavor of cheese we like- Vampire Slayer and it's good as cheese curds as well. Since it was National Waffle Iron Day, we let the kids get their ice cream in waffle cones.
When I was younger we would also go to the beach at Face Rock in Bandon. It was tradition to get pictures of us facing up like the rock. This trip I shared with my family the legend behind Face Rock. Then I made my kids face up like we would with cousins growing up. Ah, family history.
Walking like crabs.
Don't you just love the ocean?

We eventually made it to our final destination of my parents' house again and we were exhausted after such a long but wonderful day.

I'll share more of our wonderful vacation later.

Some October Holidays

Quick. What are some October holidays?
October 9 was Moldy Cheese Day. I lost some cheese in our fridge for a while. I will spare you all the pictures, a lot just like this one.

October 11 was National Sausage Pizza Day. Jet has a way of eating pizza. He eats half a piece then puts the rest back before moving on to another piece. He can eat several pieces like that before anyone realizes what's going on because they're taking longer to eat their whole piece.

October 12 was International Moment of Frustration Scream Day. I didn't scream but I cried a lot.

Cheddar and Almonds

I forgot to mention that between Superb Owl Sunday and Valentine's Day was National Cheddar Day on February 13.
I asked the kids what I should make with cheddar cheese. They wanted impossible cheeseburger pie. I figured I could do some rice as a side dish. Hmm. Cheddar Day. How about some cheese on the rice? I realized that reminded me of Hawaiian haystacks so I added some pineapple that was in the fridge. I almost got out chow mein noodles but didn't. I did get out lettuce for another side... and added cheddar cheese and salad dressing. Then I threw a piece of bread in there as well... with cheese on top.

Then after all our Valentine's fun, the kids and I celebrated National Almond Day on February 16 by watching the Studio C sketch, "West Side Snapping."

Choctoberfest

Krispy Kreme had a thing on Saturday, October 9, where you could buy a dozen donuts and get a dozen chocolate glazed donuts for $1. They called it, "Choctoberfest." We didn't go to Krispy Kreme. Instead, I made those doughnut muffins again, but this time I made a double batch and dipped half in chocolate so we ended up with a baker's dozen of cinnamon sugar topped and a baker's dozen of chocolate topped. And one plain that Jet went at.

October 9 was also Chess Day. We played a video game that had characters playing chess.

It was Moldy Cheese Day. Jr. says he celebrated that one but I don't know how. I got rid of moldy cheese a few days before and I didn't take a picture this time.

It was also I Love Yarn Day. Nichole started knitting a puppet for her Halloween costume which she never got to use. More on that later (I did mention a while back that there was sickness in our home).

Quadruple Celebration Plus One

I got a picture for September 20, Pepperoni Pizza Day, String Cheese Day, Fried Rice Day, and Punch Day.

I didn't get a picture for September 21, World Gratitude Day, but I did express my gratitude to my husband and my children.

What They Missed- August 6

Friday, August 6-
This was not really a "I need a do over day" but I did take it kind of easy. I was feeling a little under the weather. That and the heavy smoke in the air outside made it unpleasant.

See our beautiful mountains?
Me neither.

We didn't get much done that day.
It was National Water Balloon Day so the boys watched a show with a water balloon fight in it. It was Wiggle Your Toes Day. We did do that. It was Fresh Breath Day so we ate some mints. It was Lucille Ball's Birthday so the boys ate some "yum yum balls" (Whoppers). Jr. Jr. thought he would be funny when he put "yum yum balls" on my shopping list before the trip. He was surprised and thrilled when I actually brought a box of Whoppers home for them to eat on Lucy's birthday. I did manage to make root beer floats for Jr. Jr. and Lucky to celebrate Root Beer Float Day.

Jeremy and the older two continued to work hard.

They had fun, too.
