Family Time

Sometimes you have to MAKE time for the whole family or make the whole family take time. With a not so tiny family and everyone going in different directions, sometimes it's hard to do something with everyone (in the home). We do make sure to do Family Home Evening and family prayer and scripture study (those last two are quick, however, and sometimes with the phone on speaker). Oh, and sit down family dinner time is fun.
But... to have everyone doing one thing together as a family (besides the normal necessary things) is not always easy. So I made everybody sit down together on Sunday, February 1, and I told them that one fond memory I had with my family as a child is when my oldest sister took the time to read to us younger siblings The Hobbit. As you know, I'm reading The Hobbit this year for the library reading challenge and I told everyone else they could read it, too. The book is for the whole family but I'm reading it on my own.
I wanted to read out loud to my family another book from my childhood so I made them all sit down (besides the bouncing around littlest- but he was still in the room and was listening to the book) on World Read Aloud Day and started reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to them. Besides being World Read Aloud Day, February 1 is also when Willy Wonka opened his factory up to the 5 golden ticket holders. We didn't get that far in the book but we did get started. I'll MAKE them all listen to me again another day.

Dinos in a Pudding Tar Pit

May 22 was Maritime Day. We listened to music from "Wonka." At beginning of the movie, Willy Wonka gets off a boat and sings about it.
May 22 was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Birthday. I watched a show that referenced Sherlock Holmes. Since Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote The Lost World, we ate dino nuggets in vanilla pudding (tar pits) for Vanilla Pudding Day, also May 22.
May 22 was Solitaire Day, but instead of playing a game by myself, Jet and I explored some Candy Land together. He won twice.

We Won! We Won! We Won! We Won!

I mentioned back in September (September 2, 2024) that Jeremy won a movie night at the Orem Library through the Summer Reading Program.
He was allowed to have 20 people for the movie night, so each of us in the family were able to invite two or three people. So on a Saturday afternoon in September, our group of 20 met together at the auditorium at Orem Library to watch the movie, Wonka, and eat chocolatey treats that Jeremy put together for everyone.
It was a nice activity. We really like that movie.

This is what Stephanie sent to us after the movie was over. Some of us got a quick picture together.

Request for Chocolate

Since February 1 was when Willy Wonka's factory opened to 5 ticket holders (in the book) and since Jeremy and I were going shopping, the kids requested we bring back chocolate.
Since Jeremy and I were going shopping and since I needed room in the freezer, I requested the kids finish off the old ice cream that was in there.  As Jr. got it out of the freezer, he commented about ice cream that can be left out in the sun and not melt.

When we got back from shopping we found out the kids had watched all of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and had started Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
And we did bring home chocolate... and did give some to the kids.
