The End of 2025

Yesterday, December 30, was Mercer Mayer's Birthday. We read some Mercer Mayer books.

For dinner we had carbonara for Bacon Day.

Sweet Jeremy brought roses home for me.

Today, I got out for my last morning walk of the year because... today is New Year's Eve.

Later I was "making guacamole. Making guacamole" for our New Year's nachos.
Jeremy got some writing in and had hot chocolate in the composition mug. How fun.
Now I'm too tired to write anymore myself so I'll see you next year. Or you'll see me next year since this is my blog.
Happy New Year!

Other Celebrating in December

We celebrated Lucky's birthday in December. I told him he had a free pass and didn't have to do chores on his birthday. He got up that morning and helped with dishes anyway. What a sweetie.
For his birthday, he got foods he wasn't picky about for dinner. And cake and ice cream and presents and cards.
Earlier in the day he came home with a balloon penguin on his shoulder (he gave out balloon animals to his classmates) and some treats someone gave him.
A few days before his birthday, a schoolmate brought over a Christmas gift for him. His own 2-liter bottle of strawberry lemonade. He enjoyed that.

December 28 was Chocolate Candy Day. It's a good thing we had plenty of Christmas candy left. Jr. Jr. even put a piece of his candy in my mouth for a picture. Aww, thanks, Jr. Jr.

December 29 was Tick Tock Day. Jeremy gave a balloon gold watch to a fellow employee who as leaving their job.
I also blogged about the Giving Machine on that day.

December 30 was Mercer Mayer's 80th birthday. Jeremy and I went to the library and picked up some Mercer Mayer books. It was also Bacon Day. I made carbonara for dinner.
That morning I got out for a nice walk around the City Center Park because they still had lights up on the trees and it was quite pleasant. I miss going out for walks.

but she was too tired.

Lucky read it to the family instead.

 Thanks, Lucky.

Mercer Mayer's Birthday

December 30 is Mercer Mayer's Birthday.  Jeremy saw his own "little critter" while he was out today.

A ruby-crowned kinglet that really showed off its ruby crown for him.

Birthday Fun

December 30 is Mercer Mayer's Birthday.  So we went out for a special birthday dinner with friends.
And I got a blurry picture.  Oh well.

O.K.  So we didn't actually go out to celebrate Mercer Mayer's birthday.  We went out to celebrate because friends from my husband's childhood now live in Northern Utah and were visiting Provo for a couple days.  And since we live close enough to Provo, we got to meet up with them and have dinner together... on Mercer Mayer's birthday.

On the way home, we stopped by the Orem Library because we had a hold to pick up.  While we were there another hold was put on the hold shelf- a book that Jr. Jr. asks about every time we go to the library.  Every time we have to tell him that it isn't in yet, but it came today.  Hooray.
Even though we were at the library just yesterday picking up Mercer Mayer books to celebrate his birthday, they didn't have the one I really wanted in.  So I checked while we were there today.  It wasn't on the shelf.  So I checked the catalog and it said it was on the sorting cart.  I looked and it was there.  Hooray.  What a great birthday surprise that was.
So when we got home and the kids got ready for bed, I got to read to them The Gingerbread Pirates (which Jr. Jr. had been waiting for for about a month) and Professor Wormbog in Search for the Zipperump-a-Zoo by Mercer Mayer... on his birthday.
That was nice.
Happy Birthday, Mercer Mayer.  We had fun celebrating.

Happy 70th Birthday, Mercer Mayer

December 30 is Mercer Mayer's Birthday.  70th Birthday this year.  When Jr. heard this was coming up, he suggested we read Just a Little Critter Collection, so I put it on the calendar.  Nichole was nice enough to read to Jr. and Jr. Jr. so we could get pictures.
Jr. was very wiggly.  Must be Christmas Break and the kids have cabin fever.  Oh well.
Happy Celebrating!

Mercer Mayer's Birthday

In my last post, I talked about major anniversaries or birthdays in 2012 and wondered what major anniversaries or birthdays were coming up in 2013.  Well today, December 30, is author Mercer Mayer's birthday.  And in 2013 he will turn 70.

We love Mercer Mayer in our home.  I grew up reading Mercer Mayer books and was so happy to introduce our children to his books years ago.  I shared a cute blog post of Jr. Jr. with a Mercer Mayer book a couple years ago.  My mom knows we love Mercer Mayer and has gotten us several of the Little Critter books, including "Just a Little Critter Collection" with 7 books in one.

Tonight I thought it would be great to read some Mercer Mayer while we were having some food at the table.  The kids brought their own books to the table, so Jeremy had me get a picture of what it sometimes feels like when the kids have books in their hands (I do love that our kids have a love of reading, but sometimes they are supposed to be doing other things).

I tried to read you a Mercer Mayer book... but you were too busy.

I did get to read the kids a Little Critter story later, though.

Happy Birthday, Mercer Mayer.  We love you.

Catch of the Day

Just for You, by Mercer Mayer. The little critter goes through saying all these things he wanted to do just for his mom but couldn't because of obstacles such as wanting to make breakfast but the eggs were too slippery, or wanting to carry groceries but the bag broke.
Our take on it:
I wanted to read a bedtime story just for you,
But I was too sleepy.
