National Old Rock Day 2013

National Old Rock Day, January 7th.  We spent some time reminiscing about our annual trip to Arches National Park last August.  I asked Jr. if he wanted to type about it on the blog.  He did.

Jr.::A:

It    wasFun     AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Itwassofun

Kristin here again.  I decided maybe I better type out what he wanted to say about our trip (we already erased some of his random letter typing that took up as much as his "scream" from earlier):

It was so (giggle) (full out chuckle) (Tee Hee) (laugh, laugh, laugh)
It was so (all of the above).
Sigh, laugh, giggle, tee hee, hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee.
This is what I want to say. "I love you, Mom."  It was so fun at Arches.
Then Jeremy chimed in:  This blog post "rocks."
More laughter from Jr.

It was so fun.  It was so so so so so (etc.) fun.
Labels?  Schedule? (now he's just reading the post settings on the side of the screen).

Jr:  How did I balance that long?
Mommy:  Maybe the same way balanced rock has been balancing so long.

Mommy:  Jr., do you want to type anything else about our trip to Arches?
Jr.:  Yes, I do.  I want to type something silly.
Mommy:  About our trip.
Jr.:  I know.  About our trip.

Itwassososososososososososososososososososososososososososososososososososososososososofun.
 I loveYou.

Kristin, again.  At Arches National Park, there are piles of rocks all over the place to mark the trails.  These are called cairns.  And speaking of piles of rocks, National Old Rock Day is a great time to put up a link to a youtube video my brother made of his Tidal Art.  I mentioned his Tidal Art before on Collect Rocks Day

Now Nichole wants to type something about our trip to Arches:
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Arches.
Arches who?
Arches National Park is fun.

The KAT's Meow

While talking about Lego Pirates of the Caribbean for the Wii-
Jr.: Maybe he's called Will Turner because he turns cranks good and he does what people say.  "I will."
Nichole:  No, that's just his name.

Happy Bird Day to You

January 5th is National Bird Day.  It is also a Saturday so I let the kids be somewhat lazy and they got to watch several movies.  But only if they could relate them to birds.  So they watched The Court Jester (it has homing pigeons in it), Ratatouille (because birds that sleep during the day- owls- eat rats), and Surf's Up (because obviously penguins are birds).  I love their creativity, figuring out ways to relate things to what we're celebrating.  Jr. used to do that all the time with Wii games so he could play them.  "Oh, it's National Bird Day?  Skyward Sword has birds in it, so we should play that."

For dinner, we had Bruschetta Chicken Bake, a recipe from the back of the Stove Top stuffing box, since chickens are birds.
Jeremy pointed out the kids ate like birds at dinner, but tonight they fought like cats and dogs.  Sigh.
After dinner the kids colored pictures of hummingbirds.

At bedtime, Nichole argued that she wanted to keep reading at "lights out" because the book she was reading mentioned birds in it.  The lights still went out.
And a blanket Jeremy was using had a bird on it.

Now that Nichole and Jr. are in bed, I plan to watch Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds."  At least some of it.
Other ways to celebrate National Bird Day could be to draw a picture of a bird or have a discussion about the bluebird of happiness and how you can find happiness right in your own home with your own family.

National Trivia Day 2013

Here's a bit of trivia for you:  Do you know what we've been doing all day?

Coming up with pieces of trivia.  Looking up answers to questions that have been popping into our minds.
Well, doing these trivial trivia things throughout the day as we did other things like cleaning, organizing, making food, etc. etc. etc.  Oh, and having some fun as well.  Nichole decided to make a sword out of popsicle sticks.  Jeremy showed her a wooden sword he's had for years.  They had fun with those.

Science Fiction Day Observed

January 2 was Science Fiction Day.  Jeremy and I did watch some X-Files last night, but our real celebrating was today.  Why?  Because our belated Christmas present came by Fed Ex today.

The First and Fifth Series of Doctor Who.  Yeah.  Guess what we're watching now (though I'm taking a quick break to write this blog post).  We watched some more X-Files this morning then I went to the library to check out A Wrinkle in Time.  I mentioned before that 2012 was the 50th anniversary of when the book was published, but we didn't get around to reading it last year.  So we started reading it to the kids this evening.  And guess what else.

They had a 50th Anniversary Edition at the library.  I had to get that one since that was the reason we thought to read it to the kids in the first place.

We also let Jr. play some Lego Star Wars on the Wii to celebrate.

Woohoo for science fiction!

New Year's... Baby?

You know how people get all excited about the first babies to be born in a new year?  Well, how about the first teeth to be lost in a new year.  Last night, January 1, 2013, the loose tooth Nichole had been working on came out.  She was excited.
Happy New Year.
