Spring Break

Let's talk about Spring Break... for three of our kids. Last week was Spring Break... for three of our kids. Here are some of the holidays we celebrated (besides what I already mentioned in my April 9, 2026 post).
April 7 was National No Housework Day. I didn't tell the kids that was the holiday and asked them to clean. Bwah ha ha ha. But I celebrated.

April 8 was Draw a Picture of a Bird Day. This is what Nichole created.
She's awesome. I love that I could immediately tell it was a red-tailed hawk. Gorgeous.

April 10 was National Siblings Day. I encouraged a couple of my kids to wish each other a Happy that holiday but forgot to wish it to any of my own siblings even though I planned to.
It was also National Farm Animals Day. For dinner the night before, I made red beans and rice and hush puppies and garlic parmesan asparagus. On April 10, we had leftovers (including the beans and rice that had Polish sausage made out of what? Farm animals!) and I made more hush puppies.

This exchange happened while I was making them.

Jet: What are the dog things you are making called?
Mom: Hush puppies.

He's so adorable.

Other Things that Happened in June

We didn't just celebrate holidays in June. Here are some of the other things we did.
There was a neighborhood breakfast with games and food.

Lucky learned a new skill- making roses out of napkins. He made a whole lot, which I didn't mind because we had a huge package of napkins from the store so we weren't running out. And they looked cute.

There was lots of chess playing.

Annual Jugglers' Barbecue. It was so good to be around performers again.

Jr. Jr. and another boy got to give a lesson in Young Men. They worked on their lesson in our house. I appreciated seeing the time and effort they put into it.

We went to visit friends we hadn't seen in a few years. The kids had no problem playing with each other again. We, adults, had a great conversations.

The boys got some well needed haircuts. He are some before and after shots.

Lucky wanted me to cut off a huge chunk of the front of his hair. So I did. Then he wanted me to leave it that way. So I did. For several days. He wanted to go out in public like that. So we did.

The things I do for my kids.

Eventually I was able to give him a decent haircut.

I think Lucky's going through a grumpy face stage. He's not unhappy, he just wants to look that way for pictures. Sigh.
I took him and Jet to Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point while the older kids were at Youth Camp and he looked grumpy again while riding a horse.
Besides riding a real horse, Jet wanted to ride every fake animal he could find. Lucky got involved with that with him.
Later Jet got to milk a real cow and Lucky got a squished penny.
And of course, Jet got to slide on the slide again.

I got a picture of all three of the older kids before they went off to Youth Camp but only a picture of Jr. when he got back. They all came back in different vehicles. Two of them got dropped off at home and one I picked up from the church.
Nichole crocheted a cat for her secret sister. She just sat down and crocheted it. No pattern. Just created it. That's talent.

Other things:
Jr. is learning to drive.

We had some fun with balloons. Jeremy had several sculptures to build so I delivered some so he could keep building.
Lucky got to use leftover balloons to make his own creations.

We got some of those balloon perks again. Jeremy brought home Chick-fil-a sandwiches for us after one event.
Another night he "crashed" Marcus's neighborhood barbecue to make balloon animals for the kids. It was a pleasant surprise. His wife sent Jeremy home with hamburgers. Yummmm.

Lots going on but I'm glad I'm finally getting around to catching up.

The Anniversary That Wasn't Really

You know how sometimes people will celebrate their anniversary by running off to a hotel or an airbnb? That's what Jeremy and I did this year... with our kids. Repairs and renovations were being made on the house we live in and we stayed a few days at an airbnb. I keep telling you- chaos.

Jeremy worked on our anniversary but had the next day off so we were going to have our traditional anniversary dinner with the kids the evening of our anniversary then go out and celebrate with just the two of us the next day.
But... plans don't always work out. A couple of the kids had important assignments to work on so Jeremy and I couldn't leave Jet so we took him to Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point. He loved it and loved riding on the horses and feeding the animals. He especially liked playing on the slide and would not stop. I had to carry him out because we had to go back in time for the boys getting done with school.

Life may be chaos and we weren't able to celebrate our anniversary how we would have liked but we sure are glad we married each other and that our relationship is still strong.

Farm Writer Siblings

Saturday, April 10, the kids and I went for a drive around West Mountain.

It was National Farm Animals Day so besides birds, I told the kids to be on the lookout for farm animals. We saw chickens, sheep, horses, and the cows were very obliging walking on the road and being right next to the road.

When we got home I told the kids they could do some writing as it was Encourage a Young Writer Day.

They enjoyed their time together, those siblings. April 10 was also National Siblings Day.
