Big Family Day

We had a big family day today.  First we went to the new Museum of Natural Curiosity at Thanksgiving Point.  It hasn't opened yet but they are trying to get the word out about it.  So they're letting certain people in from time to time.  Because of Jeremy's working relationship with Thanksgiving Point, we were invited to go see the museum.  Jeremy had already had a tour last month so he was able to point out some things to us that we might not have seen on our own.

Some of the areas aren't quite finished (they still have more than a month before it opens on May 15th), but we were able to easily spend three full hours there.  And we didn't even see everything that was already available.  There were a lot of people there today.  I kept thinking it's amazing how many people are here for it not being open yet.  We had fun.

Look, it's the key tree.

A play area just for kids age 0-3 (they have special areas for little ones in each of the main sections).
You can tell Jr. Jr. likes something when he keeps bringing it up over and over.  In one of the play areas for younger kids, you (the little child) could put vegetables in these rabbits' mouths.
They would say something about the veggie you put in.  Either the name of the vegetable, its shape, or its color.  Jr. Jr. loved that when he put the carrot in the rabbit's mouth, the rabbit said, "Carrot."  He kept mentioning it throughout the day.

There was so much to do, Jeremy described it as being "like Family Home Evening activities on steroids."

After the museum, we made a brief stop for Jeremy to have a quick meeting about some upcoming balloon sculptures for Thanksgiving Point.  We headed home for a bathroom, etc. break, then headed out again.

Fast food for lunch and then bird watching.  After all, April 8 is Draw a Picture of a Bird Day.
This evening we had a chance to draw pictures of birds.  Jr. called me over to see his picture that he drew.
Ha Ha Ha.  He even labeled it.  red eyed tree frog (click on the picture to see it larger)
He turned the paper over to show me the picture of an owl he drew.
Such a cute boy.

Nichole drew a picture of a hummingbird.  She had been so excited earlier to see that the museum had an activity where you can compare how many times you flap your arms to how many times a hummingbird flaps its wings.

Jr. Jr. drew a picture of a "bird," too.
I drew a picture of this bird that we saw while bird watching.
Jeremy also drew some birds.
It was a good family day.

  1. If there had been pelicans out I would have taken pictures and drawn a pelican. Instead I got a Canadian Goose. Which is fine.
