Sandwiches!

April 11 was National Submarine Day. There was definitely some singing of The Beatles song, "Yellow Submarine," in our home. I was going to make submarine sandwiches but Jeremy picked up some croissants at the store so I made Asian Chicken Salad Sandwiches from A Season of Family Meal Plans, volume 1, on croissants instead. As a side dish, I roasted some veggies in the oven. Jet was my big helper in the kitchen. I cut up veggies and he put them in a mixing bowl. We had apples to round out the meal. Yum.

April 12 was Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day. We ate grilled cheese sandwiches.

Submarine Day 2022

April 11 was National Submarine Day so we had meatball subs for dinner.
Jet helped me make buns using a Mel's Kitchen Cafe recipe for fluffy whole wheat dinner rolls. I think he was a little confused when I actually gave him permission to punch down the dough. Usually he likes to poke it on his own and especially when I don't want him to.
I used frozen meatballs but got a homemade marinara sauce recipe from Six Sisters' Stuff to put in the sub and put provolone cheese on top. Yumm. Then I tried a new recipe from Budget Bytes for bacon and spinach pasta with parmesan for a side dish. Also yumm.

I also put on "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles and the Kingsmen singing "Louie Louie" to celebrate International Louie Louie Day, which is actually a holiday about that song. Yeah, I went around much of the day singing, "Louie Louie," unintelligibly.

What They Missed- August 5

Thursday, August 5-
Work Like a Dog Day. We danced to The Beatles music including "A Hard Day's Night" because of the line, "I've been working like a dog."

I worked hard that day. The boys rebuilt the fort and played with Jet a lot so I could get a lot done.
It was also Oyster Day so we snacked on Oyster Crackers.
Jeremy and the two oldest worked like dogs, too. And in the words of The Beatles, they "should be sleeping like a log."
Jr. denies he was sleeping in this picture but Jeremy assured me he was in that position a good half an hour before he woke.
