Superb Owl Sunday Sketches

In September I took the kids to Back to Hogwarts Night at the Orem Library. Nichole took this picture of an owl while we were there.
This was the picture they based Sunday Sketches on for Superb Owl Sunday.

I Learned Some New Skills

Superb Owl Sunday was on February 8. Jeremy, Nichole, Jr. Jr., Lucky, and Jet all contributed to Sunday Sketches. I will post about that later.
Jeremy fed us some Rootinest Tootinest Breakfanootinest Casserole (his own creation- we haven't had it in years, though).
Since the weather was nice, I wanted to take a nice relaxing drive in the afternoon. Several of us got in the van and went for a drive through Provo Canyon, around Deer Creek Reservoir, up into Midway, around Heber Fields, and back through downtown Heber, around Deer Creek Reservoir, and through Provo Canyon again, where we had a tire blow out after we got out of the canyon.
So I got to learn some new skills and recognize many blessings. If I was on my own (without Jeremy), I would have freaked out. As it was, we were both able to support each other. Jeremy looked up YouTube videos and was able to get the spare tire out of the trunk (and managed to get the old tire off and into the trunk- it was heavy). I was able to crawl down on the ground and figure out where to put the jack. We both took turns lifting the van with the jack. I got to put the spare on and put the lug nuts back on. Jeremy did more tightening than I did. We both got to see that the spare was flat so I called some friends and since we were not too far from home (huge blessing), I was able to get a ride home to get our portable air compressor and drive back with our other vehicle. Then I got the experience of learning how to use the air compressor to fill up the spare tire. Jeremy and I worked well together. That's another blessing.
It was a beautiful night. Kids were well behaved. Nichole took Jet walking up and down the sidewalk because we pulled over off the main road to a road that didn't have much traffic. Jet was well behaved in his cute Seahawks jacket. I put that on him because the Seattle Seahawks were playing in the Super Bowl that day (and won). Jr. Jr. kept himself entertained by juggling.
It ended up not being too late when we got home, too.
The next day, I was able to get kids to school then drove to get a new tire. I got to read some more of The Hobbit at the tire store while I waited and then found out the tire was still under warranty. Woohoo. Yay for more blessings.

Catching Up February 2025 part 1

Saturday, February 1, was World Read Aloud Day and Take Your Child to the Library Day so what a great day to go to the Orem Library's event, "Bring Your Child to the Library Day." Jet and I went to do some activities and get little stamps (stickers) in his "passport."
His favorite was the dragon sticker. He noticed that it matched the dragon in the junior fiction area of the library and was excited to see it.
That day was also Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. Sometimes I keep this holiday to myself. This year, we had some fun with it as a family. We all had ice cream in waffle cone bowls.
Sunday, February 2, was Groundhog Day and Tater Tot Day. We had our traditional imitation groundhog burgers but this year they were black bean burgers based on "Buckbean Burgers." We had tater tots on the side.
Monday, February 3, was Feed the Birds Day. How appropriate that that was closing night of Lucky's play, Mary Poppins Jr. For Christmas Lucky got a shirt based on a line in the play. Mary Poppins uses a measuring tape to find out that Michael is a "noisy, mischievous, troublesome little boy." Lucky's shirt shows a measuring tape and the shirt says, "I'm not really a '...noisy, mischievous, troublesome little boy.' I just act that way."
Tuesday, February 4, was Homemade Soup Day. I made Bowtie Minestrone Soup from "A Season of Family Meal Plans," volume 1, by Jordan Page.
Wednesday, February 5, was World Nutella Day. We had Nutella sandwiches.
Friday, February 7, was Fettuccine Alfredo Day. We ate fettuccine alfredo with the yummy alfredo sauce we always make from ourbestbites.com, "Guiltless Alfredo Sauce."
Sunday, February 9, was National Pizza Day. Since it was also Superb Owl Sunday (we're not really sports fans but we are fans of birds), we started with pizza and ended with a big spread of appetizers and snacks. Yumm. I, of course, also wore the owl earrings I got as a prize from the UCB challenge.
Monday, February 10, was Cream Cheese Brownie Day. We made cheesecake brownie bites from "A Season of Family Meal Plans," volume 1.
That's enough catching up for now. More later.
Bye.

Superb Owl Sunday 2023

February 12 was the Super Bowl. We don't care about football. What we do care about are birds. So a nice relaxing walk around a cemetery is appropriate for Superb Owl Sunday. Last year it was just Jeremy and me. This year we brought along all the kids except Jr. Jet fell asleep on the drive so I stayed in the van while Jeremy, Nichole, Jr. Jr., and Lucky looked for owls and collected owl pellets.
They heard a great horned owl but weren't able to spot it. They still got to hear that superb owl.
When we got home I threw a freezer meal in the instant pot because we were running out of time.

Earlier in the day we went to church at my sister's ward. Her daughter is in the same ward and my niece's husband was blessing their new baby and my sister was giving a talk. During Sacrament Meeting, Jeremy, Nichole, and Lucky were all drawing a superb owl- a great gray owl. I won't show you the original picture since it's not ours but here are their "Sunday Sketches."
In order- Jeremy, Nichole, and Lucky.

I accidentally ripped Lucky's picture but you can still see it. Well done, everybody.

Superb Owl Sunday

It's Superb Owl Sunday! There was something called the Super Bowl happening today but I don't actually care about football so I don't even know who won. Wait, let me check.
Ah, the Rams won. The only reason I knew the Rams were playing against the Bengals was because of a food blog that mentioned it. Hey, food and snacks are a big part of a Super Bowl party, right?
Actually, one of the players for the Bengals used to go to the high school that my daughter goes to so that was a big thing from the high school wishing him well as well as the city wishing him well. Too bad it didn't work out so well for him and his team this time. They did make it to the Super Bowl, though.
But you know me. I'd rather celebrate Superb Owl Sunday.
It of course started with Jeremy drawing a picture during church. This is a spider owl.
Yeah, that's what I thought, too.

Jeremy and I went out for a nice relaxing drive and a nice relaxing walk. We saw a great horned owl
a black-crowned night heron that was in such a position it kind of looked like an owl,
and a Northern harrier that has an owl like face.
We enjoyed seeing other birds, too.
I'd say it was a good Superb Owl Sunday.

Since tomorrow is Valentine's Day, we decided to celebrate it today at home. Like last year, when we got home from our drive, the kids brought us in to have a candlelit dinner for two. Jr. Jr. and Lucky greeted us at our vehicle and led us in.
There was a table set up, this time with a giant Valentine's card I had made for Jeremy. It had a message with different kinds of candy taped to it, you know that kind of note. The boys were so happy to have been a part of helping with that, having it there for Dad to see. Jr. Jr. and Lucky had also written a bunch of sweet notes for us.
The kids provided dinner and entertainment. I love that besides the candle, Jr. brought out the flower he made for me last Valentine's as a centerpiece.
I'd say it was a successful Superb Owl Sunday and Valentine's Day (observed).

Superb Owl Sunday

We're not really football watchers.  We're bird watchers.  So instead of celebrating Super Bowl Sunday this year, we celebrated Superb Owl Sunday.
This is how Jeremy kept awake in Sacrament Meeting today.

Don't you just love it.  I do.  Jeremy based his drawing on this photograph of a burrowing owl we took a couple years ago.  I love it.
