Kite Day Observed

May 12 is Kite Day.  We couldn't celebrate it on that day this year since we went to Nichole's wax museum that night.
We've been wanting to fly kites at the beach ever since we went there on a somewhat windy evening during Screen Free Week.  There were a couple of young ladies there with kites and we talked about doing that for Kite Day, except we couldn't do it on the actual holiday.
So we were finally able to celebrate Kite Day (Observed) today.  Hooray!
And... there was no wind.  Sigh.  So the kids did a lot of running to get their kites in the air.  We still had fun, though, and stayed out way too late and I'm so tired writing this blog post so I need to make it short and put some pictures on here so I can go to bed because in the morning I've got to deal with kids who didn't get enough sleep so I need to make sure I'm rested enough to deal with it.  Sigh.
O.K.  Pictures of Kite Day Observed:
We were smart this time and wore aquasocks so it wasn't as big a deal when some of the kids got their feet in the water.
By the time we were done, though, we were so worn out.
It was a great family evening.

Kite Day 2015

Kite Day, May 12.  For after school snack, we had kite sandwiches, then the kids and I headed out to a park.

It was beautiful weather- nice and windy.  We spent about two minutes flying our new dollar store kite before it broke.  None of the kids even got to fly it.  Sigh.
So the kids got to play on the playground before we headed home.
Hey, at least we still celebrated.

Kite Day 2012

It's Kite Day, May 12th.  It's a great day to go to a favorite park and let the kite fly.

Or if you're not able to make it to the park, it's also a great day to watch Mary Poppins and to sing along with "Let's Go Fly a Kite."
That's what we're going to do this year.  At least I was able to get pictures of Jr. at a park the other day when it was very windy.
Another thing you could do could be to give the kids some paper, scissors, and decorations so they can make their own "kites."
Or make a kite-themed treat to enjoy on this day.

It's so fun to look back at pictures of my kids one and two years ago around the same time of year.  Hooray for blogging.

How are you celebrating Kite Day?

Kite Day 2011

Yesterday, May 12th, was Kite Day. As has been our custom lately, Jeremy made shaped pancakes- kite shaped pancakes. He even made a smiley face pancake to show how happy we were to have kite shaped pancakes.

Then guess what we did. You got it. We went to a local park and... flew kites.

Well, the kids did most of the flying, Jeremy showed the kids what to do, I ran around with the camera, and Jr. Jr. did his usual thing of sleeping in the stroller. There wasn't that much wind, but it was Kite Day, so we had to go kite flying anyway. The kids ended up with plenty of exercise getting their kites up while running.

And from time to time a little breeze would pick up. Enough for the kids to stand still for a few seconds.

It was a good family activity.

P.S. If you want to know a simple snack to go with the Kite Day theme, check out May 12th on our Calendar of Celebration.
