Lunar New Year Celebration at the Library

Monday, February 9, was National Pizza Day.

Since I had plans to take family members to the Lunar New Year Celebration at the Orem Library, we had to do quick pizza celebrating.
I managed to get pizzas put together but they needed to be put in the oven. I didn't have time since I was going to pick up Nichole from campus and pick up Lucky from rehearsal before quickly eating and getting to the library.
I figured Nichole would be able to put the pizzas in the oven so this is the conversation I had with Jr. Jr. and Jet.

Mom: Nichole will be in charge of putting the pizzas in the oven when I get back.
Jr. Jr.: Got it. Jet will be in charge of putting the pizzas in the oven.
Jet: No. I'll be in charge of taste testing the pizzas.

Have I mentioned how much I love my family?

I got everybody home, we ate, then Jr. Jr., Jet, and I went to the library for the celebration.
Jet and I made a Chinese lantern. We trotted like horses because it is going to be the year of the Horse. We did a scavenger hunt and earned fortune cookies.
Jet took a break to play with things in the main area of the children's section.
Jr. Jr. took that time to juggle. I love that he likes to continually learn new tricks.
We went back to watch the Lion dancing in the auditorium.
Then Jet played some more and we went home.
Nice night. And we ate pizza.

Lunar New Year 2023

The Lunar New Year was on January 22 this year. Year of the Rabbit.
The night before, the mall had fireworks which the kids listened to.
Jr. Jr., Jr., Nichole, and I made a trip to Salt Lake City the evening of the New Year while Jeremy made Chinese food for us. We then ate that yummy food for the next few days.
We went for an event at the Conference Center. It was cold and snowy while we were in Salt Lake City and we walked a lot because I didn't want to pay for parking on a Sunday and I didn't realize how many free spots were closer to our destination. It's been a while since I've been up to Salt Lake City.
Jr. Jr. did get his first ride on TRAX, though.
On a trip to the Orem Library another day, Jet and I saw the dragon the librarians made for the Lunar New Year. Some of the scales had been decorated by children at the library.
Jeremy got to build some balloon sculptures.

We have yet to eat fortune cookies because I keep forgetting to get them out of the pantry. But here are a couple fortunes Jeremy got.

Perfect Date Day

April 25 wasn't too hot and it wasn't too cold. Jeremy wore a light jacket. I didn't. I just wore short sleeves when I went out. It was warm enough for that. Have you seen Miss Congeniality? One of the contestants in the beauty pageant scholarship program is asked what her idea of the perfect date is and her answer is April 25. Heh Heh.
April 25 was also World Penguin Day so the kids ate fish sticks and watched some of Penguin: Spy in the Huddle. Jeremy and I had our perfect date food- Winco salads. It's become our thing.

For Family Home Evening treat that night, we had fortune cookies to celebrate East Meets West Day and Nichole explained to us that fortune cookies are an American invention based on a Japanese recipe.

World Nutella Day and Chinese New Year

February 5 was World Nutella Day.  We opened up some hazelnut spread and everybody had it on their sandwiches at lunch.  Speaking of lunches, Lucky, Jeremy, and I got to go eat lunch at the boys' school with them.
I also took the opportunity to open my box of Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolates and share with my family.  Yes, I'm so nice.

That evening for dinner, however, we celebrated Chinese New Year.  Year of the Pig.  Mmmmmm, food.  Not so simple this year. We had orange chicken, egg rolls, chow mein, stir fry vegetables cooked in Yoshida gourmet sauce, rice, oranges, and of course fortune cookies we ate after scripture study.
Jr. was having a lot of fun being silly so after everyone read their fortunes, he was playing around and stuck his fortune in his mouth.  Sadly, the fortunes are not meant to be eaten and was unhappy that I wouldn't be able to get a picture of his fortune since on the back side of the fortune, it teaches how to say something in Chinese.  His was Po-Ta-To.  So... since Nichole remembered what his fortune said and through the power of the internet to re-find out how to say it in Chinese, Jr. made himself a new fortune and he was able to have it in the picture with the rest of the fortunes.
It was a nice day.  Busy, but nice.

Chinese New Year 2017

Welcome, Year of the Rooster- the fire rooster.  January 28 this year was Chinese New Year.
While Jeremy was at work, Jr. Jr. taught his siblings how to make lanterns.  They had fun with that.
I spent some time making food (Jeremy and I had made some things ahead of time, but there was still plenty to do).
Jeremy brought a big fire rooster home with him from work
"He's a chicken, I tell ya'.  A giant chicken."
Name that TV show- the kids got to watch some earlier in the day.

Jeremy also brought home a Chinese knot so we had plenty of decorations.
He also helped me finish up the food which was yummy... again.  Thanks, Jeremy.
Lucky also helped.

We had Orange Chicken and Not Orange Chicken, Ham Fried Rice, Egg Rolls, Chow Mein.
Of course we had fortune cookies at the end.  Here are a few of our fortunes.

A Couple Holidays

O.K.  So, I didn't blog about Chinese New Year yet.  Chinese New Year was February 19 this year.
We ate Chinese food.
Jeremy got some chopsticks from a show that he did and showed the kids how to use them for eating Chinese food.
We also had fortune cookies.  Here are some of the fortunes.

February 25 is Zeppo Marx's birthday.  We had cupcakes.  Lucky was more interested in eating them this time than he was on Frank Sinatra's birthday.
So cute.
