A Nutella Weekend

It was a Nutella kind of weekend. Friday the 5th of February was World Nutella Day so we had Nutella sandwiches.
It was also National Wear Red Day. I kept reminding the kids all morning and even the night before, "Wear red. Wear red," then I went and put on a grey shirt without thinking and never changed to a red shirt even when I did think about it. Sigh.
I did however read aloud to Jet for World Read Aloud Day on that same day. You should have seen me getting into Hand Hand Fingers Thumb and drumming on a big can. "Dum Ditty Dum Ditty Dum Dum Dum."
For after school snack that same day, we celebrated Bubble Gum Day with gumballs that came through Nichole's candy dispenser THAT SHE MADE!
She made it in one of her classes last year. How cool is that?

Saturday the 6th of February was the anniversary of when Alan Shepard hit golf balls on the moon. We ate "astronaut sandwiches" made with tortillas and... you guessed it- Nutella.
I also tried out a new recipe for macaroni and cheese to celebrate National Cheddar Day on that day.

Sunday the 7th of February some family members ate more Nutella. I told you it was a Nutella weekend. Nichole took some time to play Swan Lake music on her recorder to celebrate Ballet Day.

National Gumdrop Day 2015

Happy National Gumdrop Day, February 15.

Get it?  Gum... Drop?  Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Jeremy's idea.  He's so clever.
So, there's a story behind this pack of gum.
Jeremy and I both remember grape bubble gum from our childhood.  You know the good stuff- Bubblicious, Bubble Yum, those type brands.  Sure they had different flavors but grape was the most memorable.  We wanted to get some bubble gum to teach our kids to blow real bubbles and of course we wanted to get grape flavored.  We couldn't find grape bubble gum.  We looked at several different stores.  No grape Bubble Yum.  No grape Bubblicious.  We couldn't find grape.  Aaagh.  We had to settle for strawberry flavored for blowing bubbles with the kids.
Then one day Jeremy was on his way to a show several hours away and stopped at a gas station.  He was inside looking around and happened to spot Bubblicious gum- grape flavored!  He bought a pack for me.  Awww.
So now we know if we want grape flavored bubble gum, we just have to send Jeremy a few hours away to get it.  Although honestly, we haven't checked the gas stations around here.  We just don't often go inside them.  Who knows?  Maybe the grape bubble gum is hiding right where we're not looking.
Anyway, enjoy your Gumdrop Day.  I know I did.

National Garlic Day 2013

Today was a good day.  Some highlights-
Jr. Jr. and I went for a walk around Manila Creek Pond.  We went to see the ducks and we saw ducks, swallows, fish jumping, Canadian geese, a killdeer, deer, a type of hawk, and another bird flying around that we didn't get the best look at.  We also saw some people fishing.  But it was cold so we could only make it once around the pond before we had to get back to the car to warm up and go home.
For dinner we had spaghetti and garlic bread since April 19th is National Garlic Day.  The kids helped make the garlic bread.  Jr. Jr. put the bread on the cookie sheet, Jr. spread the butter, and Nichole sprinkled the garlic salt.

We had Family Home Evening tonight and for the treat and activity, we opened a package of Bubblicious to teach the older kids how to blow bubbles.  It took a while, but by the end both kids were able to sort of blow a few bubbles.  We let them know it will take practice.  We'll get another of those good bubble blowing bubble gums sometime and do it again.  This one was strawberry flavored, but my husband and I both have fond memories of our childhood chewing grape flavored bubble gum.  Unfortunately, I cannot find any anywhere.  I can find strawberry, watermelon, and bubble gum flavors, but not grape.  Ack.  Does anybody know where I can find grape flavored Bubblicous/Bubble Yum/any of those good bubble blowing bubble gums?
Oh well.  It was a good day.
