On July 20, 1969, man first walked on the moon. I'm finally getting around to blogging how we celebrated the anniversary this year.
We started with moon shaped pancakes. Tee Hee.
While driving in the car, we sang songs with "moon" in the lyrics, such as "Blue Moon" and "That's Amore" ("When the moon hits the sky...").
I told the kids it would be fun to do everything slowly like astronauts walking on the moon.
And of course, it's always fun to give your food fun names to go along with what you're celebrating. For dinner we had "moon nuggets" and "lunar wraps."
What other ideas do you have for celebrating Moon Day?

Pioneer Day 2011
We had a good evening. Some of our ward members were performing at a Concert in the Park (free Sunday evening performances during the Summer).
It was nice. After the concert, we went driving around Pleasant Grove, scouting out a few parks for our upcoming Park Week. We drove up by the Mount Timpanogos Temple (always a pleasant family activity) and watched fireworks as we drove like we watch Christmas lights in the Winter.
When we got home, both boys were asleep and some of the neighbors were setting off fireworks in the parking lot. Since Nichole was still awake and behaving well, we let her watch them for a while.

Who Wants to be a Pioneer?
Bed sheet hanging from the top bunk. Instant covered wagon.
Happy Pioneer Day!
(or weekend as the case is in Utah- when it falls on a Sunday, Utah celebrates Saturday through Monday)

Visitors
We've been blessed with some awesome visitors this Summer. I got to see my parents twice in a couple months. Two of my brothers came to spend a few days with us in June. And recently Jeremy's parents spent about a week with us while they were in Utah to take Jeremy's youngest brother to the MTC. We got to spend a few days with all three of them, then a few more days with just the parents.
I love family.

Hurray, Elder Telford!

KAT's Kreation- Flower Clips
Nichole has been asking for flower clips for her hair for months and months, ever since a friend gave her one. I finally got around to making some for her birthday. They were really easy, once I finally found the supplies I was looking for. And they took less time to make than it took me to write this blog post.
This is what I did.
Supplies:
Hair clips with openings in at least the top
Silk flowers (I got an assortment from doodlebug design inc. at the craft store)
Brads, a.k.a. paper fasteners
Instructions:
Make a hole in the middle of a silk flower. Stick the brad through the hole. Stick the brad through the opening in the hair clip and open the brad.
Note: I used regular paper fasteners that you find at an office supply store. Unfortunately I couldn't find shorter than 1-inch at the store, so that's what I went with. I figure I can use them for plenty of other projects. You can use fancier brads from the craft store if you wish.
It worked out and Nichole was pleased.

Since my paper fasteners were so long, I wrapped each side around the top of the clip but under the flower.

Gummi Worm Day 2011
Today is Gummi Worm Day. So pull out your favorite Dirt recipe, throw in some gummi worms and enjoy your gummi... bears?
We didn't plan ahead and get gummi worms or make Dirt this year (we've had visitors), but our visitors brought us Gummi Bears
and Pop Rocks.
Jr. wasn't so sure what he thought about that first mouthful.
By the way, it's been a while since I've made Dirt. Does anyone have a recipe they like that I can put on this blog?
I should clarify since my husband suggested I go outside with a spoon and attack the ground. I mean chocolate dirt, Jeremy. With gummi worms.
