Beware the Ides of March 2022

March 15 was the Ides of March. Beware. Beware. We had a salad bar with Caesar dressing and we "ate two fruit-e" and to drink, orange julius.

Earlier in the day, Jet and I got out to Carterville Park for some fresh air. He was happy to go for a walk then was happy to get to just run and run and run and play with pine cones and watch Mommy juggle pinecones.
He became very interested in a twig off a pine tree that had needles on it. It was like a little mini tree but he couldn't figure out how to get it to stand up on its own like a normal tree does.
Oh, it's felt so good to get out in the fresh air lately.

Fresh Air After Sickness

Fresh air is a wonderful thing after you've been sick. When I was starting to feel better, I went out for a walk one morning. It was such a nice morning that I got away with wearing a sweatshirt and not a heavy coat. Later I was surprised to find out it was snowing. I told you March didn't come in like a lion but we've had a few snowstorms.
As I walked near the lake I was pleased to find I was being serenaded by red-winged blackbirds. It was so pleasant.
At one point I thought about turning around instead of making a loop. I'm glad I didn't. If I had, I wouldn't have seen the great blue heron and green-winged teals and other birds that were a little farther on.
Another neat thing was the group of Canada geese flying around that flew so close to me I could hear their wings flap right over my head. I LOVE BIRDS!
The last bird I saw before getting back in the van was a bald eagle that was flying around. I love it.
Another day, Jet and I went out for a walk (or walks because we went for walks in two different spots).
There's a good reason to bring a camera and binoculars when I go out for walks. At a duck pond, besides the park ducks, we saw a female hooded merganser.
We ended up at Utah Lake State Park to look at gulls and a bald eagle.
There was a gull in my way where I was driving so I slowed down and stopped to give it time to move. As soon as I stopped, a bunch of other gulls flew down right in front of me. I had to start moving just so they would move. It gave me a chuckle.
It was gorgeous and so nice to get some fresh air with my walking buddy.

Celebrating Meals

Last Saturday, November 5 was Guy Fawkes Day.  It's also known as Bonfire Night or Fireworks Night.  What goes well with bonfires or fireworks?  Hot dogs, chips, potato salad, and lemonade.  So that's what we had for dinner.  Well, except for the lemonade.  We didn't realize we were out of lemonade colored flavored sugar water so we had grape colored instead.

I don't think I ate any of it.  Lucky and I weren't feeling very well that day.

Yesterday, November 8, was Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day.  We had spaghetti with garlic bread.
Since it was also Bram Stoker's birthday, Jeremy took some pictures of bat boxes while he was out birding.

It was election day and it took less time voting than we were expecting.  We got an early start and took turns and still got done before the kids went to school.  I was expecting the whole day to be taken up with voting but I was okay that it wasn't.  So then we took turns birding.
I was still not feeling the best, but it was good to get out in the fresh air and at times just listen to birds.  I did a lot of sitting, but one of the times I was standing taking pictures of black-capped chickadees, one flew right at me and almost landed on me.  Unfortunately I was looking through the camera at the time so the fluttering by my hand and head completely surprised me and I flinched.  I think I surprised the chickadee, too.
I love birds.
