Family Home Evening Circus

One day after school, Jet was excited to show us he got circus tickets. How fun. Now we knew we weren't going to take him to the actual circus but we knew we could create a circus at home.
My idea for it was watching a circus movie and eating popcorn. Simple celebrating like we did with Drive-In Movie Day.
Jeremy, awesome husband that he is, suggested some other ideas somewhat last minute to add to the "experience" so it was still simple but this is how it turned out for Family Home Evening this week (when we finally got around to doing this activity).
Jet picked a family member to come with him to the "circus" because he had two tickets. He kept changing his mind so I don't know who finally came with him but it doesn't matter because again it was mostly for him.
So... he (and his guest) presented his tickets to whoever was taking them. We had "Entry of the Gladiators" (the epitome of circus music) playing while they watched Jr. Jr. juggle light up balls.
Lucky made Jet a balloon animal.
Jeremy filled the stock pot to the top with popcorn.
We also had more gummy sharks (because Jr. Jr. requested them) and some peanuts.
At one point I looked at the kids on the couch and said, "And there are the clowns." Tee Hee. They're so patient with me.
Actually Jeremy showed the kids a picture of him with clown makeup on and I complained about how I never liked clown makeup when it was requested for shows. Yeah, we can do circus things.
We watched the movie, The Greatest Showman, because... of course. I didn't fall asleep and watched the whole thing.

A Lucky Birthday

We split Lucky's birthday up this year between two days.
On his birthday, he took balloon animals to his classmates at school. Jeremy made him three designs to take. Snowman, narwhal, and penguin with a scarf. All cute.

That evening we had cake and ice cream and he opened cards and his present. Jet did not blow out his candles, even though Lucky arranged them himself so they were easy to blow out. The boys kept arguing about the shape being a 9 or a 6.

Another day we had his birthday dinner. Again, for being the pickiest eater, he sure had a lot of food he wanted for his dinner.
He saw the blog post for what he had for his birthday dinner last year and said he wanted the same things (with a substitution or two). I ended up not being able to do all of his requests but I for sure made the challah bread.

O.K. I have to share a bit of cuteness. Jet was sitting on my lap as I put together this blog post. He saw the pictures of the candles on the cake and started blowing. So cute.

Adopt a Balloon Animal Day 2018

February 24 is Adopt a Balloon Animal Day.  To celebrate, our family went with other birders to the Snow Goose Festival in Delta.  It was coooooold but this year we made sure everyone had scarves and gloves and other needed gear for being in the cold.  It was so cold the reservoir was frozen so there were no geese on the water.  We had to find them in the fields or flying around.  It was still fun to see them.

We continued birding on the way home.  At one spot we stopped to look at evening grosbeaks and mountain bluebirds.
Jeremy had made balloon snow geese and Ross's geese for the birders so he handed them out then (with some help from Lucky).  Our birding friends enjoyed the balloons.
We were also celebrating Jeremy's birthday so we had yummy cake with the birders.  It was still sooooooo cold.  It was a lot of fun, though.
It was fun to see so many different birds and spend time celebrating with these birders and with our awesome family.

World Record

Today was a long day.
But it was worth it.
Jeremy broke the world record for largest modelling balloon sculpture by an individual.  He made a huge long balloon dog out of thousands of balloons.
He worked on it all week.  15 hour days, Monday through Friday, and a few hours today before the measuring and official announcement of getting the record.
After it was all over, we went home and had our own long hot dogs for dinner.
And since July 25 is National Hot Fudge Sundae Day, we also celebrated with hot fudge sundaes with homemade hot fudge sauce and sprinkles for the kids (I had walnuts on mine).
The kids deserved to be rewarded after the long day.
At one point, Jeremy called me into the kitchen saying, "Lucky has a huge pile of sprinkles in front of him and two spoons in his hand.  Bring the camera."  Ha Ha Ha Ha.
It was a good day.  I am so proud of my husband.

Screen Free Week 2015

I always take lots of pictures during but don't always get around to blogging about Screen Free Week.  This year I will blog.  Screen Free Week this year was May 4-10, and here are some of the things we did:
Argued
Fought
I had a couple wisdom teeth taken out so I read a lot while recovering- finished 4 books since I wasn't watching movies.
Celebrated Holidays
Star Wars Day and International Respect for Chickens Day were both on May the 4th.  The kids and I ran around Provo Canyon and had blue milk with dinner.
Cinco de Mayo was on the 5th of May.
Our wedding anniversary fell during the week so we had our traditional anniversary meal which is food we ate while we were on our honeymoon.
Mother's Day was yesterday.  Jeremy made omelets and bacon and toast.  Yumm.  The kids gave me sweet notes they made at school and church.
Just as the Berenstain Bears enjoyed watching the stars come out instead of TV, we watched a nature show of our own- a beautiful thunder storm with lightning and rain and awesomeness.

We ate brownies and some yummy Hungarian food.
Lucky helped with baking.
Lucky helped with breakfast.
Lucky helped clean his tray off when he was done eating.
There was music
"I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee."

and games.
Fort building
Creativity

We had some good family time and I made the kids medals that said, "You're a 'smartie' for spending time with your family."
