As you know, we LOVE theme parties. Even when it's just our little family. Last year, Jr. had a superhero birthday party. This year, Nichole chose an Avatar: the Last Airbender theme for her birthday. She wanted Daddy to make an Aang balloon for her.
She also let me know she didn't want the party at home, but somewhere else. So we took the presents, the cake, and ice cream to the "kite flying park," even though it had been stormy recently and we could hear thunder in the distance. The pavilion was available so we would be able to stay dry.
We made sure we played Musical Elements first before the rain came since we were playing it out on the grass. Then we had cake and ice cream and Nichole opened presents as it rained in the background.
To go along with the theme, the kids practiced their water bending/rain bending at a point when it wasn't raining as heavily, but still raining.
Then we loaded most of Nichole's presents in her new backpack and took a break in the storm as an opportunity to head back to the car.
It was a good family day.
And here's a bonus:
How many matches does it take to light birthday candles outside on a windy day?
For us, it took six. And two adults working quickly.
Then Nichole blew them out really quickly as the wind was already helping her.
What a cute birthday! So strange to think it was a year ago you were up here...
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday! How nice that the Mother Nature was in on the theme of the party too. How nice of her. :)
