Our Garden

There's just something about harvesting from your own garden,
with or without critters.
There's a story behind this cantaloupe.

Way back in May when Jeremy was picking out plants from the greenhouse sale at the high school, he bought this plant that he realized later was not what he thought it was. It was a cantaloupe plant. Before my big birthday surprise, he didn't think it was going to survive. It was all wilted and just a sad looking thing. We made the choice to let it stay just to see what it would do. Imagine our surprise when it started thriving and later in the Summer started to actually produce a cute little melon. Unfortunately when we decided to finally harvest it, we found that the ants had gotten to it right before we did. Sigh. Oh well. It was still exciting to see it actually grow a melon, especially when Jeremy wasn't planning on it in the first place and then when we thought the plant wouldn't actually survive.

It was just so neat to see our garden actually produce things when we haven't had a successful garden in a long time.
